Zina's POV
I couldn't sit at that table for another second. Not with Xaden glaring daggers at me like I'd committed the worst crime in history, Trina sitting there smirking like she owned the damn world, and Jared cracking jokes like we were all one big happy family. My appetite had disappeared ages ago, and honestly? So had my patience.
"Excuse me," I mumbled, pushing my chair back so fast it scraped against the floor.
Jared raised an eyebrow at me, his fork halfway to his mouth. "You okay?"
"I'm fine," I lied. My voice was way too tight to sound convincing. "I just need to wake Asher up."
I didn't wait for anyone to respond. I grabbed my plate and made a beeline for the kitchen, my heart pounding so hard I was sure everyone could hear it.
As soon as I was alone, I set the plate down on the counter and leaned against it, pressing my palms into the cool surface like it could somehow ground me. My hands were shaking. Why were they shaking?
