As a special jonin with honed reflexes and combat experience, Kurato instantly made the right choice, dodging and deflecting most of the shurikens. Only his left arm suffered a slight graze, but he didn't pay much attention to the minor injury.
Instead, he stared intently at Seimei, eyes wide with a mix of shock and something else.
Seeing the blood-red Sharingan eyes, Kurato couldn't help but feel a conflicting surge of emotions — a blend of excitement and fear.
The excitement came from the high bounties for the Sharingan, both on the black market and within his own village. Killing Seimei and delivering his corpse would bring Kurato a fortune. For any ninja, such an amount of money was hard to resist, and the thought of killing a young genius like Seimei filled him with a twisted sense of accomplishment.
As for the fear? That came from the deadly reputation of the Uchiha clan.
"One-on-one, you must escape. Two-on-one, flank from behind" — this saying was no exaggeration. The Uchiha's prowess in battle was renowned. Unfortunately for Kurato, he now faced one of them alone. Fear gnawed at him. But when he looked at Seimei's young, inexperienced face, the fear lessened.
His eyes then shifted to Seimei's chest, where a nasty, charred wound from Kurato's earlier attack was clearly visible. Though the wound had been cauterized by the lightning chakra, preventing further bleeding, Seimei had undeniably suffered substantial damage. This realization gave Kurato renewed confidence.
Meanwhile, Seimei was equally observant. He had miscalculated this time. Never had he anticipated that Kurato would possess a second chakra nature. Earlier, Seimei had glimpsed Kurato using earth-style jutsu, and had assumed his chakra nature was earth. It never crossed his mind that the special jonin would also wield lightning techniques.
This underestimation had cost him dearly.
Despite knowing that most jonin develop a second chakra nature, Seimei had subconsciously dismissed Kurato as merely an upgraded chunin — a special jonin. He hadn't considered Kurato a threat on the level of a full jonin, which led to his current predicament.
However, it was also just bad luck. Kurato had likely concealed his lightning nature chakra as a hidden trump card to surprise the Konoha jonin. But due to Seimei's unexpected success in defeating the enemy's lower ranks, Kurato had targeted him instead, leaving Seimei to pay the price for his comrades.
This experience taught Seimei a valuable lesson — never be reckless when his strength isn't sufficient. Any mistake, no matter how small, could be fatal in this world.
Feeling the numbness in his body begin to wear off, Seimei wasted no time. He raised his hands to form seals.
Kurato, wary of the Sharingan's dangers, averted his gaze immediately. He knew better than to look Seimei in the eyes during hand signs, as even a momentary glance could lead him into a genjutsu trap.
Unfortunately for Seimei, his Sharingan wasn't yet developed enough to instantly cast illusions like later prodigies of the Uchiha clan, such as Itachi. If it had been, Kurato's earlier behavior would have cost him dearly.
Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!
Just as Kurato averted his eyes, a massive fireball shot towards him. He dodged to the side, but before he could catch his breath, a kunai was already flying toward him.
Kurato raised his sword to deflect the kunai, but upon noticing the explosive tag attached to it, his expression changed. He leaped backward just as the tag detonated.
Boom!
The explosion missed Kurato, but Seimei wasn't done yet. He swiftly executed the Body Flicker Technique, repositioning himself on another tree branch, forming more seals as he unleashed Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu.
Tiny fireballs, like a burst of fiery seeds, flew toward Kurato. With his Sharingan fully activated, Seimei tracked Kurato's every move, firing the flames at his predicted landing spots. Kurato found himself struggling to evade, barely managing to avoid serious injury. Though he wasn't seriously harmed, his body now bore several burns from the relentless assault.
"Ugh..." Kurato coughed, wincing from the pain of his scorched skin. Yet, when he saw Seimei again preparing to attack, his frustration mounted.
"Is it over?" he muttered.
"Over? Not yet," Seimei coldly responded. He appeared in another location and once again formed seals.
Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!
More fireballs, even fiercer than before, shot out, relentlessly bombarding Kurato's path. Seimei was like a reckless force of nature, paying no mind to his chakra reserves. He was determined to pummel Kurato into submission with relentless fire attacks.
After several volleys of fire, Kurato had had enough. He realized that if things continued like this, Seimei would completely predict his movements, and he would lose any chance to counterattack. The pressure was mounting with each wave of fire.
Finally, Kurato decided to strike back.
After narrowly avoiding another set of fireballs, he dashed out from behind cover, using the Body Flicker Technique to rush Seimei. But with his Sharingan active, Seimei anticipated the move. He quickly used Body Flicker to create distance, tossing three kunai into Kurato's path, perfectly blocking his pursuit.
Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!
As Kurato stumbled, Seimei unleashed yet another round of flaming fireballs. Just as Kurato prepared to dodge, red-hot shurikens suddenly shot out from the flames, catching him off-guard.
Kurato barely managed to deflect the shurikens, but the subsequent fireball struck him directly, sending him flying backward.
Boom!
Kurato crashed into the ground, coughing violently as his burned chest heaved. He struggled to stand, but each attempt ended in failure. His strength was waning.
Seimei stood atop a tree, watching his enemy collapse, his crimson eyes burning with resolve.
