Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 Summary (Happy May Day!)

Swoosh

Qingming's figure appeared on the battlefield. Without hesitation, he hurled a kunai at the struggling Baishi Sodo. The kunai sped across seven or eight meters, seemingly about to hit its mark. But at that very moment, Baishi Sodo lifted his head and flashed a sinister grin. His entire body transformed into a streak of lightning, closing in on Qingming with startling speed, showing no signs of the weakness he had previously displayed.

Clearly, Baishi Sodo had been faking his exhaustion. Yet, despite this sudden outburst, Qingming remained calm. As if he had expected the move, he immediately retreated while quickly forming hand seals.

"Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique!"

In an instant, Qingming cast a genjutsu on Baishi Sodo just before he could reach him. Baishi Sodo, having thought it was just another ninjutsu, was caught off guard by the illusion. His consciousness was drawn into a virtual world, where he could still feel his body but was unable to move. Glancing down, he saw large, rusty iron spikes piercing his limbs and torso, causing searing pain, even though he knew it was an illusion.

Back in reality, Qingming let out a long breath of relief as the lightning-imbued short blade hovering near his throat gradually dissipated. However, just as Qingming thought the battle was over, another figure appeared from behind him, moving at a speed equal to Baishi Sodo's earlier assault, intent on striking him down while he was off-guard.

But had Qingming really let his guard down?

The moment the attacker appeared, Qingming, as if he had anticipated this too, quickly dodged and hid behind Baishi Sodo. With a cold sneer, he said, "So you've finally shown yourself!" He then retreated further.

Seeing this, the real Baishi Sodo—or rather, his shadow clone—gritted his teeth and prepared to free the real Baishi from the genjutsu. But before he could act, an exploding tag on Baishi's back ignited, sending sparks flying.

Boom!

A massive explosion followed, with fiery red flames engulfing both Baishi Sodo and his shadow clone, illuminating the dark surroundings. Only after this did Qingming finally relax and begin to gasp for air. Though it appeared he had won easily, the truth was that the battle was heavily reliant on the advantages granted by his Sharingan.

Had it not been for the hypnotic power of his Sharingan, Qingming would have been killed by Baishi Sodo's chain of attacks early on, as Baishi had clearly aimed for a swift kill. But Qingming narrowly survived due to his early activation of the Sharingan.

Beyond just the hypnotic ability, the Sharingan also gave Qingming enhanced perception. This allowed him to see through Baishi's movements and unleash the full potential of his three fire-style ninjutsu and his ninja tool-throwing skills.

If not for the Sharingan, even with his fire ninjutsu at level 2 and his tool-throwing at level 3, Qingming might not have been able to deal with Baishi at all. Without that advantage, Baishi Sodo could have simply dragged the battle out, depleting Qingming's chakra, and killing him once he was too weak to fight.

Fortunately, the Sharingan forced Baishi Sodo to go on the offensive. However, Baishi didn't attack recklessly; he had a strategy. Early in the battle, when Baishi emerged from behind the tree, he had secretly used the "Shadow Clone Technique" to create a clone. He then used himself as bait to divert Qingming's attention while the shadow clone waited for the right moment to strike.

Qingming, however, was more prepared than Baishi anticipated. By using his "Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu" combined with precision ninja tool throwing, he disrupted Baishi's plans. From that point on, Baishi began to lose control of the situation.

Despite this, Baishi had no choice but to continue. After getting hit by Qingming's attack, Baishi pretended to be gravely injured to lure Qingming into the open. Qingming saw through this ruse but still revealed himself, as both combatants were now playing a game of tactics.

Baishi's final plan was to have himself and his shadow clone flank Qingming and deliver a fatal blow. However, Qingming was well aware of this possibility. Although the Sharingan couldn't detect chakra networks directly, it could roughly estimate chakra reserves. When Baishi's chakra suddenly halved, Qingming realized that he had used the Shadow Clone Technique.

Armed with this knowledge, Qingming wasn't surprised by either Baishi's sudden attack or the appearance of his shadow clone. As the saying goes, in a one-on-one fight, the Sharingan holds a massive advantage.

With Qingming already having anticipated Baishi's trump cards, there was little chance the latter could prevail.

Breathing a little easier as the pain in his chest lessened, Qingming opened his status panel for a quick check. The battle had drained nearly all his chakra. A significant portion was consumed by the Sharingan, not just by the ninjutsu.

In normal circumstances, keeping the Sharingan active would consume only a little chakra per minute. But in intense battles, the chakra cost skyrocketed. In just a few minutes, Qingming had used up hundreds of chakra points.

However, there was some good news—his Sharingan had progressed, gaining ten more points in its evolution. This gave Qingming a glimpse of a faster path to evolving the Sharingan. But after considering it for a moment, he decided against it.

Qingming had no desire to risk his life again. With his proficiency panel, there was no need to take such risks, even if it seemed like a shortcut.

As the flames in front of him gradually died down, Qingming clutched his chest, picked up the short blade lying on the ground, and left the area. His plan now was to find a place to lay low and wait for this strange ambush to end.

As for the battlefield? He had done enough—whether others lived or died was now up to fate. Qingming had no intention of returning to the fight, and even if he did, his body wouldn't allow it.

His chakra reserves were nearly empty, and his chest injury prevented him from fighting at full strength. Going back to the battlefield in this condition would be nothing but a death sentence, and Qingming wasn't about to sacrifice himself for anyone else.
