Chapter 36 - CHAPTER 35 Fallout

Michelle stormed into Alex's estate, her fury barely contained. She threw her handbag onto the nearest chair, her voice sharp and accusing.

"You said this would work!" she spat. "You promised Lynam would fall, and Xanthe would leave him!"

Alex sat by the fireplace, swirling a glass of whiskey, his face taut with frustration. "Calm yourself, Michelle. We miscalculated their unity, that's all."

"Miscalculated?" Michelle scoffed. "You didn't see her! Xanthe looked at me like she knew everything—like she was untouchable!"

Alex's eyes narrowed as he stared into the flames. "She's clever, I'll give her that. But no one is untouchable. They'll slip eventually."

"And if they don't?" Michelle countered, her voice venomous.

Alex turned to her, his expression cold. "Then we'll force them to."

Back at their estate, Xanthe and Lynam sat in the quiet of their study, poring over the evidence they'd collected against Alex and Michelle. The fire crackled in the hearth, casting shadows across their determined faces.

"They're not done," Xanthe said, breaking the silence. "Michelle's desperation and Alex's pride won't let them back down. We need to be ready."

Lynam nodded, his jaw clenched. "Agreed. But they're predictable. Alex will strike where he thinks he has leverage—my reputation, our finances, or the people close to us."

"And Michelle?" Xanthe asked, her golden eyes flickering with both resolve and weariness.

"She'll keep trying to undermine your trust in me," Lynam said, his voice softer. He took her hand in his. "But she'll fail. Because I'm not the man I was before I met you, Xanthe. You know that, don't you?"

Xanthe smiled faintly, her fingers tightening around his. "I know. And I trust you."

As their enemies regrouped, Xanthe turned her focus back to her pack. She had earned her place as Alpha Luna, but whispers of dissent still lingered. Some questioned her strength; others doubted her loyalty to the pack after spending so much time in the human realm.

Her chance to prove herself came with an unexpected challenge: a rogue pack had begun encroaching on their territory, threatening their safety and resources.

Xanthe stood before the pack council, her voice steady as she addressed the room. "This is our land, our home. And I will defend it with everything I have."

The council leader, an elder named Cael, raised an eyebrow. "And how do you propose we do that, Luna? These rogues are fierce, unrelenting. Do you expect us to follow you blindly?"

Xanthe stepped forward, her presence commanding. "Not blindly. I'll lead the charge myself. I'll show you that my loyalty isn't just words—it's action."

Under Xanthe's leadership, the pack prepared for battle. She worked tirelessly, strategizing with Lynam and training alongside her warriors. Her strength, both physical and emotional, inspired those who doubted her.

When the day of the battle came, Xanthe fought fiercely, her werewolf instincts sharpening her movements. She faced the rogue leader in single combat, defeating him with a combination of skill and cunning. The pack roared in victory, their faith in her solidified.

As Xanthe celebrated her victory with the pack, Alex and Michelle launched their final scheme.

Using forged documents and fake witnesses, Alex orchestrated a legal battle that threatened to seize control of Lynam's company and tarnish Xanthe's name in the public eye. The media frenzy painted Xanthe as an untrustworthy outsider, claiming she had manipulated her way into wealth and power.

Meanwhile, Michelle used the chaos to stir doubt among Xanthe's allies in the pack. She spread rumors that Xanthe's commitment to the human realm made her unfit to lead as Alpha Luna.

When the tension reached its peak, Xanthe and Lynam decided to confront Alex and Michelle directly. They invited them to a "truce meeting" under the guise of negotiating peace.

At the meeting, held in Lynam's office, Xanthe and Lynam presented their evidence—documents exposing Alex's fraudulent activities and recordings of Michelle's manipulations.

"You underestimated us," Xanthe said, her voice calm but commanding. "You thought we were like you—driven by greed and pride. But we're stronger than that. And we're done playing your games."

Alex's face darkened as he realized the extent of their knowledge. "You think you've won?" he sneered.

Lynam stepped forward, his voice steady. "This isn't about winning. It's about putting an end to your schemes—for good."

As the confrontation escalated, a subtle shift occurred. Xanthe and Lynam's supernatural auras began to seep through, their power undeniable. Though Alex and Michelle couldn't fully understand what they were witnessing, they felt the weight of it—the strength and unity that made Xanthe and Lynam unstoppable.

Defeated and humiliated, Alex and Michelle retreated, their plans in ruins.
