The library was quiet, just the way I liked it. Sunlight streamed through the large windows, casting long shadows across the rows of bookshelves and tables. I found a corner to settle into, trying to focus on the book in front of me, but my mind kept wandering. The peace of the library was something I cherished, but it never lasted long—especially not when Matt was around.
Sure enough, I heard that familiar, annoying voice, cutting through the quiet like a blade. "Good morning~," Matt drawled out, his tone dripping with fake cheer. I didn't even bother to look up. The last thing I wanted was to deal with him.
"Morning."
I kept my eyes on the book, hoping he'd get the hint and leave me alone. But of course, Matt never knew when to quit. "Have you heard any news about Jacob?" he asked, his voice laced with something that almost sounded like curiosity. But I knew better.
