His words struck a chord, and i felt a surge of determination. I leaned against him, finding solace in his presence. "You always know exactly what to say," i murmured.

 

"That's because I know you," he replied, pressing a kiss to my forehead, then to my lips softly and gently. "And I believe in you. In us."

Back at home, i sat in the nursery, my hands resting on my belly. The conversation with the defector had shaken me more than i cared to admit. Vanessa's reach was far greater than i had anticipated, and the risks we were taking felt heavier than ever.

 

Michael found me there, his expression softening as he saw the worry etched on my face. "Hey," he said, sitting beside me. "What's on your mind?"

 

I looked at him, my eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I'm scared, Michael. Scared for us, for the baby. What if we're in over our heads?"
