Wei blinked and the world around him shifted, a nauseating whirl of colors and energy. His breath caught in his throat, and for a brief second, he was weightless—floating between dimensions. Then, as suddenly as it began, it ended. His feet hit the ground hard, and the world snapped back into focus.
He was no longer in the Midnight Pawnshop.
His surroundings were dark, the air thick and cold. The smell of damp stone and something metallic hung in the air. Wei looked around, his heart pounding, as he tried to understand where he was.
A low growl echoed in the distance, and Wei's pulse quickened. He wasn't alone.
Mei Lan appeared beside him, her face pale but focused. Her hands moved in the dim light, signing rapidly. "Where are we?"
Wei swallowed hard. "I don't know." His voice sounded small in the vast emptiness around them.
