The resistance had secured a specially designed submersible that would take the team deep into the Pacific Ocean. Nyla, Zane, and a select group of elite soldiers would make the descent, while General Aria and the rest of the command team monitored from a nearby vessel.
The submersible cut through the water, descending into the dark, cold depths. The further they went, the more oppressive the blackness became. The world outside the tiny portholes seemed to disappear, swallowed by the ocean's abyss.
Nyla sat quietly, her mind racing. She couldn't shake the feeling that they were walking straight into a trap. But if Zane was right, this could be their one shot at crippling Solas's legacy for good.
"How deep are we?" Nyla asked as she glanced at Zane.
"Almost three thousand meters," Zane replied, his eyes glued to his screen. "We're approaching the coordinates I found in the data packets. Whatever is down here, we're getting close."
Suddenly, the submersible's sensors flared to life. A massive structure appeared on the radar, hidden beneath the seabed. It was enormous, far larger than any node they had encountered before.
"There it is," Zane said quietly. "The Pacific Core."
