Chapter 4 - A Second Chance

Kaito blinked, disoriented. "Am I dead?" he wondered aloud. He remembered the crushing weight of the giant male statue's foot. Opening his eyes, he heard a girl's voice calling his name.

"Kaito Liu."

He looked up and saw a beautiful girl with large heart-shaped sunglasses standing before him. He was dumbfounded. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice shaky.

"You can call me the Book Witch, Guardian of the LitRPG novel with the Infinite Harem System," she replied with a serene smile.

Kaito's mind raced. "B-Book Witch? G-Guardian? Where am I?"

"This is the inner world of the LitRPG novel with the Infinite Harem System," she explained calmly.

"I-Inner world?! Novels have inner worlds?" Kaito's confusion deepened.

"Yes, but this world only manifests from LitRPG novels with the Infinite Harem System," the Book Witch said, pointing behind him. "Take a look."

Kaito turned around and gasped. Thousands of bookcases filled with novels stretched as far as he could see. "That's a lot of books," he murmured.

"Yes, and they are all LitRPG novels with the Infinite Harem System from across the omniverse," she explained.

Kaito turned back to the Book Witch, his eyes wide. "O-Omniverse?! All those novels!"

"Yes, every LitRPG novel with the Infinite Harem System that gets written manifests here. Even if the book is destroyed or no longer exists in the omniverse, it will still exist here," she said, her voice filled with a sense of wonder.

Kaito was lost in thought. "So what am I doing here? Am I dead?"

The Book Witch's expression softened. "Hmm… you could say so, but you could also say you're getting a second chance."

"A second chance, for what?" Kaito asked, his curiosity piqued.

"To save your world," she replied simply.

"Huh?! I'm sure there are a lot of powerful adventurers capable of doing that and… I'm already 30 years old… There's nothing I can do except enter level 1 to 4 dungeons. Even Haruto has already surpassed me, and he's only 18 years old," Kaito said, his voice tinged with regret.

Suddenly, Kaito remembered Haruto. "H-Haruto… Is Haruto alive like me?"

The Book Witch's expression turned somber. "I'm sorry, he is already dead."

Kaito's heart sank, and he became sad. The Book Witch smiled gently. "That's why you're being given a second chance."

Kaito's eyes widened in shock. "Do you mean…"

"Yes, but this is a one-time reset. We can reset your life to before you entered the dungeon. That's all we can do," she explained.

Kaito got up from his chair, determination in his eyes. "T-Then I accept it. I will do anything to save Haruto, no matter what."

The Book Witch smirked. "Then, I will give you a system. Please accept it."

Suddenly, a system notification appeared in front of Kaito.

System Notification: Do you accept the Infinite Harem Systems?

YES NO

Without hesitation, Kaito chose yes.

An interface appeared before him.

Kaito Liu stared in disbelief at the interface. The notifications kept coming, each one more surreal than the last.

... (continues infinitely)

The messages continued to flood in, each promising an endless array of companions from various fantastical worlds.

His heart raced as he realized the magnitude of his newfound power. Not only could he summon an infinite number of beautiful girls, but he could also draw them from an infinite series of LitRPG novels. The possibilities were beyond his wildest dreams.

The interface glowed with a soft, ethereal light, casting a magical aura around Kaito. He could almost feel the presence of the countless characters waiting to be summoned. Each notification brought with it a sense of anticipation and excitement, as if the very fabric of reality was bending to his will.

Kaito's mind raced with thoughts of the adventures and experiences that awaited him. He imagined the diverse personalities, skills, and stories each girl would bring. The sheer variety was overwhelming, yet thrilling. He knew that with this power, his life would never be the same again.

As the notifications continued to scroll, Kaito took a deep breath, ready to embrace the extraordinary journey that lay ahead. The world of infinite possibilities was now at his fingertips, and he was eager to explore every corner of it.

Then he lost consciousness.

Kaito opened his eyes. He was in his bedroom, surrounded by the peaceful sight of his twenty girlfriends still sleeping. He glanced at his alarm clock; it was 6:30 AM. Taking a deep breath, he whispered to himself, "I'm back."

Memories of what had happened to him, Haruto, Hardi, Cedonia, and Juniper flooded his mind. Determined, he got up from his bed and walked to the sitting room. He headed towards the balcony door. He opened it and stepped outside, taking in the sprawling view of Neo-Tokyo.

The city was just waking up, the early morning light casting a golden hue over the skyscrapers. The distant hum of traffic and the chirping of birds filled the air. Tears welled up in his eyes as he looked at the cityscape. "I'm alive. I'm alive," he cried, the relief and joy overwhelming him.

He took a moment to calm himself, wiping away the tears with the back of his hand. "There's still time before I meet Haruto," he reminded himself, a sense of urgency mingling with his relief. He knew he had to act quickly to change the future.

A sly grin spread across his face as he looked back towards his bedroom. "You know what I'm thinking, right? There are 20 beautiful girls inside my bedroom," he thought, smirking as he glanced at an imaginary audience. The thought brought a brief moment of levity to his otherwise heavy heart.

With a lighthearted laugh, Kaito turned and walked back inside, ready to face the new day with renewed determination. He knew he had a second chance, and he was determined to make the most of it, not just for himself, but for Haruto and everyone else who had been lost. As he moved through his apartment, he felt a new sense of purpose. This time, he would be ready.
