Chapter 88: Rallying the Allies
The sun dipped low in the sky, casting long shadows across the courtyard of Eternity Academy as Yun-ho, Nova, and Ethan gathered in front of the massive stone steps leading to the main building. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation, a stark contrast to the underlying tension that gripped their hearts.
"We need to gather support," Yun-ho declared, his voice steady but laced with urgency. "The threat of the Heart of Darkness is real, and we can't face it alone."
Nova nodded, her emerald eyes glinting with determination. "But we have to be careful. Not everyone will be willing to join our cause. We need to approach this strategically."
Ethan, ever the optimistic one, chimed in, "Let's start by reaching out to the upperclassmen. They have experience and might have dealt with similar threats before."
With a plan in mind, the trio set off toward the senior dormitories. The older students were known for their formidable skills, but also their skepticism toward first-years. As they approached the first group—a cluster of third-year contractors gathered near a fountain—Yun-ho felt a wave of nerves wash over him.
"Hey, are you guys busy?" Ethan called out, forcing a smile. The group turned, and a few looked intrigued, while others maintained their distance, arms crossed.
One of the third-years, a tall girl with long silver hair and an air of confidence, stepped forward. "What do you want, first-years?"
Yun-ho took a deep breath. "We need your help. A powerful darkness is threatening the academy and beyond. We believe that by working together, we can protect our home."
The girl raised an eyebrow. "And what makes you think we should help you? You're just kids."
Nova stepped forward, her voice steady. "We may be first-years, but we've faced significant challenges already. If we don't act now, there may not be a future for any of us."
A murmur rippled through the group, some nodding while others remained skeptical. The silver-haired girl looked thoughtful. "I'll admit, I've heard whispers about a dark presence. But without proof, why should we risk our lives for you?"
Yun-ho felt frustration bubble up but kept his tone even. "Because together, we stand a chance. We're gathering everyone who believes in this cause. Will you join us?"
The girl glanced around, gauging the reactions of her peers. "Alright, we'll hear you out. But if you waste our time, don't expect a second chance."
With a small victory, they moved to the next group. Over the course of the afternoon, Yun-ho, Nova, and Ethan faced both acceptance and rejection. Some upperclassmen were eager to join, while others were too fearful of the unknown.
Later, as they sat in a quiet corner of the academy, Yun-ho reflected on the day. "We made progress, but we still have a long way to go."
Nova placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "It's a start. We can't let setbacks deter us."
Ethan smiled, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "With enough allies, we can overcome anything."
As they made their way back to their dorms, the trio felt a mix of determination and trepidation. The fight against the darkness was just beginning, and with each ally they gathered, the weight of their mission felt just a little bit lighter.
