Caroline hesitated before answering. "He orchestrated a series of setbacks for Victor. I don't know all the details, but I know it was calculated. Your father wanted to ensure Victor couldn't recover, and in the process, he solidified his own position. He didn't see it as sabotage. To him, it was a necessary move to protect what he'd built."
I sank back onto the sofa, my head in my hands. "So he destroyed Victor's career and thought that was the end of it."
Caroline nodded. "Yes. But Victor didn't see it that way. He saw it as a betrayal, not just by your father but by the entire industry that allowed it to happen. He's been plotting his revenge ever since."
