The Midnight Pawnshop's door creaked shut behind Wei as he and Ming stepped back onto the dark streets. His mind churned with Mr. Shen's cryptic words, but he couldn't focus on anything but Mei Lan—her lost memories, her cautious gaze, and the weight of everything they had faced together in the Abyss.
Ming broke the silence, her voice tense. "Shen wasn't any help. Now what? We can't just wait for whatever followed us out of the Abyss to strike."
Wei clenched his fists. "I'm not waiting. I'm going to find answers. If the Abyss is alive, like Shen said, then there must be a way to fight it—to stop whatever it left behind."
"How?" Ming asked, her tone skeptical.
