Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Unexpected Ally

Damian's POV

HA HA HA HA HA HA!

The dwarf's laughter echoed through the cavernous hall.

With the way he laughed, I swore if I checked his pants, he would've wet himself by now.

His beady eyes glistened with a mix of fury and amusement as if he couldn't quite believe what the lady had just said.

The lady had just woven through my brain and memories, revealing everything in my mind before declaring -

"He came to steal me"

"What!?" I didn't even know this lady, how did i come to steal her..or ..is ..she?

OMG!...Is she the sorceress?

"What?!" The dwarf's mirth abruptly stopped, his face twisting with rage. His yellowed teeth ground together, and his thick, stubby fingers curled into fists. "He wants what?"

I wanted to scream.

My heart raced, hammering against my ribcage as panic crept into my veins.

We glanced at the lady that stood beside the ugly dwarf, her face stiff like a block of ice.

"No..No… I don't even.." I stammered, still trying to lie my way out of this mess. "I'm not—"

But before I could finish, the dwarf snarled, his face flushing a dangerous red. He snapped his fingers, and the ugly creatures that served him—a mix of trolls, imps, and beasts—rushed forward, seizing us roughly.

"To the dungeons with him!" the dwarf barked, still fuming. "No one dares to steal from Grimtooth!"

I tried to struggle, but it was futile. These ugly guards were surprisingly strong despite looking so frail.

The guards clamped heavy gold chains around my wrists as I was dragged from the hall, down into the damp, foul-smelling depths of the dwarf's lair.

My heart sank as the iron doors slammed shut behind me.

The air in the dungeon was thick with the stench of decay and mildew. Water dripped steadily from somewhere above, creating a slow, torturous rhythm that matched the dull throb in my head.

I could barely see anything in the dim light, just the faint outlines of my hands and legs

Later that night, amidst the deplorable circumstances. Sleep was impossible.

A noise broke through the silence.

It was faint, like a soft whisper of wind, but enough to make me snap to attention.

"Uhn.."

I tried to listen, my muscles tensed from panic.

There it was again—a soft thud of something heavy hitting the ground. Then Footsteps.

I leaned closely to the bars, squinting into the darkness.

Someone was coming.

The dungeon door slammed open. The icy cold lady stepped in, her form was bathed in the faint glow of moonlight that filtered through a crack in the ceiling.

"What are you doing here?" I was surprised. Did the Dwarf send her here to execute me already?

She didn't answer at first, her pale eyes locking onto mine. Her gaze was intense, but there was a flicker of something I hadn't seen before—regret? Compassion? I couldn't tell.

"I'm getting you out,"she said quietly.

For three seconds I was confused.

'Why?" I did not know when the word slipped out of my mouth.

"I mean, what is in it for you?" I quickly chipped in.

"I have many reasons" She stared looking at me again "But first, I need to get you out of here"

"Who are you?" I asked.

"That's not important now!" she retorted.

"Are you the sorceress?" I asked again.

The icy lady had the keys to the chains in her hands and walked up to me releasing me from the golden chains.

"Fine!" I decided to corporate with her "What do I do?, your dwarf master can come out anytime"

"Yes"

She started, I listened closely to what she wanted to say.

"Grimtooth's strength is from Gold, that's why he is surrounded by gold. However, if you can block the gold from him, he would wrinkle away and you can easily defeat him"

"How would I do that? This cave is literally covered in gold. It is impossible to do that without alerting him" I interjected.

"There is a fountain that produces gold dust. Once it is blocked, this whole cave shuts down. You just have to make sure that you escape the cave before it closes in" she informed me.

"I would help outside by distracting and fighting off grimtooth's guards"

"Alright, do you have an idea where this fountain might be located?" I asked.

"Not really…No. That's the only information I have. And you have to act quickly.

I followed the lady out of the dungeon.

As I rushed out, I saw guards laying on the floor knocked out. But there was no time to check up on them.

Quickly I turned to pick up my sword that was laid in a corner by a heap of gold coins.

The icy lady headed outside to fight the guards, while I went further into the cave to search for the gold dust fountain.
