Chereads / Nine Dao Imperial Sword Art / Chapter 4 - Jian Bu

Chapter 4 - Jian Bu

Jian Bu is a youth shrouded in mystery, what he shows on the outside is but what he wants others to see. Aside from his quadruple master-rank subsidiary skills, he also has powerful techniques like 'Universe in a Sleeve', which every Alchemist would salivate over, as this is a technique that holds the secret of Space and can take a huge burden off an alchemist's chest by being able to control a higher quantity of ingredients with less effort. His surface-level techniques are as follows: for offensive methods, he has the Jian Clan's famous Tiger Fist and the Jian Clan Dao Sword Art; for movement methods, he has the Jian Clan Tiger Steps; and for defensive methods, he has the Jian Clan's Tiger Body. His cultivation technique is the Jian Clan's Nine Revolutions Mantra technique, which is exclusive only to the clan head or clan young master. This is what he shows on the surface to not attract attention, but in reality, Jian Bu has already gained his powerful trump cards. For example, he has more than one offensive method, one of them being the Azure Dragon Roar, which is able to confuse enemies and cause their blood to flow in reverse. Using this method will allow Jian Bu to quickly eliminate his enemies by the time they recover. This technique does have its downside in that he can only use it against people with similar cultivation levels or that are mentally exhausted, and using it more than once per day will leave the user in a weakened state. But being in a weakened state has already been taken into consideration by Jian Bu, that's why he created his own artifact, a damage substitution amulet. This amulet can be used as a substitution for the drawback of a technique. Unfortunately, this is a limited-item and it will break after being used 10 times, but what is 10 times in a life-and-death battle? This is a powerful trump card, unfortunately, the items used to craft it were quite expensive, and Jian Bu is currently empty on resources, so he will have to be careful not to waste it as he only has 4 uses left. The Azure Dragon Roar is a Black Rank Technique, unfortunately, Jian Bu has an incomplete version. If he found the rest of it, the technique would become much stronger. Jian Bu also has a superior movement art. The Jian Tiger Steps is not great as it's only a Yellow Rank movement technique, that's why he instead uses the Silent Night Steps. This technique is not only middle-grade Black Rank but is also a complete technique, which is why he can use it to its fullest potential. It has the special characteristic of being able to completely hide the user in the presence of darkness and is able to use darkness as a weapon to confuse enemies. Unfortunately, this technique downgrades to peak Yellow Rank during the time of the day, but it's still a powerful trump card nevertheless. The Jian Tiger Fist is a powerful middle-grade Yellow Rank technique. The Jian Clan Tiger Body is only a Yellow Rank technique and has very hard requirements to advance. The Jian Clan Dao Sword Art is actually a very powerful peak Yellow Rank technique, unfortunately, he only has the first three moves, Sword Parry, Sword Dance, & Sword Thrust. If he had the other nine forms, he would have another peak Black Rank technique. His Nine Revolutions Mantra is an Earth Grade technique originally, but it has been modified for the branch clans and it can only be considered a peak Black-Rank technique. If you want the full version, you have to enter the main clan. Still, this mantra allows the user to store way more Qi than normal while also having a fast cultivation speed under normal conditions. This technique can be used until Foundation Establishment. Jian Bu does not have a superior cultivation technique than this, but he is not dissatisfied with it as it has a strong foundation-building effect. These are his cultivation/combat-related techniques. Universe in a Sleeve is actually an Earth Rank alchemy technique given to him by his mother, unfortunately, it has no combat use. He also has one technique for every subsidiary skill: talisman, formation, forging. For Talismans, he has his Qilin-Feather brush, which is also an Earth Rank tool, and while it has no offensive methods, talismans in of themselves are an offensive method. Unfortunately, Talismans are extremely expensive to make and without financial backing, a Talisman Master is severely weakened, thus Jian Bu has put Talismans in the back of his mind. For formations, Jian Bu has a Peak Black Rank formation inheritance, thus he can create a formation practically out of nothing. The formations path is also expensive, but since formation experts don't throw formations around like talisman masters, they have an easier time. The formation and talismans path is very similar, most talisman masters are also formation masters and vice-versa. Talismans have runes written on them which work as small formations, while formations use heaven and earth to create formations. Talismans require the blood of powerful beasts and crushed-up minerals turned to dust and then into paint, which is why they are so expensive. Formations can use anything in their surroundings, heaven and earth is their playground. Even so, Talisman Masters are stronger than Formation Masters if they have financial backing. Finally, for his forging inheritance, Jian Bu naturally has his many methods and recipes just like his other subsidiary paths, but he also has a legendary peak Earth-Rank Mithril Hammer. This is Jian Bu's most prized possession. It guarantees success to any artifact created below Earth rank and even gives a 30% chance of success to Earth rank artifacts. Not only that, but it can also be used to improve weapons to their peak state. While Jian Bu has all these powerful techniques and may seem invincible in the same cultivation rank, he can at most be considered average when compared to the average younger generation member of a super-clan. In fact, some members of the younger generation are already grandmasters in their respective paths and have way stronger methods including Soul Nurturing and Protection methods. This is actually Jian Bu's greatest weakness, his Soul. He has no way to train it at the moment and it could be easily targeted for attacks. Luckily, Jian Bu is quite strong, as his mother fed him Soul-Nurturing pills when teaching him Alchemy. You need a powerful soul to become an alchemist as your mind needs to focus on many things at once.
