Chapter 12 - ..VS Malakar 1

The ground trembled as the giant rose once more, its form blocking out the sky. Its eyes burned with a sickly green fire, and its sword, pulsing with dark magic, gleamed with a malevolent light that distorted the very air around it. Julian felt a pang of dread in his chest as he struggled to rise, his muscles aching from the relentless battle. The shockwave from the last swing of the giant's sword had knocked him senseless, but now his mind was clearing, and with it, the stark realization of how dire their situation had become.

Kaelin was already on her feet again, brushing dirt from her leather armor, her eyes hard and calculating. Eirik was less fortunate, still kneeling on the ground, struggling to catch his breath. His sword lay in the dirt beside him, and Julian saw a smear of blood across his chest. It wasn't much, but it was enough to remind them all that they were not invincible. They were mortal.

The giant, now fully recovered from the blow to its knee, bellowed with fury, the sound shaking the air around them. Its massive form shifted, and it raised its sword once more. The magic in the blade intensified, casting an unnatural glow across the battlefield. Julian could feel it—the very essence of the land seemed to shrink back from the sword, as if it too feared the power it held.

"Fall back!" Eirik shouted, his voice hoarse. But it was too late. They had no time to retreat.

The giant swung its sword with a roar of fury, and the very ground beneath them buckled. A massive shockwave of dark energy radiated outward, sending ripples of destruction through the landscape. Julian's body was lifted off the ground like a ragdoll, tossed through the air as if he were nothing more than a leaf in a storm. His vision blurred, and for a moment, the world spun, a vortex of pain and darkness.

**CRASH!**

He landed with a bone-jarring thud, the world going black for a split second before his senses returned. His body ached, every inch of him bruised and battered, and his breath came in ragged gasps. He tried to push himself up, but his limbs were like lead. Every movement was slow and painful, and for a moment, he thought he might not be able to continue. But then the voice of Kaelin cut through the ringing in his ears.

"Julian! Get up!"

Kaelin was already back on her feet, her eyes locked on the giant, her face streaked with dirt and blood, but there was no sign of fear in her gaze. Her voice, sharp and commanding, was the spark he needed. He gritted his teeth and forced himself upright, his sword heavy in his grip.

"Eirik?" he called out, his voice barely more than a rasp.

"I'm here," came the gruff reply. Eirik was already moving toward them, his face pale, but his eyes bright with determination. His armor was dented and scratched, but he had a fire in him that refused to be extinguished.

The giant let out a deep, rumbling laugh, the sound a horrible mix of contempt and arrogance. "You still live?" it bellowed, its voice reverberating through the air. "Fools. You will not leave this place alive."

Kaelin's jaw tightened. "We'll see about that."

Julian nodded, taking a deep breath and steadying himself. His thoughts raced—this was no ordinary giant. It was not just its size, or the dark aura surrounding it, but the way it seemed to draw on the very fabric of the earth itself. Its power was unnatural, as if it was an extension of some greater, malevolent force. They were not just fighting a giant—they were fighting something far worse.

Eirik didn't waste any time. He lunged forward, his sword raised high, but the giant's sword was faster. With a single swipe, it met Eirik's blade with an explosion of sparks and force. The impact sent Eirik sprawling backward, his sword knocked from his hand.

"Eirik!" Kaelin cried out, rushing to his side.

But the giant didn't give them time to recover. It swung its sword in another devastating arc, its glowing blade cutting through the air like a deadly scythe. Julian barely had time to leap out of the way, rolling to the side as the shockwave of the swing sent the ground shuddering beneath him. He could feel the tremor in his bones as if the very earth itself was trying to reject the creature's presence.

Kaelin was already moving again, her body twisting and darting like a shadow, trying to find an opening. She hurled another set of daggers, aiming for the giant's face. But this time, the giant was prepared. It raised one massive hand, swatting the daggers from the air with a casual swipe. The weapons fell harmlessly to the ground as the giant turned its eyes toward Kaelin, its gaze filled with icy malice.

"You are pests," it rumbled, its voice like the grinding of stone. "Nothing more."

But Kaelin wasn't deterred. She sprinted forward, her movements swift and precise, aiming for the giant's right leg once more. She leapt, her daggers flashing as she aimed for the joint. This time, she didn't rely on speed alone. She had learned from their earlier failures and was using every bit of her skill to land a telling blow.

The giant, however, had anticipated this. It swung its sword downward, aiming to crush her beneath it. Kaelin barely managed to roll away, the blade scraping the ground where she had been only an instant before. She landed in a crouch, her breath coming in sharp gasps, and glanced back toward Julian and Eirik.

"We need to take it down now," she said, her voice tight with urgency.

Julian nodded, the weight of the situation settling heavy on his shoulders. He could feel his strength waning, his body begging for rest. But there was no time for that. Not now.

The giant swung its sword again, this time in a horizontal arc, aimed at them both. Julian and Kaelin dove in opposite directions, but Eirik was in the way. The massive blade collided with his side, sending him flying through the air. Julian's heart dropped as he watched Eirik slam into the ground, his body crumpling.

"Eirik!" Julian shouted, running toward his fallen comrade.

But Kaelin reached him first, pulling him to his feet. Eirik coughed blood, his face contorted with pain, but there was no fear in his eyes. Only resolve.

"It's not over," he grunted, wincing as he stood. "We have to end this."

The giant was advancing again, its sword raised high, its eyes glowing with a sickly green fire. It had grown more enraged, more violent with each passing moment, and Julian knew that if they didn't act soon, they wouldn't survive another strike.

"We need a plan," Kaelin said, her voice urgent. "We can't just keep attacking blindly. We need to find a weakness."

Julian's mind raced. There had to be something they hadn't tried yet. Something they hadn't seen.

He remembered Eirik's earlier words, the ones that had kept him going when all seemed lost.

**"The enemy is not always as strong as it seems. It has weaknesses."**

But where was it? What was the giant's weakness?

Suddenly, Julian's eyes locked onto the massive sword the giant wielded, and something clicked. It wasn't just a weapon—it was an anchor. The magic emanating from it was part of the creature's power, a conduit for the dark energy it drew from the earth.

**The sword.**

He didn't know if it would work, but it was the only chance they had.

"Kaelin!" Julian shouted. "Distract it! I'll go for the sword!"

Kaelin didn't hesitate. Without a word, she hurled herself at the giant, a blur of movement. She aimed for its eyes, throwing every dagger she had left, her body moving like water around the creature's swings.

The giant, distracted by her relentless assault, swung its sword in a wide arc, narrowly missing her. It roared in frustration, its attention split between Kaelin and the others. Julian seized the moment.

He charged toward the giant, his sword raised. The earth beneath him seemed to vibrate with each step. He could feel the energy of the land, the magic pulsing through him, but he knew it wasn't enough. Not by itself.

With a shout, Julian leaped toward the giant's outstretched hand. He aimed for the glowing sword, the source of the creature's dark power. His blade struck true, crashing against the hilt of the giant's weapon.

There was a blinding flash of light. The force of the impact sent a shockwave through the ground, and for a moment, everything was still.

Then the giant howled, its voice filled with a terrible, primal fury. The magic in the sword flickered, and for a brief second, the world seemed to shift. The air grew heavy, and Julian's senses were overwhelmed by a surge of energy so intense it nearly brought him to his knees.

But it worked.

The giant's grip faltered. The sword wavered, its aura dimming. It was only for an instant, but it was enough. Julian knew they had found its weakness.

"Now!" he shouted. "Strike!"

Kaelin darted forward, her daggers flashing in the

dim light. Eirik followed, his sword raised, his movements slow but steady, fueled by the knowledge that they had finally found a way to defeat the beast.

The battle wasn't over, not yet. But they had a chance.

And that was all they needed.
