Chapter 184: Formation of the Elder Council

Yvette passed through the suite's living room and entered the bedroom, where she saw Alexander lying on the bed, peacefully asleep.

As she approached and got a clear look at Alexander's face, her complexion turned pale in an instant. "How... how did he get hurt like this?"

Though Yvette was now considered among the ranks of the strong, she could clearly see that Alexander's condition was dire, his aura as faint as a flickering candle in the wind.

For reasons she couldn't explain, her heart twisted with pain.

She reminded herself that she had no emotional attachment to this young man; her association with him was purely driven by her own ambitions.

Yet... seeing someone who had always appeared invincible now reduced to such fragility made her heart ache inexplicably.

Yvette moved closer to get a better view of Alexander's face.

He was sleeping soundly, looking like nothing more than a fresh high school graduate. How could this be the leader of a transcendent organization?

Yvette extended her hand, intending to touch Alexander's forehead as she murmured to herself, "Is this the real you?"

But just as her hand was about to make contact, the temperature in the room abruptly spiked!

A massive white python emerged from Alexander's body, its enormous form filling the entire room. The serpent's giant head loomed close to Yvette, its gaze menacing, while its forked tongue flicked out with unease.

Startled, Yvette staggered back, clutching her chest, nearly collapsing to the ground.

Despite the heat radiating from the white python, it sent an icy chill through her very bones.

Yvette almost forgot—no matter how weak he seemed, this was still Alexander!

Time moved on until night fell.

Alexander slept through the entire day, only waking up around midnight.

Groggily, he sat up in bed, a wave of intense dizziness hitting him.

Holding his forehead, Alexander muttered, "This body really is in terrible shape."

He glanced toward the window, catching his reflection.

His hair was streaked with white.

Alexander chuckled wryly, "I guess I really am an old man nearing seventy now."

"And with less than a year left to live."

For someone teetering on the brink of death, battling the Seven Disciples all night had indeed taken its toll.

Sliding into his slippers, Alexander made his way out of the room and immediately spotted Yvette seated on the sofa.

When Yvette saw him, she quickly stood and offered a respectful bow. "Sir."

Alexander didn't question why she was there and simply said, "Prepare me a cup of coffee."

With that, he began descending the stairs.

"President, you're awake!"

Jack, stationed in the lobby, exhaled in relief upon seeing Alexander.

He had feared that Alexander might not make it.

Alexander nodded slightly and sank into the sofa, his dizziness returning.

Lowering his head, he massaged his temples and said, "Go, summon Hungry Ghost, Rosie, and everyone else. I have something to announce."

Jack respectfully complied and left the attic.

In truth, Hungry Ghost, Yamato, had already arrived in the courtyard after receiving instructions from Yvette.

However, Yamato was a master of concealment, capable of remaining utterly motionless like a corpse, making it impossible for Jack to detect him.

A few minutes later, Rosie was brought to the attic by Jack's spatial gate.

Rosie, upon seeing Alexander, was visibly startled. Alexander waved her to a seat as he continued to rub his forehead.

At this moment, Yvette returned with a cup of coffee.

Alexander took a sip and murmured, "Sit."

When Yvette noticed Rosie, her expression grew tense.

Rosie rarely left the café, as she was responsible for operating the backend of the Mercenary Guild app, monitoring mercenaries, and maintaining the firewall.

For her to appear in person suggested that something significant was happening with the Mercenary Guild, especially considering Alexander's current poor condition.

After drinking the coffee, Alexander seemed more refreshed. In a soft voice, he said, "No need to be nervous. I called you here today for a small organizational change in the Guild."

"Strictly speaking, this change should have been implemented a long time ago, but it was delayed for various reasons."

The group remained silent, their expressions varied, as they awaited Alexander's words.

Tapping his fingers habitually on the table, Alexander continued in a calm tone, "I hereby announce that the Elder Council of the Mercenary Guild is officially established today!"

The Elder Council?

Hearing this, the group exchanged glances, bewildered.

This term sounds a bit confusing, but it also seems very impressive.

Alexander continued, "Members of the Elder Council will have management authority equivalent to the presidents of branch offices in various cities within the Mercenary Guild.

Within their specific areas of authority, the Elder Council members will hold powers greater than the presidents of the city branches."

The first statement was easy for everyone to understand.

It meant a promotion, elevating their status and authority within the Mercenary Guild.

The second statement left them slightly puzzled.

What does 'specific areas of authority' mean?

Alexander looked at Jack. "Starting today, you are the Director of Logistics.

You will oversee the delivery of mission rewards, mission items, and information within the Mercenary Guild.

I recall you have quite a few subordinates working under you.

From now on, they can be officially referred to as Courier Hunters.

Within the scope of logistics delivery, your authority will surpass that of any city branch president in the Mercenary Guild."

Hearing this, Jack's eyes lit up with excitement.

Although the title 'Logistics Director' didn't sound particularly glamorous, Jack didn't mind.

He already had a group of loyal followers who often accompanied him on delivery tasks.

Now, these followers would officially become part of the organization.

More importantly, his authority had significantly increased.

In the domain of logistics delivery, Jack's power would surpass any branch president.

This meant that during courier missions, presidents of other city branches would rank below him.

Jack wasn't entirely sure how many branches the Mercenary Guild had, but he assumed there were a lot.

Probably quite a few, considering Alexander's constant mysterious comings and goings. Who knows how many branches he had established?

Alexander raised his gaze, looking at Jack indifferently.

"I'll also grant you special privileges on the Mercenary Guild app. You'll be able to view your courier missions directly from your account dashboard.

But remember, you cannot fail any mission. If you do, you will face punishment."

Jack shivered, immediately recalling the agony of being burned by the Green Lotus Core Flame.

Swallowing nervously, his eyes were filled with fear. "Yes, I understand."

Ever since encountering rogue hunters in White Mountain City, Alexander had reflected on his management.

The Mercenary Guild had a glaring problem: he was the only true leader.

Alexander wasn't a god; he couldn't oversee everything. This had allowed a group of hunters to act recklessly under his nose in White Mountain City.

Thus, Alexander decided to delegate power.

Each Elder would be granted a specific attribute of authority, and together, these attributes would encompass Alexander's role as president.

All Alexander needed to do was maintain control over these Elders who held such authority.

The people in the attic were those Alexander trusted most. Their combat strength was impressive, with everyone except Rosie being at A-rank.

Alexander turned to Rosie and said, "The online department will be under your supervision.

But the online department can't rely on you alone.

You can select your subordinates. Recruitment and background checks are your specialties.

From data theft to virus insertion, information retrieval, and maintaining the Mercenary Guild app, the online department will handle these tasks.

Also, the current Mercenary Guild app needs an upgrade."
