Chapter 15 - Chapter 14

Emily was walking in the park with Marshall, his presence close to her sending her heart racing in her chest. She found comfort in his companionship, especially now when many young women around her age had been mysteriously disappearing. The thought of returning home alone at night was making her anxious and afraid, concerned that someone might follow or break into her house while she was by herself.

She glanced over at Marshall, his tall and strong frame walking beside her, making her feel safer in the shadows of the night. An idea popped into her head, a request that she was both eager and nervous to make. She didn't want to come across as needy or clingy, but she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled in her stomach since reading about the missing women.

Marshall could sense her worry and fear as they walked together, his hawk-like eyes observing her every move, her every expression. He knew exactly what was bothering her, and he could not help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction at how vulnerable and scared she was. The thought of spending the night at her house was already forming in his mind, a dark plan beginning to take shape.

He turned to her with a concerned expression, his voice dripping with feigned empathy.

__Marshall: "You seem worried. Is something troubling you?" he said, reaching out to touch her arm.

Emily looked up at him, surprised by the unexpected touch. She tried to force a smile, but the fear was still present in her eyes.

__Emily: It's nothing. she said, a bit too quickly. "I'm just a bit... anxious, I guess. With all the missing girls and all.

Marshall's expression softened, his eyes filled with fake concern.

__Marshall: "You're worried about your safety," he said, his voice low and gentle.

"I understand. It must be scary, thinking about all these girls disappearing out of thin air."

He stepped a bit closer, his hand still gently resting on her arm. The physical contact sent a shiver down Emily's spine.

__Marshall: "You know, I can walk you home if you want," he offered. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you."

Emily looked at him for a moment, her mind racing. Part of her wanted to decline, to tell him she could handle it herself. But another part of her was scared, scared to be alone, scared to be a target. And part of her... part of her wanted him to stay.

__Emily: "Are you sure?" she asked, her voice just above a whisper. "I don't want to trouble you...

Marshall smiled gently, his eyes never leaving hers.

__Marshall: "It's no trouble at all," he said, his voice still gentle. "I'd feel better knowing you're safe. Besides, I don't mind the extra company."

__Emily: "Okay. Thank you. I would appreciate it. I'll feel safer with you."

Marshall smiled, pleased that his offer had been accepted. He gave her arm a gentle squeeze before letting go.

__Marshall: "Great," he said. "Let's head home, then. You have nothing to worry about as long as I'm with you."

And with that, they began walking down the path, the streetlights casting a soft glow over them. Emily walked beside Marshall, her heart beating a little faster than usual. She tried to focus on the sound of her own footsteps on the pavement, the feel of the cool evening air on her skin, but her mind kept wandering back to the man walking next to her.

Marshall walked beside her silently, hands in his pockets, watching her out of the corner of his eye. He could tell she was uneasy, her body language betraying her.

As they continued walking, he reached out and carefully took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers almost protectively. He knew it was an innocent gesture that could be interpreted as a mere act of comfort and safety, but for him, it was another way to assert his power.

He could feel her small hand in his, the warmth of her fingers against his palm making him feel a twisted sense of satisfaction. He glanced sideways at her, watching her reaction, her expression, the way she tried to appear composed while being in his touch.

Emily felt a small jolt of surprise at the unexpected touch, but she didn't pull her hand away. The warmth of his skin against hers was strangely comforting, and the feel of his fingers twined with hers made her heart beat even faster.

Marshall glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, noting the way her breath caught ever so slightly at his touch. He could sense her reaction, the way her body tensed and then relaxed at his proximity. It amused him how easy it was to get under her skin, how much she trusted him, how much she leaned on him for support. He could hardly contain the wicked glee bubbling inside him in anticipation of what he had planned for the night.

They continued walking in silence, their footsteps a soft rhythm in the quiet night. Every now and then, Marshall would gently squeeze her hand, as if to reassure her that he was there, that she was safe with him. And every time he did, Emily couldn't help but feel a strange mixture of emotions, a blend of gratitude, butterfly, and something that felt like... excitement?

As they neared her house, the streetlights becoming sparse, Marshall turned to her, his grip on her hand slightly tighter.

__Marshall: "Almost there." he said, his voice low and soothing. "Just a few more minutes and you'll be home safe and sound."

Marshall could sense her conflict, her reluctance to let go. But he didn't call her out on it, didn't mention the way she held onto his hand. Instead, he simply kept his grip tight, his eyes fixed on her face as they finally arrived at her doorstep.

Emily turned to him, their eyes meeting in the dim light. She could see the hint of a smile on his lips, and it made her heart skip a beat. She could hardly believe that a three months ago, he was just a stranger she met at the store where she works. And now, he was here, standing in front of her house, holding onto her hand as if he didn't want to let go either.

Emily forced herself to speak, to break the silence that had stretched into a loaded pause.

__Emily: "Thank you. For walking me home, I mean. It... it really means a lot. I appreciate she said, her voice coming out a bit breathless."

Marshall's eyes didn't waver as he continued to hold her gaze. He felt the slight tremors in her hand, the subtle shake in her voice. Even in the dim light, the faint flush on her cheeks was visible. He wanted to prolong the moment, but he knew he had to play it safe for now.

He gave her hand a final, firm squeeze, his touch lingering for a moment longer than necessary. His voice was gruff as he replied, the undertone of feigned casualness not quite masking the deeper, darker feelings beneath.

__Marshall: "Of course. I couldn't let you walk home alone, especially with everything that's been happening lately." he said, his eyes not leaving hers

Emily nodded, her heart still fluttering wildly in her chest. The sudden release of his grip left her feeling a bit disoriented, but she tried to hide it. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, looking anywhere but at Marshall.

Marshall watched her, his eyes tracing her every movement. He could sense her nervousness, her flustered state. It amused him how easily he could affect her, how much power he held over her emotions. He knew he had to be careful, to play it cool. But inside, he was reveling in his success, in the control he held over her.

He stepped closer, his presence suddenly looming over her. She glanced up, her eyes widening slightly as his face was now only inches away from hers. His voice was just a murmur, barely reaching her ears.*

__Marshall: "You sure you'll be able to sleep alone tonight? After all, there's a killer on the loose."

Emily stiffened at his closeness, her heart rate increasing. His proximity was intoxicating, the words he spoke making her shiver. She tried to force a composed expression, but the slight tremble in her voice betrayed her.

__Emily: "I... I'll be fine," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll lock my doors and windows, I'll be safe."

Marshall nodded slowly, his lips tilting into a slight smile. He leaned in a little closer, his face now mere inches away from hers. She could feel his breath on her skin, sending a shiver down her spine. He raised a hand ever so gently, his thumb brushing against her cheek, his fingers tracing a soft path down her jawline.

And then, without warning, his lips grazed against hers, a soft, brief touch that sent fireworks through her body. Her eyes widened in surprise, but before she could react, he pulled back, a smirk playing on his lips.

__Marshall: "Goodnight," he said, his voice a low whisper in the night air. "Sleep tight."

He gave her one last, lingering look before taking a step back. She just stood there, completely stunned. Before she could say anything, he turned and sauntered away, leaving her standing alone on her doorstep, her brain trying to catch up with what just happened.

Emily couldn't move, her mind spinning from the unexpected kiss. She could still feel the ghost of his touch on her skin, could still taste the faint sweetness of his breath. Her lips tingled as if he had branded her with a permanent reminder of his presence.

She stood there, watching his retreating form in a daze. Her hand involuntarily went to her lips, touched lightly over the place where his mouth had just been. She could still feel the faintest pressure, the warm, gentle touch of his lips against hers. Her mind was spinning, her heart pounding in her chest.

She was completely dumbfounded by the unexpected gesture, surprised that he would kiss her like that, out of the blue. And yet, underneath the surprise, was a strange flutter, a warm feeling she couldn't deny.

Her head was spinning, her mind filled with a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts. What just happened? Why did he kiss her? What did it mean? And more importantly, why did she like it so much?

As Marshall walked away, his smile grew wider with every step he took. He had finally done it. He had kissed her. He could almost hear her heart stuttering in her chest, taste her surprise and confusion in the air. It was all going exactly as he had planned. But most of all, that single kiss had given him something else. A sense of control, a knowledge that he had her entirely in the palm of his hand.
