After guarding the creek for two days, Yang Zhentian and Yang Podi left the area to try their luck elsewhere. They figured they wouldn't find any high-quality soul beasts nearby and decided to return only if necessary.
As fate would have it, they soon encountered a remarkable soul beast just half a day after leaving the creek.
While passing through a forest, they suddenly encountered a swarm of soul bees. Although not large, each was about the size of an egg, and their numbers were overwhelming, filling the sky. Yang Zhentian quickly pulled his son away from the area.
Yang Podi, still shaken, asked, "Dad, were those Sunset Bees? Why were there so many of them?"
"Yes, those were Sunset Bees. They're unique to the Sunset Forest and are favored by agility-type soul masters."
Yang Podi pondered for a moment. "Dad, something feels off. Why were so many of them moving in one direction, as if they were chasing something?"
"It does seem odd. Could it be that some soul beast dared to steal their honey? That would be quite bold. Sunset Bees are one of the Sunset Forest's rulers, especially because of their numbers."
"Why don't we check it out? Any soul beast bold enough to provoke Sunset Bees must be quite extraordinary."
After some thought, Yang Zhentian led Yang Podi in the direction the bees had gone. Eventually, they arrived at a muddy swamp where countless Sunset Bees were hovering above.
After about half a day, the bees finally seemed satisfied and started to disperse.
A few hours later, a bear emerged from the swamp. It looked clumsy but exuded an imposing aura.
The bear rolled around on the grass, shedding much of the mud from its body. It seemed rather intelligent as it then moved to a nearby creek to wash off. However, as it entered the water, a loud roar echoed—something had bitten it.
The bear struggled frantically, and soon the entire creek was tinged red with blood.
It managed to crawl back onto the bank, but the soul beast that had attacked it followed right behind.
As the bear shook off the mud, its full form was revealed: a 10,000-year-old Earth Demon Bear. Known for its strength, the Earth Demon Bear is a force to be reckoned with among soul beasts, almost unmatched by any others of its level. No wonder it had dared to challenge the Sunset Bees.
However, the soul beast that attacked it was even more terrifying. A golden crocodile emerged from the creek, covered in thick golden scales. It was over ten meters long, and its tail, resembling a spiked mace, had a dangerously sharp tip.
Both Yang Zhentian and Yang Podi exclaimed, "Golden Crocodile!"
Yang Zhentian took a closer look. "No, this isn't an ordinary Golden Crocodile. It's a Golden Crocodile King."
Yang Podi quickly asked, "Dad, how old is this Golden Crocodile King?"
"Judging by its size and teeth, it's probably between 3,500 and 4,000 years old."
"This Golden Crocodile King is perfect. I want it for my third soul ring."
On the battlefield, the Earth Demon Bear was already severely injured within a few rounds. One of its arms had even been torn off, while its claws barely left a scratch on the Golden Crocodile King's scales.
Yang Zhentian swiftly summoned his Soul Breaking Spear and his eight soul rings. His soul rings flickered as he charged toward the Golden Crocodile King, landing a powerful blow that left a gaping wound.
The Golden Crocodile King, however, was ferocious. It clamped its jaws onto the Soul Breaking Spear, halting its progress, and swung its massive tail to force Yang Zhentian back.
But as a high-level Soul Douluo, Yang Zhentian was not easily pushed back. He pulled his spear free and stabbed the Golden Crocodile King's tail, leaving a deep gash.
His soul rings shimmered again as he struck, piercing another hole through the Golden Crocodile King's body. Blood poured from the wound.
The Golden Crocodile King seemed desperate to escape back to the creek, but Yang Zhentian wasn't about to let it go. Activating his sixth soul skill, he impaled the crocodile, pinning it to the ground with a black ring's energy.
The Golden Crocodile King was clearly done for. It lay twitching, its body pinned.
The Earth Demon Bear had already fled, leaving a severed arm behind. Perhaps it had some luck after all.
"Son, finish off the Golden Crocodile King."
Yang Podi quickly approached his father. "Dad, are you sure this attack didn't kill it already?"
"No way. The Golden Crocodile King has tremendous vitality. Hurry and end it."
Yang Podi stabbed his Soul Breaking Spear into one of the crocodile's eyes, but even that didn't finish it. He stabbed again into the other eye, and only then did it stop moving. A purple soul ring rose above its body.
Yang Podi sat beside the Golden Crocodile King's body, summoned his Soul Breaking Spear, and guided the purple ring toward him.
As the ring approached, an overwhelming force coursed through him, sending his soul power into a frenzy as if he were engulfed in flames. The pain was far worse than his first soul ring absorption.
Gradually, a purple ring appeared on his spear, like a bracelet. But the pain had only just begun; his entire body felt as if it were being tempered in magma, his very soul refined.
In his mind's eye, he saw a giant wielding a spear, unyielding before the heavens.
Six hours later, his body finally calmed, and his soul power, which had surged, began to stabilize.
The giant in his mind had traces of silver and gold, while his Soul Breaking Spear felt heavier, its tip even sharper.
With that, Yang Podi had successfully absorbed the 4,000-year-old Golden Crocodile King's third soul ring. The benefits of this ring extended far beyond a mere soul skill.
