As Sato stared at the data on Charmeleon, a deep envy flickered in his eyes. The fact that it inherited four powerful Dragon-type moves showed just how immense its potential was.
Moreover, Alice was clearly no spoiled rich kid; she had a strong mental fortitude and had trained Charmeleon exceptionally well, giving it high battle competence. It wasn't hard to imagine that, given time, this girl would undoubtedly become a formidable League Trainer.
Of course, this was not the time for such thoughts. She was his opponent, and he had to find a way to defeat her.
Following Sato's command, Golbat flapped its wings slightly and maneuvered to dodge Charmeleon's Dragon Rush. In the same motion, it unleashed a high-frequency Supersonic from its mouth.
Suspended in midair, Charmeleon had no leverage to evade the attack and ended up taking the Supersonic head-on, falling into a state of confusion as its eyes turned a blood-red hue.
"Hmph, just a petty trick. Wake up, Charmeleon! Defeat that weak Pokémon with maximum power—use Dragon Pulse!"
Seeing Charmeleon in a state of confusion, Alice's expression turned serious. She quickly pulled out a shimmering silver glass bell and gently shook it in her hand.
In an instant, a calming sound resonated from the bell, and hearing this sound, Charmeleon's blood-red glare began to fade, clarity returning to its eyes.
Now alert, Charmeleon moved swiftly and agilely, sidestepping the several Shadow Balls released by Golbat. As it dodged, blue flames flickered from its mouth, and the fire at its tail shifted from orange to blue.
Once charged, Charmeleon opened its mouth, releasing a gigantic energy dragon enveloped in blue flames, which lunged toward Golbat in the air with fierce claws.
The dragon, cloaked in blue flames, exuded an overwhelming aura, causing the temperature in the vicinity to surge, making everyone nearby feel like they were standing in a furnace.
"Show your true power after evolution, Golbat! Air Cutter, all six combined!"
Seeing Charmeleon unleash such a powerful Dragon Pulse, Sato felt a heavy weight in his chest. He immediately decided to let Golbat use all its strength and showcase its evolution.
At Sato's command, Golbat was enveloped in a layer of pure Flying-type energy. Its broad wings suddenly flapped forward, summoning a near-level 9 gale, while twelve wide blades of wind flew out in a fan shape.
However, as the wind blades formed, a blue light glimmered in Golbat's eyes. Six of the blades darted out from the fan formation and quickly fused together, creating a single massive wind blade that was five almost meters long.
The transition from Golbat launching Air Cutter to merging the six wind blades was seamless and fluid. The enormous blade, imbued with an air-splitting aura, sliced directly toward the approaching blue flame dragon.
Indeed, since Zubat had evolved into Golbat, its power had received a comprehensive boost, rapidly advancing in a short time. This included its proficiency with its skills.
Moreover, through the skill training earlier that afternoon, Sato discovered that Golbat not only increased the number of wind blades released with Air Cutter to twelve but could also adeptly control six of them.
What surprised Sato the most was that Golbat had successfully merged the six wind blades into a single powerful finishing move.
Originally, Sato planned to have Golbat refine this skill further to enhance its mastery, intending to use it as a trump card in an intense Pokémon battle.
However, Alice's Charmeleon was so powerful that it unleashed that terrifying Dragon Pulse, forcing Sato to have Golbat use its strongest move to counter.
"What!!! A mere weak Pokémon has been trained to this level by this person?"
Alice's face, tousled by the strong winds, revealed shock as she stared incredulously at Golbat, her cherry lips parted in disbelief.
The near-level 9 winds unleashed a formidable force, causing many nearby to squint their eyes against the gusts. As the energy dragon faced the oncoming storm, its unanchored blue flames were instantly extinguished, diminishing its intimidating presence.
Next, Charmeleon's Dragon Pulse collided with Golbat's Air Cutter, but the ensuing struggle was not as many spectators had anticipated.
To the astonishment of the crowd, the energy dragon was cleaved in two within a heartbeat by the massive wind blade, which then struck Charmeleon before it could evade.
With a resounding "Boom!!" an explosion erupted, engulfing the area in a cloud of black smoke.
However, a gust of wind blew through, clearing the smoke almost instantly. The onlookers could now see the outcome of the sudden battle.
Lying unconscious on the ravaged ground, Charmeleon was bruised and battered. Behind it, a huge dent marred the wall, and a deep crack appeared on the ground.
There was no doubt that Charmeleon had been defeated after taking Golbat's powerful Air Cutter head-on.
"How is this possible? My ace Charmeleon was defeated by a mere weak Pokémon?! I actually lost to a commoner!"
Alice stared in disbelief as she saw Charmeleon bested by Sato's Golbat. Despite her fury, she quickly retrieved a healing potion for Pokémon that Sato didn't recognize and injected it into Charmeleon.
"Good job, Golbat! Your strength is even greater than I imagined!"
Noticing Alice's actions, Sato chose not to pursue further. He recalled Golbat, letting it perch on his shoulder. After giving it a high-quality PokeBlock and praising it, he turned to leave.
As he walked, the security personnel and sailors who had arrived parted to make way, watching Sato and his Golbat with awe.
Alice returned Charmeleon to its Pokéball and turned to see Sato walking away, his Golbat on his shoulder. Her beautiful eyes fixated on his retreating figure.
At that moment, an eerie silence enveloped the scene.
"What's your name? I'm Alice Sasaki! Next time, I will definitely not lose to you!!!"
Suddenly, Alice shouted through tears, her voice breaking as she called out to the disappearing Sato.
'Sasaki!'
Hearing the somewhat familiar surname, Sato paused but couldn't place where he had heard it before. He decided to push it aside and continued on his way, not paying her any more attention.
Alice received no response from Sato, who hadn't spoken a single word to her throughout their encounter.
As Sato faded from her view without replying, tears finally streamed down Alice's face. She hurriedly covered her face with her hands and rushed away from the ticket booth.
In the world of Pokémon, if conflicts couldn't be resolved through normal means, then a Pokémon battle would ensue.
The victor takes all, while the loser has nothing more to say.
