Thomas remained quiet while sitting on the bed next to her. His eyes widened as he gazed at his mom, focused on the story. He focuses intently and catches every detail of the story his mother tells of her childhood.
I walked to the Parlor from my room. My room was in a corner, on the left side of the Parlor, while the dining room was on the right side of the Parlor.
As I got closer to my door, I heard voices and murmurs. The voice was low, and it sounded like my mom's. It seemed like she was having a conversation with my dad. I decided to open the door to approach my mom and ask her if she was the one who woke me from sleep at this unusual time.
As I opened the door, I gently walked out of my room, still in the corner passage to the Parlor. On the left lies the dining room where my mum and dad were. As I saw them, I stopped.
What I saw them doing was unusual. They had never done it before. At the table where they both sat, they kept a map, a very large map on the dining table. On the map, the Kept candle on the four-squared edge of the map.
At the center of the map, lies a pendant, a pendant in the form of a bird well shaped. The pendant has a gold color on its middle and back sides. The edge of the pendant has diamonds all around it, all around the edge of the wings of the bird, the month, and legs. The edge has been designed with diamonds.
I could see it clearly from where I was because of the way it shone. My mum holds a book, a book that looks old, designed with ancient technology. In it has some ancient drawings and write-ups.
My mum tries to read the book, her finger pointing at the text of the book as she reads gradually. I was at the corner to the entrance of my room that leads to the Parlor, when I saw all of this.
Fear stroked through my spine as I gazed at them. The pendant was weird, the eye of the bed tended to glow and blink when I looked at it. I was scared and frozen in thought, to go and approach them, or I should stay still and watch what they were doing. by the way, I want to be an adventurer like them. I want to learn. So this could be a clue to how to start, I need to let fear go off me.
My mum reads the book gradually while my dad is beside her, he holds a lamp in his hands and shines it on the book for my mum to read the text and interpret it.
While she continued to read, the lamp in my dad's hands and the candle at the far corner began to blink, creating a strange atmosphere. I couldn't comprehend her words as they weren't in English, but I remained silent, feeling fear creeping in. I observed them closely, curious to see what would unfold.
She looks at my dad, and looks at the pendant on the desk, at the top of the map that was placed on the desk in the dining room. She murmured some words to my dad which I couldn't hear clearly.
The last word I heard that came out of her mouth was "Should I do it?" She said this while touching the pendant, touching the head of the bird.
My dad looked at her and nodded his head in agreement as she asked. Yes, we should. He replied to her. I could hear his replies. All this while, they were not aware that I was watching everything, everything they were doing.
She pulled her hands, which she placed in the pendant, and fixed her gaze on the book. And then she continued reading again, some words that I couldn't understand. But this time she was faster in reading it. As she reads each word, the light in the candle keeps flickering, assive it was been interrupted by wind.
I started hearing voices, from the direction where I suspected the voice was coming from my mother's mouth, but it sounded like a man's voice combined with a child's voice and her voice. The voices mixed as she continued reading the words from the book. Suddenly the pendant began shaking on the desk where it had been placed. And then, a creature burst out from the pendant. A creature in the form of a bird. Emitting Golding light from its body.
My dad looked at the bird at the front, standing at the dining room desk. And he said, so this is real.
Yes, it is, my mum replied. So the legends are true. She said as she smiled at the Golden shining bird at their front while holding the book. This bird looks like a phoenix, she said.
You summoned me, a sound emitted from the bird's mouth, Suddenly while looking at my both parents. I was shocked, fear stroked through my spine and I couldn't hold it, the fear was too much, so I shouted out loud, how could the creature talk. My voice echoed from where I was to the Parlor where both my parents were. Shocking both my parents. All this while, when I was reading all the sorts of books, I came across many books that talked about magical creatures, a lot of them, but I never believed that they existed. By the way, it's just a book.
As I saw the bird creature, my entire impression changed, and my passion for an adventurer, to explore things and know everything to their fullest became more stronger. I suddenly believed that all that I was reading in books was real and the exit in real life.
My dad turned and looked at me. The bird turned his head as well. And my mum too. My mum murmured to my dad. Her voice was not clear, but I could hear "Take her to her room," she said to my dad.
My dad quickly walked towards me and grabbed my hands, he knelt, got onto the ground, and grabbed my hands. He said, listen dear, you don't have to worry yourself Sabrina, you are safe. Come let's get back to your room.
My dad gently held me by the waist and raised me, holding me in his arms as he walked back to my room. I looked at the bird as my dad walked forward and the bird looked back at me. Its eyes glowed like fire, the eyes changing different colors, mixing with red, blue, and green.
My mum didn't make an inch. She stood still holding the book.
When we got to my room, my dad gently dropped me on my bed and laid me back on it. He looked at my eyes and sang my favorite bedtime song. That song always holds the key to my comfort. Anytime it is sung to me, I fall asleep almost immediately. I kept thinking about the mysterious creature I saw. But the song that was sung by my dad to me suppressed everything. And then I slept.
