Chapter 14 - Three Drops

The moment Damon's words hung in the air, a dark, unshakable promise, they froze everything around us. "I will hurt and kill anyone who tries to harm you, Nikolai," he murmured, each syllable soaked in menace. "Even if it's our unborn pup."

The room turned cold, the walls suffocating and pressing in as I tried to process what he had just said.

It was as if I had fallen into a nightmare, every instinct telling me to run, to scream, to do anything to escape, but the chain around my ankle held fast—a physical reminder that there was nowhere to go.

For a long moment, I couldn't find my voice, as if it had been stolen along with my trust in him.

Finally, I whispered, my voice trembling, "Please, tell me you aren't the reason why I lost all of our pups." My mind raced, clinging to any thread of hope that what he'd said was just some horrible misunderstanding.

I needed him to say no, to tell me that I'd misheard.
