After Bellossom completed her evolution, Sato, in a great mood, quickly recalled all his Pokémon except for Zubat. Following Zubat's lead, he managed to avoid people and eventually climbed over a wall to exit the city park.
The unusual phenomenon caused by Bellossom's evolution had attracted the attention of a few early morning joggers in the park. Fortunately, Sato had chosen a secluded spot for the evolution, and the phenomenon lasted only a short while, preventing people from coming over.
With his PokeBlocks restocked and Gloom successfully evolving into Bellossom, Sato no longer had a reason to stay in Viridian City. He hailed a taxi and headed towards the Viridian City bus station.
It was now 10:10 AM, and the bus from Viridian City to Saffron City was scheduled to leave in just under an hour. Sato needed to hurry to the station. Although the old man had told him that this bus typically had few passengers, Sato still thought it best to arrive early and buy a ticket.
Not long after Sato had left in the taxi, Officer Jenny arrived at the city park, led by her trusty Growlithe. She was searching for Sato.
Officer Jenny had not received official approval for this search and was acting on her own. Despite the slow progress, her connections had allowed her to gather information on Sato's whereabouts. She had tracked him to the park using Growlithe's keen sense of smell.
However, she had arrived too late. When Jenny and Growlithe reached the grove where Sato and his Pokémon had been, the place was already empty, and the scent trail had vanished. (Bellossom's enchanting floral scent had covered Sato's scent.)
"Growlithe, are you sure his scent disappeared here?" Officer Jenny asked, puzzled, as she looked at her loyal partner.
"Woof!" Growlithe nodded in response but seemed uncomfortable, as the strong floral scent had overwhelmed his nose, making him sneeze repeatedly.
Seeing her partner in distress, Officer Jenny returned him to his PokéBall. With Growlithe's sense of smell rendered useless, she had lost her only means of tracking Sato. Reluctantly, she decided to give up the search.
"Sigh... What a shame. I just hope this trainer doesn't stray down the wrong path," Officer Jenny thought to herself. She turned her patrol car around and headed back to the police station. She had already been away from her post for some time, and any further delay would be hard to explain to her superiors.
Little did Sato know, Gloom's evolution had inadvertently helped him avoid a major problem.
Shortly after Officer Jenny left the grove, a figure emerged from the shadows of the trees. It was Sophia, dressed in a white gown, accompanied by a Gengar.
"Hmph, I was planning to teach you a lesson today, but you got lucky bitch," Sophia muttered coldly, watching Officer Jenny disappear from view. She took a deep breath of the lingering floral scent, and the cold expression on her face softened slightly.
Sophia then took out a PokéBall and released the Pokémon inside.
In the next moment, a Pidgeot equipped with a saddle appeared before her. After Gengar disappeared back into her shadow, Sophia quickly mounted Pidgeot, and they soared into the sky.
At 10:35 AM, after a brief traffic delay, Sato finally arrived at the Viridian City bus station. He successfully purchased a ticket for the bus heading to Saffron City and was now waiting in a restaurant inside the station for the bus to depart.
Sato had inquired about the journey from the ticket agent. The trip would be long; if the bus departed at noon, it would likely arrive at Saffron City's bus station around 9 or 10 PM.
With that in mind, Sato thought it best to prepare himself before boarding. Since the bus route would pass through several wild Pokémon habitats, even though they were safe areas, passengers were not allowed to disembark to avoid any potential danger.
With the confirmed information in hand, Sato naturally made sure to prepare well for his journey, so he was in the restaurant filling up both his and his Pokémon's stomachs.
The bus station was a bustling place, filled with people from all over, and with that came potential trouble. Since Sato had a bit of extra money, he decided to spend a little more and rented a private dining room to avoid unnecessary issues.
Despite these precautions, Sato and his Pokémon were still approached by two unexpected guests. To his surprise, these guests were rather important, and one of them shocked him even more than the other.
The first guest was a well-built young man in a suit named Genichi Shibata, one of Ichiro's most trusted subordinates. He had come to carry out a task assigned by his boss.
Sato recognized Shibata right away. He had seen him the night before as one of Ichiro's followers, and so when Shibata walked into the room, led by a server, Sato's expression turned sour.
Growlithe, holding a bit of a grudge from the previous night, bared his teeth and barked aggressively at Shibata.
However, to Sato's surprise, Shibata no longer had the stern, unfriendly demeanor from the night before. He had removed his dark sunglasses, revealing small, squinting eyes, and he now wore a nervous, apologetic smile.
Seeing that Shibata didn't seem to be here to cause trouble and had come alone, Sato patted Growlithe's head to calm him down, then invited Shibata to sit.
After some conversation, Sato understood the reason for Shibata's visit. In short, Ichiro had felt uneasy and sent Shibata to offer an apology and to make amends.
The compensation Shibata offered was quite sincere. He presented Sato with a League silver card containing 5 million PokéDollars, some high-quality Pokémon food that Fire-type Pokémon love, and a rare Fire Stone.
This Fire Stone wasn't just any ordinary one. Although it didn't compare to the premium Sun Stone Wallace had given Sato, it was still a mid-tier Fire Stone of excellent quality.
"I'll accept these gifts. Go back and tell Mr. Ichiro that as far as I'm concerned, this matter never happened. From now on, we're friends," Sato said with a smile after understanding the situation and accepting the items.
Honestly, Sato had taken note of the rich kid's attempt to buy his Growlithe by shoving money at his face the previous night and had been irritated by it. However, with his current strength and the fact that Viridian City was Ichiro's territory, Sato knew he had to bide his time and let it go for now.
He had originally planned to deal with Ichiro Yamaguchi in the future once he grew stronger, especially if he ever passed through Viridian City again. But to his surprise, Ichiro was quick to back down, even sending someone to apologize right after Sato took care of the Wild Wolf Gang. It turned out the rich kid wasn't as bold as Sato had thought, and he knew how to handle situations diplomatically.
With this unexpected resolution, Sato no longer felt the need to take any action. It was always better to have one less enemy and one more ally.
After Sato gave his clear approval, Shibata's face lit up with a bright smile, and he quickly took his leave.
However, not even a minute after Shibata left, the door was knocked on again, and this time it was violently flung open before Sato could respond.
When Sato saw the impolite guest, he immediately stopped his four Pokémon, who were preparing to attack, and looked at the person standing in the doorway with a serious expression.
