I sat alone in the study. The photo and documents were spread out in front of me, mocking me with their revelations. I traced my fingers over my father's handwriting on one of the old letters Michael had found. It was a memo to his board, outlining his plans to secure the deal that had destroyed Victor.
Caroline's voice interrupted my thoughts from the doorway. "Isabella? Are you okay?"
Caroline stepped inside, her expression cautious. "You've been quiet since last night. I wanted to check on you."
I hesitated before gesturing to the documents. "I've been going through these. Trying to make sense of it all.
"I knew." Caroline said all of a sudden, her voice breaking through my uneasiness . Her admission cut through the air like a knife, leaving me stunned.
