Lena stumbled through the darkness, Ryker's grip on her wrist guiding her through the winding village paths. The moon cast eerie shadows on the ground, making it seem as though they were being stalked by unseen predators.
As they walked, the silence between them grew thicker, until Lena couldn't bear it anymore. "Ryker, what's going on?" she demanded, trying to keep her voice steady. "What just happened back there?"
Ryker's gaze flicked toward her, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of warning and curiosity. "You saw what happened, Lena," he said, his voice low and even. "I transformed. I fought off that... thing."
Lena's mind reeled as she tried to process what she'd witnessed. "You're a... a werewolf?" she stammered.
Ryker's expression turned grim. "I am what I am, Lena. And I'm not the only one. There are others like me, hiding in plain sight."
As they approached the village outskirts, Ryker led Lena toward a dense thicket of trees. The air grew thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves.
"Where are we going?" Lena asked, her heart pounding in her chest.
Ryker's gaze locked onto hers, his eyes burning with an inner intensity. "Someplace safe," he said. "Somewhere we can talk without being overheard."
As they pushed through the underbrush, Lena stumbled into a small clearing. In the center of the clearing stood an ancient, gnarled tree, its branches twisted and tangled in a way that seemed almost... magical.
Ryker released Lena's wrist, his eyes never leaving hers. "Welcome to my sanctuary," he said, his voice low and mysterious. "Here, we can speak freely."
Lena's heart still racing, she took a deep breath and stepped forward, her eyes locked on Ryker's. "I'm listening," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ryker's gaze seemed to bore into her very soul. "Lena, I have a secret to share with you," he said, his voice dripping with an air of mystery. "A secret that could change everything."
As Lena's eyes locked onto Ryker's, she felt a shiver run down her spine. What secret could Ryker possibly share that would change everything?
And was she ready to face the truth?
Was she actually ready for it
