“The Lord put a mark on Cain, so that no one who came upon him would kill him” ( Gen 4:15 ). Cain's existence had been one of perpetual wandering and toil ever since that fateful day when he took his brother's life. The curse condemned him to roam the earth, forever tainted by sin. Yet, the restless spirit that had driven Cain for so long never truly left him. Deep within, a yearning persisted - a desperate need to reconnect with the remnants of his past. He found himself constantly searching, scouring the world for two precious artifacts: his mother Eve's canvas stand and the drawing desk he had once shared with his ill-fated brother, Abel. That is, until Cain encountered Arabella, the sister of his closest friend Noah. Arabella, who had her own story, shrouded in darkness. Cursed by a malicious immortal, uncontrollable hunger, confusion, and overwhelming emotions plagued her. ...

The wind whipped through the dimly lit alleyway, carrying with it the haunting, melancholic melody of distant violins. In the shadowy recess between the towering brick walls, a couple embraced passionately, pressing their bodies against the cold, rough wall behind them. The air was thick with the mingling scents of citrus and honey, a heady aroma that seemed to swirl around the entangled pair.

Rowan nestled his face into the delicate curve of Arabella's neck, his hot breath sending tingles down her spine as his fingers traced tantalizing patterns on the soft skin of her thigh. Slowly, deliberately, he pushed the light, flowing fabric of her black sundress, decorated with delicate white daisies, further up her leg, his calloused palms setting her nerve endings ablaze.

As Rowan pressed Arabella more firmly against the unyielding wall, she could feel the chill of the bricks seeping into her back, creating a delicious contrast to his scorching touch.

"Rowan," Arabella moaned into the Parisian air.

As Rowan's face came into view, his soft brownish-blonde hair fell delicately across his shoulders, framing his striking features. His crystal blue eyes shone with a warmth and gentle kindness that immediately drew one's gaze. The crooked, lopsided smile that played across his lips was both endearing and mischievous.

"Yes, my love," Rowan whispered in a thick Irish accent as a blush filtered through his face, complimenting his lustful smile.

Arabella gazed up at Rowan, her captivating hazel eyes shimmering with a mixture of shyness and affection. A delicate blush bloomed across her olive skin. Rowan, entranced by her natural beauty, tenderly ran his fingers through Arabella's curly, chestnut-colored hair. Arabella's heart fluttered with a flutter of butterflies, her body tingling with the electricity of Rowan's tender touch.

"We should get home," Arabella whispered in the shadows in his presence. "Then we can continue." She bit her lip, Rowan's hand moved under her dress, and grabbed her bare waist.

"Or we can continue here," Rowan suggested, watching Arabella roll her eyes, which made Rowan chuckle. "it's Paris, love, the city of sex," he growled as his finger traveled back down Arabella's side and into her soft lace thong.

"Babe, it's the city of love," Arabella exhaled as Rowan's fingers entered her.

"What was that?" Rowan teased, watching Arabella's face relax and soft moans pass through her parted lips.

"Love" Arabella gasped.

Arabella's body was alive with desire as Rowan's strong hands began to caress her sensitive skin. She let out a guttural growl, the primal sound escaping her lips as his thick fingers slowly, purposefully slid in and out, teasing. Arabella's eyes rolled back in her head, a wave of pure, unadulterated lust washing over her. Every nerve ending felt electrified by his touch.

She couldn't resist the urge to grind her hips against his hand, chasing the exquisite friction. But just as quickly as the moment had ignited…Shadowy figures pulled Rowan away from her, their identities obscured in the dark alleyway. With terrifying, superhuman strength, they seized him by the throat, lifting his struggling form into the air as he choked and gasped for breath.

Before she could react, another dark shape emerged, lunging forward with blinding speed. In a horrific spray of crimson, the figure tore into Rowan's throat, his agonized screams drowned out by the gush of his blood. Arabella recoiled in revulsion as the warm blood splattered across her face, the visceral scene unfolding before her eyes…

Arabella's eyes sprung open before she clenched them shut tightly again, but the horrific scene still played out vividly in her mind's eye. She could see it all unfolding again in vivid detail: the dark, damp alleyway, the shadowy figures looming over her, the terror in Rowan's eyes as they ripped his throat out. The sickening sound of their teeth tearing into his flesh, the spray of blood, the life draining from his body as she watched helplessly. Arabella shuddered.

Arabella slowly peeled her hands away from her face, her fingertips trailing down her cheeks as she finally opened her eyes and allowed them to adjust to the dim bedroom around her. With a deep, shuddering sigh of relief, she gazed out at the inky black hardwood floors that looked cold and uninviting, as if they might suck the warmth right out of her bare feet.

The deep purple walls seemed to close in around her, the color appearing almost to cave inward, creating an oppressive and claustrophobic atmosphere. Pulling her legs up to her chest, Arabella hugged them tightly, feeling vulnerable in the empty, silent room, but her stomach let out a low, rumbling growl, reminding her of the gnawing hunger that had roused her from her sleep.

Ignoring the unsettling sensation of being watched, she slowly uncurled herself from the bed and slipped her feet to the floor, a shiver running through her as the chill of the hardwood seeped through her skin. With careful, measured steps, Arabella made her way across the room toward the bathroom, desperate to escape the pervasive darkness and unnerving silence that surrounded her.

….

Arabella stood transfixed before the mirror, her striking reflection casting a bold silhouette against the dimly lit backdrop. The long, sleek coat she wore was a striking blend of crimson and ebony, the rich hues accentuating her lithe frame. Beneath the coat, a vibrant red crop top clung to her torso, its cropped hem revealing a tantalizing glimpse of her toned midriff. Flare-legged jeans adorned her lower half, and the denim swayed gently as she shifted her weight.

With a sudden, almost frenetic motion, Arabella ruffled her fingers through her hair, the short, curly mane springing to life around her face. This spur-of-the-moment chop had been an impulsive decision made in the dead of night, driven by a gnawing, starved state of mind. As Arabella clenched and unclenched her gloved hands, the memory of Rowan's fingers curling around her once-long tresses flooded her, still stinging with a visceral recollection.

Arabella's stomach churned with a deep, rumbling growl, the vibrations pulsing against the worn denim of her jeans. That all-too-familiar sensation of emptiness came rushing through her, a void that ached to be filled.

With a stumbling step, she made her way into the kitchen, where the artsy floral arrangements and the animated checkerboard floors greeted her, the quaint old-fashioned details that used to fill her with a sense of comfort, now feeling hollow. Yanking open the refrigerator door, Arabella's eyes landed on the three wine bottles nestled inside, a silent invitation to numb the gnawing hunger.

Without hesitation, she grabbed one of the bottles, cracking it open and tossing the cap carelessly into the trash. Moving to the nearest window, she gazed out at the tranquil expanse of the lake, the thick, ruby-red liquid sliding down her throat in greedy gulps as she sought to drown out the emptiness consuming her from within.
