The night was cold, the kind of cold that seeps into your bones and settles there. Snow fell steadily, blanketing everything in a layer of white. We stood outside, all of us bundled up in our coats, our breath misting in the frosty air. I could feel their impatience—my friends shifting from foot to foot, casting glances at each other, and then back at me. I was distracted, the phone pressed to my ear, my focus elsewhere.
"Hey! D'you know how long Sukee was out 'ere waiting for you??" one of them snapped, the irritation clear in his voice. His breath puffed out in angry clouds as he glared at me, but I barely registered it. I waved a hand dismissively, my mind occupied with the call I was about to make.
"Hmph!" another one scoffed, crossing her arms tightly across her chest.
