The school doctor narrowed his eyes before swiftly moving to sever the tendons in Ling Xue's hands and feet.
Ling Xue's body convulsed in pain. Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the doctor, her lips trembling as she bit down hard enough to draw blood. How could he do this? How could he cut her meridians? Without them, how was she supposed to channel her spiritual energy?
True fear finally flooded Ling Xue's heart. Her gaze filled with a mixture of terror and hatred as she looked at the doctor.
Even Ning Shu was momentarily stunned, her eyes flicking between the doctor and Ling Xue's limp arm. The precision of the cut was so immaculate that not a drop of blood spilled. The doctor's expression remained cold, as though the body before him was nothing more than an object awaiting dissection.
Ling Xue and Ning Shu both shivered. While Ning Shu felt a cold chill, Ling Xue's fear was paralyzing. She had a dreadful premonition that her life would end here, in this lab, and that she would spend each day dreading the unknown moment when it would all be over.
This couldn't be real. She was the one and only cultivator in this world! Ling Xue had stood at the pinnacle, nearly a god among mortals. And now she was to be trapped here, never seeing the light of day again? It was unthinkable. But no matter how much she struggled, the pain in her limbs sapped her strength, and her spiritual energy came to a grinding halt. Her hatred was overwhelming.
Ning Shu, on the other hand, felt a wave of relief. She never expected her mission would be completed this way. Ling Xue, the once untouchable figure, had now become a mere test subject for the doctor to study.
She glanced at Ling Xue one last time and turned to the doctor. "Uncle, I'll head back now."
"I'll walk you back," he replied, placing his scalpel down and removing his gloves.
Ning Shu was caught off guard by the offer and nervously joked, "Uncle, you're not planning to silence me, right?"
The doctor paused, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm, that's not a bad idea."
"Uncle, I was just joking! I swear, I don't know anything!" Ning Shu was practically ready to beg for her life.
"Relax, just forget everything that happened today," the doctor said calmly.
As they walked back, Ning Shu felt like her legs would give out. By the time they reached the nurse's office, she let out a relieved breath. The cold, stifling atmosphere of the lab had been suffocating.
"Uncle, what's going to happen to Ling Xue?" she asked cautiously.
The doctor's expression turned icy. "It's none of your concern. The higher-ups have been aware of her for a while now. It's above your pay grade."
Ning Shu's eyes widened. So, there was a larger organization involved? And the doctor was part of it? Definitely not something she should be prying into.
She edged closer to the doctor, but he quickly jabbed her forehead. "Speak if you want, but don't get so close."
"Uncle, you're incredible! I respect you so much, my admiration is like a river that never ends…" Ning Shu started gushing.
"If you have something to say, just say it. Don't be so nauseating." The doctor dusted off his spotless white coat, perhaps out of a touch of OCD.
"Alright, what do you want to know?" he asked, sounding bored.
Ning Shu decided she really did worship him now. "Uncle, you're seriously amazing! I just—"
The doctor raised his hand to cut her off, and Ning Shu quickly silenced herself.
"Uncle, can you help me find out who my real parents are?" Since meeting him, everything in this world had become so much easier. She was determined to hold onto this golden opportunity.
