"Be careful, rookie. If your Pokémon gets defeated, recall it immediately. Anything can happen in the arena, even death."

As Sato was about to leave the waiting room and enter the passage to the battle arena, a young female Trainer sitting near the door turned her head slightly and spoke to him with a blank expression.

"Thanks for the warning. I'll be careful. My name is Sato," he replied, glancing at the Vulpix with a cautious look in her arms, smiling slightly before opening the door and heading into the arena passage.

"You seem to think highly of him. Why'd you give him a heads-up? Don't tell me you've taken a liking to him. He's not even as good-looking as me," teased a male Trainer, clearly her companion, after Sato had left.

The female Trainer had a typical Kanto appearance—black hair, black eyes, and healthy tanned skin. She wasn't strikingly beautiful, but her features were the kind that grew on you. Her simple and modest attire also marked her as a regular civilian Trainer. In her arms, she held an adorable Vulpix.

"Hmph, you'd better be careful. Didn't you notice? Vulpix is wary of him," she said seriously, casting her companion a sidelong glance. Her Vulpix possessed a unique ability to sense danger, and thanks to that, she had avoided several crises in the past, which was why she often carried it with her.

When Sato had walked past just now, her Vulpix had put up a cautious expression, pressing its paws on her arm—its way of warning her of danger.

"No way! Vulpix was wary of him? That hasn't happened in a while. If that's the case, that guy might be a tough opponent. Hmm, I'll have to get to know him better later."

The male Trainer's playful expression quickly faded after hearing his companion's words and seeing her Vulpix nod at him. He, too, had benefited from Vulpix's ability in the past and trusted the female Trainer's judgment completely.

"Just watch the screen. This battle should give us a good idea of his strength," the female Trainer said, turning her focus back to the large screen behind them. By now, Sato and Ishida Taro had already taken their positions on opposite sides of the battle arena.

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, we're about to begin the next Pokémon battle! Our competitors this time are the newcomer Sato and his first opponent here at this arena, Ishida Taro, who's on a six-win streak with 21 total victories!"

As soon as the referee announced their names, the crowd erupted into cheers.

"Ishida Taro!"

"Ishida Taro!"

"Ishida Taro!"

It was clear that Ishida was quite popular in this battle arena, thanks to his winning streak. The moment his name was announced, the audience began chanting his name to cheer him on.

"So, this is the arena. It feels different, but it looks like I'm already considered the underdog," Sato thought to himself, looking at the packed stands and listening to the crowd's cheers.

"You hear that, kid? If you know what's good for you, just surrender right away. I don't want my Pokémon wasting precious energy on a pawn like you tonight," Ishida Taro taunted, excited and proud from the cheers of the crowd.

He loved this arena, loved the atmosphere, and believed that it was the key to helping him, a regular civilian Trainer with no background, gain resources and rise through the ranks.

That's why he had to win. He had to keep winning. He wanted to use his trained Pokémon to win fame and fortune.

Soon, the large screen in the arena began spinning the two roulette wheels. When the wheels stopped, the pointer on one wheel landed on Ishida Taro's side, indicating that he would release his Pokémon first, while the pointer on the other wheel landed on the rock symbol, indicating that the battle would take place on a rocky terrain.

"Hmph, even if I let you go second, it won't make a difference. Go, Poliwrath!"

Seeing the roulette pointer land on him, Ishida Taro nonchalantly remarked. After the battlefield switched to a rocky terrain, he quickly released his Pokémon from the PokéBall in his hand.

A beam of white light shot out from the opened PokéBall, landing on the rocky battlefield. When the light faded, a very muscular Poliwrath appeared.

This Poliwrath seemed to have quite a temper. As soon as it entered the battlefield, it smashed a nearby boulder into pieces with its massive fists, then effortlessly leaped onto the highest rock, gesturing provocatively at Sato.

"Hahaha! There it is! Ishida Taro's Poliwrath is once again taunting his opponent! How will newcomer Sato respond to this challenge? What Pokémon will he send out to face it?"

The commentator, a middle-aged man, hyped up the crowd even more as the atmosphere in the arena heated up.

"Impressive, but if you think you'll beat me easily, you're dreaming."

As Poliwrath taunted him, Sato used his system's scanning ability to examine Poliwrath's stats carefully.

Pokémon: Poliwrath

Level: 30

Type: Water/Fighting

Ability: Damp

Gender: Male

Known Moves: Water Sport, Water Gun, Hypnosis, Bubble, Double Slap, Rain Dance, Body Slam, Bubble Beam, Rollout, Seismic Toss, Water Pulse (Egg Move), Ice Punch (TM), Protect (TM), Hyper Beam (TM)

Judging from Poliwrath's stats, Ishida Taro was no weak Trainer, despite being a regular trainer. It was likely that he had evolved his Poliwhirl into Poliwrath using a Water Stone, and he even had the means to purchase the TMs for Ice Punch and Hyper Beam.

"Come out, Zubat! I'll be counting on you for this battle."

Despite the opponent's strength, Sato showed no hesitation. He released his chosen Pokémon for the battle.

In the next moment, a beam of white light shot into the air from Sato's PokéBall, and a well-developed Zubat appeared, hovering in the sky.

"Wow! What a large Zubat! Sato has chosen to send out a Pokémon with a type advantage over Poliwrath's Fighting-type. Without further delay, let's begin the battle!"

As the commentator briefly introduced Zubat, he quickly prompted the referee to start the match.

The moment the commentator finished speaking, the referee waved the flag to signal the start of the battle. Standing atop a rock, Poliwrath didn't wait for any commands from Ishida Taro and immediately fired a Bubble Beam at Zubat.

A rapid stream of glowing blue bubbles shot out from Poliwrath's belly like a machine gun, spraying toward Zubat and covering the sky, making it nearly impossible for Zubat to dodge.

But Zubat, after a week of survival training in the wild, had grown significantly. As soon as it emerged, it used its echolocation to track Poliwrath's every movement.

Faced with Poliwrath's laughable sneak attack, Zubat responded without hesitation. A three-meter-wide white whirlwind appeared in front of it.

In the eyes of the astonished audience, the spinning white whirlwind pulled in all of the blue bubbles formed by Poliwrath's Water-type attack.

"Well done, Zubat! Show this arrogant idot our strength!" Seeing Zubat had successfully blocked the sneak attack, Sato praised Zubat, then quickly issued his attack command.

Without any delay, Zubat, controlling the white whirlwind, sent it surging toward Poliwrath, carrying Poliwrath's own Bubble Beam with it.
