Zina's POV
The drive home felt endless. The car was silent except for the soft hum of the engine, but inside my head, the voices of Xaden and Trina echoed over and over.
"Pull out of the case… or something happens to you."
I gripped the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white, trying to keep my focus on the road. But the words wouldn't stop haunting me.
Jared sat in the passenger seat, his eyes darting between me and the rearview mirror. He was on high alert, scanning the road as if expecting someone to tail us.
Asher sat quietly in the back, staring out the window. My heart clenched seeing him so withdrawn. He hadn't said much since leaving the courthouse, and I couldn't blame him. I wanted to protect him from all of this, but how could I when I didn't even feel safe myself?
"You okay?" Jared finally broke the silence.
I didn't trust my voice, so I nodded instead.
"You're lying," he said softly.
