Inside a huge living room, men in black suits stood guard at the entrance, and sitting in a chair was a plump, big-bellied, bald man.
On another chair sat a middle-aged man and woman who were smiling warmly.
Finally, standing in one spot was a lady whose face was half-burned. Her hair was straight, black, and long, reaching her waist.
The big-bellied bald man sized up the lady and slightly shook his head. "You said she's Nancy?" he inquired.
"Yes, Mr. Rock. Please don't be displeased with her. Though she's not conventionally pretty, she has a satisfying figure," the middle-aged woman spoke with a sweet smile on her face.
Indeed. The big-bellied man nodded. "Someone!" he called, and a man in a black suit walked forward with a box in his hand. He placed it on the table and opened it, revealing the huge amount of money inside.
"Ah," both the man and woman struggled to hide their excitement with great difficulty.
"It's settled. She's now ours. From now on, her safety, her well-being, her life and death have nothing to do with you again."
"Yes... yes, Mr. Rock, of course! You should take her with you; she's all yours." The middle-aged man stood up and laughed happily.
Mr. Rock stood up and signaled his men before walking away.
Two men approached Nancy and gestured for her to make her way to the exit.
Nancy raised her head, tears escaping her eyes. She took another glance at the middle-aged man and woman before going to the exit.
"Ah... Frances... we are safe! We are safe! I never expected this girl to be worth so much!" the middle-aged woman shouted in excitement.
"Yes... yes, but this money is too much to use on the industry. Let's spend some of it. Call my children; let's show off to our enemies! Haha!"
"Right away!"
...
A luxurious car arrived at a bar. Inside the car, the big-bellied man handed Nancy a black blindfold. "Cover your eyes," he instructed.
Nancy nodded and took the blindfold. She did as she was told and suddenly found herself being lifted up. Her heart skipped a beat, but she dared not scream. She didn't know who was carrying her or where she was being taken, but the pop music she heard assured her that she wasn't going to be killed. Soon, she was set down on a chair, and the music died down, indicating they were in a soundproof room.
"Boss, this girl's name is Nancy too!" the big-bellied man proclaimed, his tone filled with respect.
Hearing the man's voice and the tone he used, Nancy's heart raced. "Will I be sold to another person?" she questioned silently.
"Remove the blindfold," a thick, cold voice commanded, startling Nancy and making her heart race even faster.
"Yes, boss!" the big-bellied man replied and pulled off the blindfold.
Nancy blinked several times to adjust her eyes to the light. She looked around until her gaze fixed on the man sitting in the chair with one leg crossed over the other. He was incredibly handsome, making Nancy hold her breath. His face was cold, and he looked unapproachable. "What a god," she thought, her eyes widening.
"Come closer," the man ordered.
Nancy immediately tore her gaze away and obediently walked closer to him. As soon as she approached, the man suddenly pulled her forward, making her sit on his lap.
The big-bellied man was shocked. "Did the boss just touch her? No... did he just pull her to sit on his lap?" he screamed inwardly.
Even Nancy's eyes widened in shock. Her heart started pounding so hard that she wished to run away but dared not struggle. "Forget it; at least I was resold to a better man. I pray I won't be mistreated by him," she thought to herself and finally calmed down a bit.
"What do you think about becoming Mrs. Rock Raymond, Nancy?" the man asked, his hand caressing Nancy's burnt face.
Nancy's heart raced faster. "Rock Raymond? Does that mean he is the one who bought me? He... he is even asking me if I'm interested in marrying him? What... what is going on?" she questioned herself and lowered her head.
"Sweetheart... should I take your silence as a yes? Or do you need me to pursue you?" the man asked again, a smile appearing on his normally cold face.
What's going on? Is this still the boss? He only met this 'ugly lady' once, right? Also, did he just smile? "the big-bellied man thought to himself in confusion".
Nancy raised her head and looked at the man. "What's wrong with him? Did he take the wrong medicine? Or did he hit his head on something?" she wondered.
"Won't you talk?"
Nancy blinked several times but didn't respond.
"William!" Raymond called out.
"Boss," the big-bellied man replied immediately.
"Prepare a grand proposal party for Mrs. Rock. She will be willing to say yes to me in front of the crowd, right?" Raymond commanded without shifting his gaze away from Nancy.
Hearing Raymond's order, Nancy finally spoke, "No... no... I... I don't want that... I... I don't want a grand confession." Her voice was low yet melodious, echoing like a siren's song.
A smile appeared on Raymond's face. "You mean you agree to marry me already? That's good! How about we go now and get our marriage certificate?"
Nancy pressed her lips together. "Why... why do you want to marry me?" she stammered.
"This lady is pushing her luck a bit too much," William thought.
Raymond smiled handsomely and gently caressed Nancy's face. "Isn't it obvious? I clearly love you; that's why," he replied simply.
It was as if thunder struck William, leaving him rooted to the spot, eyes widening in disbelief.
Nancy's mouth fell slightly open. "Is this love at first sight? But... how is that possible? He couldn't have taken a liking to me because I'm burnt, could he?" she pondered.
"What? My wife is shocked?" Raymond chuckled.
"You... you... you are... kidding me, right?" Nancy stammered. "I'm... I'm ugly; my... my face is burnt. Even... even my boyfriend abandoned me because of that," she managed to say, her voice gaining a bit more strength.
"Do I look like I'm kidding?" Raymond inquired, wearing a serious expression.
Nancy shook her head.
"You should know that every word of mine for you is the truth," Raymond declared.
Nancy pressed her lips together. "Is he really serious? I am useless now and won't be of any use to him. Maybe he really has fallen in love with me," she thought. "I... I heard you," she replied quietly.
"I have a surprise for you."
"Huh! What... what surprise?"
"Tomorrow, we are going abroad to get your face fixed."
"Surgery?"
"That's correct"
