"Continue, we are listening,"
Sergeant Kim said, leaning back in his chair.
The old surgeon hesitated for a moment, his hands trembling slightly, but then began speaking.
"This is how it begins,"
He said, his voice shaky but resolute.
"It all started with that Connect guy. He was kidnapped by our group, and as the only surgeon in the gang, I was ordered to harvest his organs. On that night, I opened his chest and removed both of his eyes. I was certain—absolutely certain—that he was dead. I left his body on the operating table to check something online. But when I returned, the man was gone. No... not gone. He had woken up. His chest, which I had left wide open, was somehow sealed. He was standing, walking towards the tray where his eyes were kept."
The old man's face contorted as if he were reliving the nightmare. His gaze darted to the floor as though trying to avoid the judgment in the room.
"I was terrified,"
He continued, his voice breaking.
"I had never seen anything like it. I called the guards, but before they could react, he grabbed one of his eyes and jumped out of the window, disappearing into the night. Later, I learned what he was. I found out he was something called a Connect—an anomaly, a being that defies everything we understand. That's when everything changed. The gang knew this man could change the scope of our operations. He became a priority and started looking for him, we had to get him back, no matter the cost."
Sergeant Kim's cold gaze bore into him, urging him to continue.
"It was that same night,"
The surgeon said, his voice quieter now,
"that I met Snowflake for the first time, though I didn't know it was him back then. He came to me, covered in blood, riddled with bullets, and on the verge of death. He begged me to save him. I was a doctor first, even then, so I helped. I stitched him up and stabilized him, but…"
He hesitated again, glancing nervously at the two officers.
"While treating him, I secretly transplanted Connect's second eye into him. I thought I was being clever, repurposing something extraordinary. I didn't realize the hell I was unleashing."
Inspector Ray scoffed.
"Isn't that why you got kicked out of National Open Hospital? For swapping people's organs like they were spare parts?"
After making countless research and asking around, they found out that the old surgeon was kicked out of the National Open Hospital because of his strange hobby, exchanging patient's organs, transplanting one person organ to another.
"I must admit, you got a nice hobby."
Sergeant Kim commented, the man didn't argue, he cringed and continued.
"I never thought that transplant would come back to haunt me, to ruin my life and the gang's operations. More importantly, I had no idea it would be the key to the cops uncovering Snowflake's identity. Not until two weeks ago. He came back to... thank me. At least, that's what I thought at first. Instead, he tortured me—beat me within an inch of my life. He said I had ruined him, that I had cursed him with that eye. I didn't even know how he found out about the transplant. It wasn't until last week that I learned the truth. The eye I transplanted… Connect could see through it. Even now, he can see through Snowflake's eye."
Inspector Ray leaned forward, incredulous.
"You're saying Uche—Connect—can see through Snowflake's eye? How is that even possible?"
"I don't know,"
The surgeon admitted.
"But it's true. That's how he learned about Snowflake."
Sergeant Kim rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"This explains so much. Remember the day we first met Uche at that company? How he accused Kante of killing that lady? It all makes sense now."
The surgeon continued, his voice now a whisper.
"Two days after Snowflake's first visit, he brought up a topic that intrigued me. He mentioned Connect, saying the police had arrested him, mistaking him for Snowflake. He ordered me to contact the gang and tell them to retrieve Connect at all costs. I relayed the message. That night, the gang staged the ambush. They tried to rescue him…"
He trailed off, his face darkening.
"That bastard planned the whole thing, didn't he?"
Inspector Ray said with his fist clenched, thinking of how he had almost lost his life during that ambush, only to learned now that they were being played, like a game of chess.
"The whole thing was done by him, the video we received that night, how we got Uche's address, the ambush and how we lost Uche again. He planned everything, but why?"
Sergeant Kim said, his expression thoughtful.
"To use Uche as a bait and get us off his back, thinking we have finally arrest the invincible Snowflake."
Inspector Ray said, but Sergeant Kim shook his head.
"That's not entirely true, if he only wanted to use Uche as a bait, he wouldn't have sent the traffickers gang after us, I can only guess he has something else to do with Uche."
Sergeant Kim said.
"Yes, he had a use for him."
The man said.
"A few days later after the ambush, he brought in those two people with me, torture them all day and ask question about this Uche person. Then this night, he went out and brought Connect back with him, unconscious. And that's when everything was revealed after Connect finally wake up."
The room fell silent. Sergeant Kim and Inspector Ray leaned closer, their eyes locked on the surgeon, their anticipation palpable. But before he could speak, an officer burst into the room, panting, sweat dripping from his face.
"Sir, this just came in for you,"
The officer said, placing a phone on the table.
Sergeant Kim snatched it up, and both he and Inspector Ray peered at the screen. A message had been sent to their email.
"Uche?"
Inspector Ray whispered as they opened the file. It was an audio recording. Without hesitation, they pressed play.
The room filled with Snowflake's voice. It was a detailed confession, every word spoken in the lab. His arrogance, his plans, and his secrets spilled out for the police to hear. The recording lasted nearly an hour, and by the end, the room was steeped in a heavy, ominous silence.
Inspector Ray was the first to break it.
"Are we sure this isn't another trap?"
The surgeon shook his head.
"No, it's real. Snowflake spoke carelessly because he thought we were all going to die after he got what he needed from Connect."
Kim's jaw tightened.
"So he really had a use for Uche. Interesting. If we hadn't arrived in time…"
He trailed off, the unspoken horrors hanging in the air.
"What do we do now?"
Inspector Ray asked.
Sergeant Kim's expression hardened.
"We hunt him down. Publish his story to the world. Plaster his face everywhere. Seal his properties, his accounts—everything. And we keep Uche's secret safe. He's earned that much."
Inspector Ray shrugged.
"Do we really need to? Snowflake's dying. He's only got a few years left, right? Why bother?"
Inspector Kim stared at him in disbelief.
"Why bother? Do you have any idea how many lives he could destroy in those few years he had left? Don't you want to kick his butt so hard for everything he's done to us?"
Inspector Ray smirked.
"Right. Let's end this."
