The weight of unease settled over Wei as he walked with Mei, their footsteps echoing in the quiet of the afternoon. It had been days since they'd last seen Ming, and though she'd been known to disappear now and then giving the excuses of interacting with the great spirits beyond, but this time felt different. Mei voiced what he'd been thinking as they turned onto the street where Ming's small shop was tucked away.
"Do you think she's all right?" Mei asked, worry evident in her voice.
Wei shook his head. "I don't know. Ming's been… off lately. Since I've known her she wouldn't stay alone this long without Kai or jiro by her side it's not like her to stay away without letting someone know." His brow creased as he recalled the last conversation they'd had, a strange tension underlying her words, as if she'd been holding something back.
