Chapter 31: The Return from the Abyss
Wei's hands trembled as he clasped them together, his breath ragged, heart pounding against his chest. The Abyss seemed to coil around him, tightening its grip, refusing to release them. He could feel Mei Lan slipping away, the faint tether between them weakening as the shadows circled like vultures, ready to drag them both back into the darkness.
"We're getting out of here... together," he muttered, his voice strained.
But Mei's voice no longer echoed in his mind. Her memories, the bond they shared, had faded into nothingness. She stood distant now, her eyes vacant, confused.
