Chapter 17 - Love and hate are two sides of the same coin.

Chapter song: Some - Steve Lacy

The decision to have Saint Ambracia play a match with East Laurence had finally been decided and Agares didn't know how to take this information. The match was set to happen in five weeks in order to give each team time to prepare.

"We've decided on our team," Serene said, as she smiled at Agares who's face remained impassive.

They were currently gathered in the student council room, and only the president and vice presidents of each school were present at the moment.

"We will host a martial arts match, more specifically, taekwondo."

Agares narrowed his eyes as he stared at her. "We were led to believe it would be a regular sports match."

Serene's smile grew wider. "Yes, that's what we had decided on initially, but we figured a friendly spar would be more exciting and would prove more of a challenge for each school."

Epaphras, who was sitting on Agares' side, frowned. This was clearly some sort of ploy to get them to lose and he couldn't believe how obvious they were being about it.

For those who aren't in the know, Avondale, one of the most affluent cities in Lacadea, housed two of the most prestigious high schools in the country, each known for their various skills and talents. East Laurence Preparatory School was widely known for its excellent athletics, and equally excellent academics, but what made East Laurence standout the most was its inclusivity in regards to all subjects and ways of life. That also included all forms of arts and any other career that could lead you to a successful life.

Saint Ambracia Academy on the other hand, while still brilliant, was also known for academics, but more importantly its martial prowess.

The founder of the school was a talented woman who both enjoyed sports and enjoyed studying. She had also wished to attend a school that prioritized both and knowing how limited those options for women were, especially for high achieving girls who hailed from prominent families, she decided to create her own school that would welcome any woman talented and gifted enough to juggle both. So Epaphras suspecting this was some kind of ploy in order to get them to win wasn't completely unfounded.

Though Saint Ambracia did have sports teams, they were nowhere near East Laurence's level. The fact that they even offered to have a friendly game was already odd enough, but now things were finally starting to fall in place. Saint-Ambracia Academy intended to win and they were aware of the fact that East Laurence wasn't as skilled in martial arts compared to them.

Epaphras couldn't help shaking his head at how underhanded they were being, and this action didn't go unnoticed by RaeLynn, the vice president of the student council at Saint- Ambracia.

"Do you have a problem with this decision, Kane?" She asked him.

"No not at all, though I can't help but wonder why you guys didn't decide on the sport when the proposal was first introduced." He said, his voice calm and composed.

RaeLynn was about to interject, but Serene raised her hand in order to stop her. "People are allowed to change their minds are they not?" She asked him.

"Yes under normal circumstances, but this is clearly—"

"Enough. We have heard your decision and we accept it. Let us end this meeting as I'm sure you all have busy schedules." Agares and Epaphras left the room without looking back, leaving the two in the room by themselves.

"Ugh I hate how arrogant those pricks are!" RaeLynn exclaimed now that they were alone.

"C'mon RaeLynn, they aren't that bad." She said with a smile.

"They are! Agares especially. He only spoke a few words, barely acknowledged our presence, and dismissed the meeting on his own."

"I think the fact that he's a man of few words adds to his charm. Besides, this meeting was a little last minute on our side."

"I really don't understand your taste at all, or anyone for that matter. Everyone goes gaga for him whenever he's around. I mean I get that he's handsome but he's not the kind of guy I'd risk it all for. I just don't understand what that girl was thinking. Ruining her future over a man is…"

Serene stayed there quietly listening to RaeLynn's ramblings. The smile she once had on her lips disappeared as she recalled the event of that day.

"She really ruined everything." She mumbled to herself.

"Anyway, let's not dwell on the past too much. We finally have a match set with East Laurence and it'll be a match where our victory is guaranteed so let's focus our energy on that." She said while getting up.

"Agreed. I can't wait to crush those arrogant pricks and to see the look of disappointment on Ainslewood's face." RaeLynn said, an evil smile on her face.

"Silas Ainslewood? But he doesn't practice taekwondo?" Serene said with a raised eyebrow.

"That's fine. The taekwondo team losing against us is still a loss to him even if he's not playing."

Serene shook her head. "I thought you liked Silas?" She asked her incredulously.

"It's a love-hate relationship."

Serene raised her brows. "How so?"

"It's simple. I love seeing his beautiful face, especially when he has that playful smile tugging at his lips, but I also hate to see him look happy." She shrugged.

"Isn't that a little psychotic?" Serene retorted.

"I never claimed to be sane. Plus, you have no right to judge me since you don't actually like Agares." RaeLynn said.

"That's not true. I care for him a lot." She said with a smile.

"Sure you do~"

"Enough with your musings. Let's get back to campus and discuss everything with the rest of the girls." She said while dusting off her skirt.

"Do you think Headmaster Rhealis will agree to all of this?" RaeLynn asked, sounding skeptical.

"Of course he will, what reason does he have to refuse? What happened in the past is no longer an issue. He'd be a fool to pass such an important opportunity up." She smiled, though it didn't reach her eyes.

"I guess you're right."

"I'm always right RaeLynn, never forget that. And I always get what I want,"

"No matter what." She mumbled to herself.
