Victor Li, Jiang Enterprises' rival CEO, requested a meeting with Ling Wei.
"Join me at Li Industries," Victor Li offered, his smile charming. "I'll double your salary and provide a promotion."
Ling Wei hesitated, weighing the benefits.
"But why leave Jiang Enterprises?" she asked.
Victor Li leaned in. "Jiang Jian's too controlling. You deserve better."
Ling Wei's thoughts drifted to Jiang Jian's guidance and support.
"I'll consider it," she said, noncommittal.
As she left the meeting, Ling Wei bumped into Jiang Jian.
"How was your meeting?" he asked, his eyes narrowing.
Ling Wei hesitated, unsure how much to reveal.
"Just discussing potential collaborations," she said.
Jiang Jian's gaze lingered, sensing more.
That evening, Jiang Jian summoned Ling Wei to his office.
"I know about Victor Li's offer," he said, his voice low.
Ling Wei's heart skipped a beat.
"I didn't accept," she assured him.
"Why not?" Jiang Jian asked, his eyes locked onto hers.
Ling Wei's voice took on a determined tone.
"Because he's your stepbrother, and he wants to bring you down. I won't be a part of that."
Jiang Jian's expression turned cold.
"I know I told you about him being my stepbrother but how did you know that he's on the opposing side?" he asked, surprised.
Ling Wei nodded. "I overheard some colleagues talking."
She thought to herself "I'm not freaking stupid!!"
Jiang Jian's eyes narrowed.
"Thank you for loyalty, Ling Wei."
Ling Wei's pulse quickened, her face warming.
The tension between them was palpable.
"I value you, Ling Wei. Not just as an employee," Jiang Jian said, his voice low.
Ling Wei's heart skipped a beat.
The air thickened with unspoken emotions.
