Chapter 15 - #14, The Flight to Solaria

Chapter 14

As the group began to move away from the remnants of Varus K 10's dark presence, they noticed Rul standing awkwardly at the back of the line, his dragon wings tucked tightly against his sides. The bright sun shone down, highlighting the iridescent scales that glimmered like gemstones.

"Hey, Rul," Caelan called out, glancing back at the dragon hybrid. "Why are we still walking? You've got wings, dude! Why not just fly us to Solaria?"

Rul's expression turned blank, almost comically so. "Uhh... I didn't think about that?" He scratched his head, looking utterly clueless. In his mind, however, he was screaming, Why didn't I think of that sooner?

The others exchanged incredulous looks, and Elden raised an eyebrow, trying to suppress a chuckle. "Seriously, Rul? You're a dragon. You're supposed to have a higher level of intelligence or something."

"Yeah, we could've been flying this whole time!" Caelan exclaimed, throwing his hands up in exasperation. "You do know how to fly, right?"

Rul puffed up his chest, trying to regain some dignity. "Of course I can fly! Just... give me a second to get ready!" He unfurled his massive wings, each one casting a shadow over the group. With a swift leap, he took to the sky, and moments later, the others followed suit, leaping into the air.

They soared over the landscape, the wind whipping past them as they glided toward Solaria, the capital city. The view was breathtaking; the city sparkled like a jewel beneath the sun, its golden spires reaching for the sky. It was a sight that had been lost in the shadows for far too long, but now it shimmered with the promise of new beginnings.

"Wow, look at that!" Caelan shouted, pointing at the bustling streets below. "It's even more beautiful from up here!"

The rest of the group admired the view, their hearts lifting at the sight of the vibrant city they had fought so hard to restore. As they descended toward the main square, the atmosphere was electric with the buzz of the townsfolk celebrating the return of light.

"Let's land over there!" Elden pointed to a large open space near the fountain at the center of the square.

As they touched down, Caelan looked around, grinning widely. "Feels good to be back! This place is amazing!"

The townspeople began to notice the arrival of their heroes, and cheers erupted from the crowd. People rushed forward, eager to express their gratitude for the heroes who had fought to free their city from darkness.

"Caelan! Elden! Rul!" A familiar voice broke through the cheers. It was Aira, rushing toward them, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You did it! You really did it!"

"Hey, Aira!" Elden called back, trying to play it cool, but a faint blush crept up his cheeks. "It's good to see you again!"

Aira grinned, her expression a mix of pride and admiration. "You all look incredible! And you, Rul, finally decided to show off those wings!"

Rul beamed, trying to look nonchalant but clearly reveling in the attention. "Yeah, I'm pretty awesome like that," he replied, trying to maintain his dragon swagger.

Aira glanced around at the group, her eyes landing on each of them in turn. "So what's next? Are you guys staying for a while?"

Caelan jumped in, "We could use a break! I mean, we've been walking forever. Plus, I think Elden needs some quality time with his crush here." He winked at Elden, who promptly rolled his eyes but couldn't suppress a smile.

"Shut up, Caelan!" Elden shot back, trying to hide his embarrassment. "It's not like that!"

"Right, right. Just friends, of course," Caelan teased, nudging him playfully.

"Whatever, I'm just glad you're back," Aira said, her expression softening. "We've missed you all. The city feels different now, thanks to you."

"Yeah, well, we couldn't have done it without each other," Caelan replied, his tone sincere. "And of course, all those epic battles." He did a little mock hero pose, which made Aira laugh.

The group spent the day reconnecting with the townsfolk, sharing stories and laughter. Rul reveled in the attention, demonstrating his flight skills and putting on a little show for the crowd. The children were especially captivated, their eyes wide with wonder as they watched the dragon hybrid soar and dive gracefully through the sky.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the city, Caelan gathered his friends for a moment of reflection. "You know, it's nice to take a break. But we can't forget what's out there waiting for us. More battles, more challenges," he said, his voice growing serious.

"I know, but we've made a difference here," Elden replied, glancing at Aira, who nodded in agreement. "Let's enjoy this moment."

"Agreed! Besides, we need to stock up on supplies for the next leg of our journey. I heard the markets here have the best snacks!" Caelan said, his eyes sparkling with mischief.

The group laughed, their spirits high, knowing they had each other and a vibrant city behind them. They ventured into the marketplace, the warmth of camaraderie and laughter wrapping around them like a blanket, a brief respite before the next storm.

A Day in Solaria

As Caelan strolled through the bustling streets of Solaria, he marveled at the transformation of the city. Once a shadow of its former glory, it now radiated a vibrant energy. Laughter echoed from the cafes, children played in the streets, and vendors called out cheerfully, inviting passersby to sample their goods. The golden spires of the palace glimmered under the sunlight, making it hard for Caelan to believe just how recently it had been draped in darkness.

As he wandered, he felt the eyes of the townspeople on him. With every step, he heard whispers of admiration and gratitude.

"Look, it's Caelan! The warrior of light!"

"He's the one who brought back the sun!"

Caelan couldn't help but smile, feeling a warm sense of pride swell in his chest. It was a welcome change from the weight of battles fought and losses endured. He waved at the citizens, soaking in the love and recognition.

As he continued on, he spotted Elden and Aira sitting at a nearby café, clearly on a date. Elden was attempting to impress Aira, trying (and failing) to hide his nerves. Caelan grinned mischievously, an idea striking him.

He sauntered over, interrupting their moment. "Hey, Elden! I didn't know you were taking Aira to a gourmet cheese plate! Careful, you don't want to give her food poisoning with your cooking skills!"

Elden shot him a glare, his cheeks flushing crimson. "Caelan, this isn't the time!"

Aira giggled, clearly enjoying the banter. "Don't worry, I'm sure he'll figure it out," she teased, leaning closer to Elden.

With a wink, Caelan left the pair to their flirting and continued his stroll through the market. He admired the stalls filled with colorful fabrics, vibrant fruits, and the enticing scent of freshly baked bread wafting through the air.

As he turned a corner, he suddenly found himself face to face with Seraphis, the ancient spirit who had once chosen him as the chosen one. The warm aura surrounding Seraphis made Caelan feel at ease, and he felt as if he were meeting a father he had longed to see.

"Caelan," Seraphis greeted, his voice like a gentle breeze. "You have done well, my son."

Caelan's expression brightened. "Seraphis! I didn't expect to see you here. I... I tried to do my best."

"I know," Seraphis said, nodding. "You have restored hope to this world, though it is not yet complete. Remember, even a flicker of light can chase away the deepest darkness."

Caelan looked down, a hint of doubt creeping into his heart. "But there's still so much to do. I sometimes feel like I'm not enough."

"Ah, but that is where you are mistaken. Strength does not come from power alone," Seraphis replied, his eyes filled with wisdom. "It comes from the heart. You have gathered allies who believe in you. They are your strength, and together, you can overcome any obstacle."

Caelan felt a rush of determination surge through him. "You're right. I can't do this alone, but together we're unstoppable!"

Seraphis smiled gently. "Indeed. Like the stars in the night sky, each of you shines in your own way, but together you form a constellation that lights the path ahead."

"Thanks, Seraphis. You always know what to say to lift my spirits!" Caelan said, a renewed sense of purpose igniting within him.

"Remember, Caelan, every journey has its trials. Embrace them, for they shape who you are meant to become. Just as the strongest steel is forged in the hottest fire, so too shall you emerge from your battles even stronger."

Before Caelan could respond, Seraphis placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Now go, young warrior. Your friends await you, and the world still needs your light."

With that, Seraphis faded into a shimmering glow, leaving Caelan standing there, feeling empowered and ready for whatever came next. He took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of Solaria envelop him.

As he made his way back toward the café, he couldn't shake the words of Seraphis from his mind. They echoed within him like a mantra, fueling his determination and resolve. He was not just a warrior; he was a beacon of hope, and he would fight for his friends, his city, and the light that still flickered in the hearts of those around him.

Caelan spotted Elden and Aira once more, Elden still nervously fumbling with his words while Aira listened intently, a smile dancing on her lips. The sight warmed Caelan's heart, and he felt a sense of belonging wash over him.

"Hey, lovebirds!" he called out with a teasing grin. "You're missing all the fun! Come on, let's explore!"

As the three of them ventured further into the heart of Solaria, Caelan felt a renewed sense of purpose. With friends by his side and the light of hope shining bright, he was ready to face whatever darkness awaited them.
