"I will," Caroline promised, her voice resolute. "I'll prove to you that you can trust me. Just tell me what to do."
I stood, the cool night air brushing against my skin. "For now, I need time to think. But if you're lying to me, Caroline, if you're still working with Vanessa…"
"I'm not," Caroline said firmly. "You have my word."
"Your word doesn't mean much right now," i replied, my chest tightened with a mix of anger and disbelief as i stood across from Caroline, her hands clenched into fists.
Michael made a sound which made me turn and realize that he was lingering near where we were, his sharp gaze locked on Caroline, as though trying to pierce through the web of secrets that now surrounded her.
"Can you please just tell me the truth, Caroline," i demanded, my voice trembling despite my attempt to remain composed. "Were you working with Vanessa?, are you still working for her?"
