Chereads / Hunt the mate / Chapter 7 - Tick-Tick 7

Chapter 7 - Tick-Tick 7

THE FOX AND EAGLE"Oh, he did expect this from us," Odette whispers to Liliane who agrees in the dark. "Newt's the clever one to create an innocent image of him yet blew it up just for a hunt.""I wonder why he joined the game after building the perfect guide's image in the work place?""He is weird," Odette frowns which Liliane retorts under her breath, "In an agitating way."A suffering of covetousness hovered Odette's heart who hesitantly inquires, "You like him?""I never did."But never can turn into now or later.Odette glanced at the calm and self-composed Newt and paralleled herself to him. Why he is perfect? She became his partner in the hunt to find shortcomings but a person with no hues in his demeanor, scared her with further qualms and future possibilities. His flawless personality never raised any doubts at him but Odette was well aware that a person like him, always holds great depth of secrets. The more excellence he displayed; the more riddles rosed up.Newt was more than he looked at the surface. All the snags commenced by Odette for him to lose his temper, he exceeded her thinking capability and curved the situation in his favor. He never questioned Odette who too never leaved an opportunity to see him fall but failed miserably while the victim gained more approval and affections of others as he revealed his veiled fortes to avoid the obstacles without any problem. This once, out of blue, Newt let out his emotions during the hunt."Why are you doing this, Odette." Newt asked in a tone as if he already knew the answer. He always comprehend everyone's secret but no one saw his. Not even Grey, his best friend."Pardon?" Odette played dumb and observed her surrounding to guess the clue room. "I don't get your question."Newt didn't explain and nodded wordlessly with understanding. After a second he reassured, "I don't like her. I never did. You also know she feels the same then why the envy for something that will never happen."Odette didn't await this but replied with doubt, "Will you marry her after this fall." Newt didn't reply. He never does to this question. It felt like, he didn't know what will he do avoid the marriage. The courting period was the last excuse he came up with but now there were no room for any delay. Normal mates marries within a year or two when they find their supposed life partners during adulthood but it's been since birth, people were aware of their fate together. After they both became grown-ups, adults anticipated their wedding but no one knew, the supposed groom and bride share no feelings.Neither love nor hate. If they were to wed, the wedding will be a funeral with cake."I think you are quite mistaken sir," Newt's confident voice breaks the tense atmosphere as the fox faced an eagle with no remorse for his and his comrade's action as if they did nothing wrong to receive hatred. "We also received an anonymous call from someone, informing us about a little trespasser."All eyes fell on a little someone who remained hanging as his sister, Riruru, was still clutching down his cloths making him float in air while spanking him in front of others. "Why are you looking at me?" Cried Hael with an embarrassed expression, covering his lower back part."We are explaining things that consults you and us." Liliane answers, silently glaring at Hael to remain shut or his words will have consequences. Hael gulps and obeys the instructions to save his legs. Crippled legs were now in his 'To avoid List'."Why the unidentified called you all five, specifically?" Chief inquires, mistrust lingering in his conscious."The anonymous called me only," Newt lied. "We all were together in MaryAnn's Cafe. You can ask her." Another lie."I will later but why you, Newt?""I'm the guide, sir. I suppose they were not pulling out a joke but helping us. Maybe they ought to inform the staff because the trespasser was a little child. Informing you and me would be the perfect decision.""Little, my ass-" Hael scorned but received a smack from Riruru who apologized for the whole situation while hawking at her impolite brother. "I'm thankful for taking care of this guy and not calling police as my mother would've gotten worried and surely would've started an uproar. I hope this incident would remain here and cease forever.""We would love to share a secret, ma'am. Rest a sure and please take care of your sibling.""I'll suggest a teacher who will differentiate reality and imagination for him," Liliane mocks, on which Hael glares."I suppose he blurt out his witch tale in front of you. Don't mind his arrogance. He just watched too much Disney and probably read restricted books in my absence.""Why are you accusing me all-"A loud bang twelve times rang around the area, notifying the start of another day."The clock tower is excessive. It will kill us someday with its banging. Why-"A sudden strong gale halt the conversation as the whole treasure room turned upside down. All the artifacts floored down, some shattered while others received dents upon the fall. The clattering of glass window allowed a temporary tempest to enter which created a turmoil before the Chief closed the access of the strong winds and observed the room with a sigh."It's a bad sign to have such weather during midnight," Hael worries for which Mysty answers. "Consider it a superstition.""How can we. The last time it happened, a civil war broke out between wolves and vampires-""Hael. How many times should I remind you-"Again, a disturbance worried the present souls. A clunking sound came from the other side which opened the orange pathway."Something must have fell down because of wind-"A slight roar and footsteps contradicted the surety as Chief took the lead. "Intruders seemed to love my territory. Stay with me if you treasure life."Even the Chief was aware that the intruders this time were not some pranksters or little kid as the footsteps were heavy carried with a slight growl which marked them as something horrible."Is that an animal?" Hael murmurs while getting a grip of Riruru's cloths. Liliane took him from his little sister as the circumstances might appear to turn out a fight or flight and Riruru was a teenager, capable of only handling herself. Riruru nods at Liliane as if she understood her unvoiced gaze while Hael's mind was a mess with unanswered queries."Listen," the Chief ordered with minute worry masking his superior face. "We don't know what we are facing. Don't dare to leave the group and stick together behind me. Protect the kids, Newt. Mysty listen for danger. Grey give me a hand when necessary. Odette don't show yourself to the intruders, no matter what happens. And Liliane don't lose calm like before."Even if the Chief hadn't mentioned the assigned position everyone knew what to do as they were aware of their capabilities of survival. The incident which occurred a year ago, when Newt hadn't joined the team yet, was similar to this. Though the museum's whole staff was present, only Chief ordered these guys to give him a hand to deal with the runaway predators. That incident forced Chief to razor his ash brown hairs as the predators gashed his head, pretty badly and leaved quite an impression on his handsome appearance. The group was with Chief in fore, Grey a foot behind covering Odette from front who was surrounded by Newt and Mysty from sides, followed by Riruru and Liliane carrying Hael.Hael again inquires, "What is it?""It's not human," Mysty answers as her sharp ears detects a sound. "Neither an animal nor a predator.""What's the difference?""Behavior."Chief growls commanding to halt their questions and scoffs, "I know you all lied to me. And I can't understand why can't I fire you all for your previous pranks and always why do I have to give in.""You won't like to hear this Blair but you are pretty submissive.""Kid. Mind your tongue, it's Chief Loid.""I can't pronounce. I'll stick to Blair.""As long as Blair don't turn into Bald, I'm fine with this gender revolting name."Liliane taunts, "Now who is talking.""Shut up, Liliane. If not our relationship as uncle and niece, I would've fired you.""How terrifying. How can my aunt's mate can be an eagle.""It happens in every century for at least once."Then why not me. I would've been fine to marry someone else from different lineage.Liliane heaves a sigh with a sudden thought while Odette questioned the same, 'If this was the case with Liliane, we might've had a chance'.Little did they both knew; a certain mated fox was thinking the same. The three gave up finally. Let the wish of deity be fulfilled this fall. It's not like something can prevent destiny.
