Chapter 1: Midnight Plans

It was a typical Friday night in Edinburgh. The group of friends—Molly, Jackson, Kelly, Amy, and Michael—were lounging at The Enigma, their favorite local café in the Old Town. The warm glow of the café contrasted with the chilly October air outside. They often met here after long weeks, swapping stories and making plans for their next adventure.

Molly leaned back in his chair, a mischievous smile on his face. "So, what's the plan tonight? I'm not up for another boring movie marathon."

Amy, who was sipping her hot chocolate, rolled her eyes. "What? Are we supposed to chase ghosts again? Don't you ever get tired of these weird ideas?"

"You know Molly," Kelly said with a smirk. "Always looking for a thrill."

"I'm just saying," Molly shrugged, "this city has so much more to offer. Why settle for a dull night in?"

Jackson, ever the realist, leaned forward. "What do you have in mind? I'm not walking through another graveyard like last time."

Molly's eyes gleamed. "Forget graveyards. I've got something even better. The underground vaults."

The table went silent for a moment. Edinburgh's vaults were legendary, with countless ghost stories swirling around them. Some claimed to have heard voices in the darkness, others swore they saw shadows moving just out of sight.

Michael raised an eyebrow. "The vaults? Are you crazy? They're closed off at night."

Molly waved him off. "Closed to the public. Not to us."

"And how exactly do you plan on getting in?" Kelly asked, crossing her arms.

"I've got my ways," Molly said mysteriously, glancing out the window. "Come on, it'll be fun. We explore a bit, prove all those ghost stories are nonsense, and maybe find something interesting."

Amy shivered, not from the cold, but from the thought of the vaults. "I don't know… It sounds kind of dangerous. What if we get caught?"

"Relax," Jackson said, nudging her playfully. "We'll be in and out before anyone notices. Besides, you don't really believe in all that haunted stuff, do you?"

"No," Amy replied quickly. "Of course not. I just don't want to end up in some creepy tunnel with rats."

Molly grinned, sensing the group slowly warming up to the idea. "Alright, it's settled then. Meet me by the Royal Mile in an hour. Let's see what the night has in store."
