Chapter 3 - The goth

But with luck already proving to be against him, all he could do was to ponder on their conversation in further detail, trying to see if he could come up with contingency plans if these were ever needed:

***

—What did you hire him for, anyways? —Stella seemed intrigued—.

Despite her prolonged surveillance of Arturo, Stella remained ignorant of many aspects of his life. His rendezvous with Octavia, including the night they spent together, seemed like ordinary dates to Stella, causing her to be unaware of Arturo's role as a guard. Beyond Arturo's revelations during their confrontation, Stella's understanding of his life remained superficial, further highlighting the curse's extraordinary influence on its victims.

—Well, dad was the one who did. He then tried to fire him, so I rehired him again.

—That doesn't really answer my question- —To protect her from you. —Arturo interrupted—.

Despite the sudden turn of events, the hellhound did have some resentment against Stella –after all, he only went with the relationship idea in order to protect his own skin against her insanity; one he based upon Stolas' and Octavia's previous experiences. Compared to Octavia –someone who he actually was getting attached to at least; he had no reason to hold back or let them settle it on their own. Furthermore, Arturo felt like Octavia deserved some closure, taking her side for now.

—Did you really- —Stella turned to see Octavia, baffled—.

—Yes, I did. —Octavia interrupted Stella—. Mom, you tried to kill dad!

Stella flinched, sad and even embarrassed.

—But I would never hurt you!

It was visible how Stella felt about her daughter –her hand trying to reach Octavia's while Arturo simply observed in silence.

He still had to figure out how he would handle the relationship and truly wanted to make it work for them. After all, not doing so is what placed him in this situation to begin with.

Dating a mother and her daughter, who clearly had their unresolved conflicts surfacing, all while not sure of his own feelings. All he prayed for now was for it to be manageable.

—What am I even trying to do… —Arturo talked to the empty apartment—.

He looked at his phone while the microwave cooked him a re-heated pizza, messages from Stella and Octavia already clogging his notifications. Octavia's were as expected: A good morning message followed by emojis and cute stickers. Now all of them ending with a brief "love you!".

Stella's were something else: A morning message followed by a spiced-up selfie and an adult joke. Finishing off with a real-time complaint about being lazy and using the microwave instead of cooking.

"Stop stalking me already!" Arturo screamed internally.

And for the following minutes he wondered if he should be taking the lead –remembering how that was one of the reasons why Amelia felt abandoned, since she was always the one coming up with suggestions of going out or spending time together and not him.

Then again, he also asked them to work on their own relationship as a family first; so perhaps it would turn wise to let them work things out for now and settle the relationship later.

With these thoughts in mind; he quickly created a group conversation ironically called "Arturo's harem" to then be reminded how actions have consequences:

Stella: « Looks like someone is already getting into it. »

Octavia: « Wait, does this mean you want more? »

Stella: « I wonder if all hellhounds are like this. »

Goes without saying that he quickly regret the idea as he tried to explain things out once again on how we wanted them to "get along" for everyone's sake, the title being a joke and that if this was going to be a thing; every party had to take it seriously from now on.

To his own merit, it showed him as a responsible partner and a caring lover –and bought him some time to figure stuff out on his own too.

Maybe if he talked to someone who already has dealt with royalty.

And there he was, back on that building at imp city where he met the prince. Vortex was unavailable, so his best bet was to finally meet "Blitz"; The imp Stolas cheated Stella with, and surely the most capable and experienced in dealing with both of them since he was at the middle of their drama –or so Arturo hoped.

The I.M.P offices. Right in front of Verosika's label.

Memories of the events that unfolded flooded his mind before opening the door.

Only once he saw Blitzo and it was that very day when he met Stolas. Furthermore, being with Octavia at all times meant they never get to meet at the palace, so at this rate he felt like he was reaching for straws, but that was better than doing nothing.

"Kling, klong" A bell tied to the door made its sound.

The place was somewhat kept. A big couch, an empty fish tank, a water dispenser; everything you would come to expect from any reception or lobby. All while voices in the distance could be heard but quickly shut up as a response to the bells ringing.

—Hello? —Arturo asked out loud—.

—Oh… Welcome to I.M.P sir. —Moxxie was the first to exit the meeting room—. My name is Moxxie, who do you want dead?

—What? No. I'm here to see- uh… Blitzy? It's about prince Stolas.

—I see. —Moxxie looked back, hesitant about his next action—.

—It won't take long, I prom-

—Moxx! If you don't get your ass back here! —Blitzo shouted—.

—Sorry, Sir. We are actually on our way to carry on a job right now. —Moxxie began to walk backwards—. Just leave your contact information with our hellhound.

And just like that, Moxxie left Arturo speechless as he ran back into the room, followed by a noise he knew well; a portal opening and closing. Curiosity got the best of him as he approached. Opening the door gently as he looked around.

—Lost something? —A female voice, sounded unimpressed—-.

—S-Sorry! I was just-

It took a moment to click, but Arturo knew he had to act quickly as soon as it did. The hellhound Moxxie was talking about was the same he met that same day.

The plan was simple, give her his contact information, reject any advances and never see her again to avoid the curse settling down. If Stella; someone he never interacted with, was able to be enchanted the same way as Octavia –it was obvious this could mean danger for both if he didn't work out that quirk first.

—Just wanted to leave my phone number. —Arturo continued—.

Loona looked up and as expected her expression changed. It was like watching sparks build up around him that simply made his eyes shine brighter than usual, even when his face was of pure anxiety and panic from the sheer necessity of doing things in a hasty manner.

—Oh! Shit, sure dude! I mean, they are not coming back for a while, we could talk a little. —Loona's tone was all over the place—.

She tried fixing her hair, sit differently, correct her posture and even her clothes.

—I-I really need to get going. —Arturo stuttered—. My girlfriend- My girlfriends a-are going to worry if I take too long.

Loona blushed in embarrassment; her eyes wide open in surprise.

—Girlfriends… like, more than one… I-I see…

—Yeah, I know. So, is it ok if I just- —Of course!

In what felt like a quick time event of a videogame, both shared contact information and Arturo was quickly out of there.

He could not believe that worked, furthermore he even questioned himself why he never tried doing that all the time before. After all, Arturo wasn't a stranger to lies.

Perhaps the answer would come to him after pondering on it for a while. For now all he had to do was to stay away from other girls-

—Hey, wait, Arturo! —Somehow, Loona interrupted me, the narrator—.

—Yeah? —Arturo turned around—.

—Do you wanna, y'know, hang out sometime?

—Sure. —Arturo didn't sound convinced of the idea—. You could meet my partners and uh-

—Y-Yeah! Sounds great! Not like I wanted it to be… like… just us… I mean! To get to know each other, of course!

Arturo smiled awkwardly as he tried to walk away, Loona still rambling, apologizing and ultimately closing the door in embarrassment. —I'm so fucking stupid… —She said to herself—.

With his plans for the day ruined by bad luck, Arturo went back to his apartment to think if he could figure things out himself.

***

"Let's see." He began his mental monologue while playing videogames. "When this all started, every girl hit at me from the start. Then after meeting Via most girls I never see again; while Octavia and I get closer together. This has to mean either the curse worsens the more time I spend with a girl or it lifts if I'm not there." Arturo was pondering on alternatives to his logic as he finished a level with a great score. "Then, as I spend time with Octavia, other girls stop being interested; but only when I am with her, something that didn't happen when I was with Vortex. I guess only one girl can be afflicted at a time?" Another level is completed as memories of the past came by, this time the score seemed to take a hit. "But then again Stella got afflicted too. She saw me with Octavia, but also spied on me. Was it because I hadn't settled for her? Loona acted almost negatively at me having a relationship. Was her spying on me a factor too? Will Loona get afflicted if we text or meet?" This time Arturo seemed to have trouble finishing the level at all –becoming frustrating as he kept trying.

It felt like facing a wall, both in-game and real life. Could he ever have a normal life again? Was there a way to lift the curse? But a bigger question lurked in the dark; one he tried to deny… Will he hurt them by lifting it?

It was somewhat curious to him how, at one point, he had fantasized about having many women for himself. But faced with the reality, he suddenly developed a conscience and wanted to do the right thing. Irony didn't suffice to describe it all, especially when the one thing he refused to think back on were his own feelings.

Then a message from his harem.

Octavia: « Dad's going to be busy today, wanna hang out? »

Stella: « I am also free for the day. Maybe a cup of tea. »

Arturo was still waiting to see if Blitzo would call him back, so he wondered about agreeing. If they had to meet it would be awkward to leave them; specially Stella given the Stolas' situation. Then again, being alone had also been feeling like a bad idea. « Sure. » He replied. And everyone agreed on meeting at the Stone Statue Café –rebranded for obvious reasons.

A final glance at his phone revealed a couple of messages pilling up from Loona's number –unfortunately nothing about Blitzo, but he did fear that even these kind of one-sided interactions could translate into the curse courting Loona without him even trying, much like it happened with Stella.

And in the blink of an eye, Arturo was at the café, sitting across from Octavia and Stella who both looked impossibly beautiful. All of his worries disappearing just by looking at them like one looks at a work of art.

Stella wore a similar dress to that from the other night while Octavia wore more casual clothing. Once again each outfit helped bring their own personalities forward in a unique and feminine way.

Arturo simply admired them for a while, increasing the girl's embarrassment with each second of silence that passed by.

—Y-You could just say it… —Octavia murmured—.

—You look amazing, both of you.

—Of course we do sweetie. We're Goetia. —Stella pampered herself but her blushing exposed her excitement—.

But once everyone was settled at the table, Arturo's mind started to drive itself away from the scene and into deep thinking, leaving both girls to wonder for a while if the date was overall a good idea.

—Welcome! Are you ready to order? —A waitress came in—.

—Oh, yeah. I would like a cup of Lavender tea, please. —Octavia went first to order—.

—Make mine honey, and he wants Maca tea please. —Stella continued—.

Arturo's late reaction had him simply agreeing to Stella's choice.

—Maca tea? Never heard of that one. —Arturo said, attempting to break the silence and ease the growing tension he build himself—.

—I learned a couple of things from Stolas. He does know his plants.

—Dad never told be about that one. What does it do?

—Increases the libido.

Arturo was speechless. "How is that supposed to help!"

—I figured Arturo must be worried about our relationship and status as Goetia. As his partners we should show our commitment and ease his spirit.

—Stella continued—.

"And who told you that was the answer?!" He wanted to scream.

—Your idea of going out was very on point too, sweetie.

—W-Would that help Art? It wasn't our intent to cause you any problems… —Octavia blushed—.

—N-No! Really, I am fine! Seriously! —Arturo tried to calm things down—. And my libido is most certainly fine too.

—Oh, wonderful! Then we can go to your place after this.

"I didn't mean it like that! Lucifer all mighty!"

—D-Do you want that, Arturo? —Octavia hugged herself in shame—.

—It's fine, sweetie. You should save yourself for another day. Young virgins are especially unique; I'm sure he would much more rather have you at a special day or event.

Octavia's eyes glittered as her mother explained to her. Arturo still wanted Stella to stop. "No! I don't want that! She's still too young! Who raised you?!"

—Can we just have our tea? —Arturo tried to rescue the conversation—.

—I mean, having our tea is part of the idea. —Stella shrug it off—.

—I was talking about only having tea!

—You know, your stubbornness towards intimacy worries me. Are we not attractive enough? —Stella looked confused—.

—Trust me, you are more than just attractive. I just think that we should take our time first.

—I-I turn eighteen in August… if that's what you are waiting for… B-but I don't mind if you take my mom first!

"I'm not waiting for that either! I am waiting to find how to lift off this curse!"

—Not what I meant either.

—Very well. We shall wait then. —Stella concluded—. Just remember that is also unhealthy to hold back.

"Wait, it is?!"

***

Eventually Arturo was able to shift the conversation and everyone drank their tea peacefully. Thankfully, Maca tea was also a good antidepressant and anxiety reducer so he was able to get some positive effects from it either way –only crying internally that he had turned them down for a second time now. After all, he was still a man.

Arturo was also glad that in less than a day Octavia and Stella seemed to be fine with each other; even if he was the catalyst of that apparent peace. He had no doubts both probably still felt someone troubled with each other regardless, but without them telling him directly –there was no way to know.

He truly had scored two of a kind. Octavia with her shy and insecure persona and Stella a straightforward adult. To some extent he even found adorable how Via would do and agree with whatever Stella did, almost like taking lessons from her, but he was also worried with how overly erotic Stella was. Product of the curse? Her upbringing as a Goetia?

A strange wish to spice Octavia and tame down Stella overpowered his fantasies, but were suppressed by the appeal of their authenticity.

Arturo wondered what would be the authentic version of himself. If just like they were working hard for him, he did so too for them; even if for a little while –give them their best time until he could cure them.

—What about a movie, ladies?

—Yes! A movie! —Octavia sounded excited—.

—Of course, a movie. —Stella sounded aroused—.

—A movie, yes. With no funny ideas. —Arturo stared at Stella—.

If they wanted a date, he would give them a date.

Back at Arturo's apartment they had bought popcorn, drinks and more, watched a regular romantic action movie featuring Bruce Willis called "The fifth element". After that, they spent the night peacefully on the same sofa, with Arturo cuddled in the middle after a small confrontation between mother and daughter over who should sleep closest to him.

A discussion that didn't matter –not because of the expected middle ground result, but for the unsurprising morning scene with everyone all over the poor couch that turned into Arturo's bed after both Octavia and Stella had woken up to make breakfast. The smell finally knocking on Arturo's doors.

—Morning! —Both said in a single voice—.

—Mor-ning? —He was a little confused at them—.

Not only were they cooking, they were wearing aprons, using all sorts of utensils he knew for a fact he didn't have, and the food was not from his refrigerator as most of its contents were frozen foods and forgotten dishes from previous days. His curiosity was peaked before he could blink.

—How-

—It was Octavia's idea. Had to bring some things from my place when we found out you didn't have much.

—I thought I paid you well! —She seemed rather angry, but her blush made it look embarrassed instead—.

—I- kinda spent it on other things…

Those other things being games, subscriptions to streaming services and other online purchases –making the food budget rely on fast food that undeveloped into instant noodles and then portions of them as the next pay check got closer and closer.

—Well, now you are not going to be getting paid so I recommend you move with me or find a new job. —Stella replied—.

—Or with me! B-But dad can't find out…

—I don't think that's really possible Via. And I appreciate the offer but I rather stay here.

Arturo felt guilty once more. If he was able to lift the curse or something went south; living with either of them like using them more than he already was. That included getting any form of financial support.

He just needed to find the correct wording to convince them.

—I'll try to get a new job and fix this place up for us. —He continued—. Call me old school if you want.

—A traditionalist, I like you more every day. —Stella complemented him—.

—I-If that's what you want. I support you! —Octavia smiled from cheek to cheek—.

—Thank you, girls. —Arturo paused for a second—. It means a lot.

The atmosphere was once again at peace. With Arturo pondering once more how he would continue going forward –at least until breakfast was ready and everyone was eager to take a bite.

—I have to say. I didn't expect this at all, it all smells amazing.

—Part of being royalty is getting specially focused education, my love.

—Yup! Even dad knows how to cook! Kitchen staff is mostly for parties and big banquets.

Looking at the food, it was obvious their training was top notch. Not only could he not recognize anything they did, but the smells were also new to him. And the taste was totally unique as well.

—Delicious!

Stella and Octavia smiled with pride while Arturo devoured everything.

"Each dish is better than the last! My stomach feels so loved! I can't go back from this; all now tastes like trash in comparison!" His mind numbed with pleasure.

—Oh! I forgot! —Octavia seemed exalted—. I know where you can work!

Arturo simply looked at her with his mouth full.

—I have a friend that works as a receptionist for my dad's boyfriend. They can probably use you; they've done guard work for us before. Her name is Loona. I'll send you her number!

Just as he was in paradise, hell was back as he choked on a piece of bread.

—R-Really, Via? —Arturo tried to talk—. D-Don't you think it could be a bad idea to associate with him though?

—Because of me? —Stella interrupted—. I couldn't care less. Now that I have you; what that man does is beyond my interest.

—C'mon. What about all you said about fixing this place up, then?

"That's not the problem! I am the problem! I curse others like I did to you!" Arturo wanted to say.

—Y-You're right, Via. I did say that…

—Good! I already sent her your number as well!

"I don't like where this is going…"

***

It took a while for Loona to read Octavia's message, given that Loona wasn't a morning person herself. But crisis ensured when Loona had the expected reaction.

« Wait, he is your boyfriend? He's the one dating you and your mom? The guy you kept talking about all day? »

« Yeah! You know each him? I thought you said you didn't know anyone named Arturo. »

« I mean, not really know him, no; but sort of? »

« So you can hire him then, right?! »

« Via, I don't think it's going to be that easy. Besides he'll be working for Blitz. You know, the one your dad has an affair with? »

« He had the same worries, lol. But it's fine, mom said she doesn't

care. »

Octavia found the conversation amusing. Didn't question how or when did they meet or what the deal was between the two. So much so in fact, that she showed the conversation to Arturo, who fade to pale.

She probably knew everything and was now piecing it all together. If he landed that job, who knows what kind of conflict could arise if things got out of hand. Loona might even try to join the relationship. Even worse, how would Via and Stella react to that? Stella would most likely get mad at him for cheating like Stolas did, and Octavia would probably hate him. Okay, maybe Octavia was still a wildcard, but he wasn't ready to find out either.

---

"And so, the narrator gave Arturo a step-by-step guide on how to avoid conflict."

And ruin the surprise? This is payback for interrupting me.

"Interrupting?! When?!"

Your friend Loona, didn't you notice?

"O-Oh, yeah of course I did." —He didn't—.

You didn't.

"Oh for fuck's sake-"

---

And after being interrupted by the narrator, Arturo understood that whatever was going to happen, would happen one way or the other. So says the chapter's name.

« If you say so, Via. »

« Thank u! »

Loona's feelings went awry. The conflicting nature between her friendship with Octavia and her interest in Arturo mixing like water and oil. She wanted to work with him at all costs but she didn't want to risk her friendship.

Then again, sharing him with her own mother could be reason enough to think Octavia would also be willing to share Arturo with her. She just had to convince Arturo in any case, and if Via could, she could probably do so as well –and what better way than sharing time as co-workers. All she had to do was voice the idea to Blitzo in a way that he couldn't say no.

But Loona knew there was no need for a guard at the office, and from what Octavia had told her; that was his gig. He would either have to replace her (something Blitzo had already threaten her with), or work as part of the murder team –in both scenarios there would be little time shared without the others interrupting. Worse yet when she considered Blitzo's overprotective nature over her –as soon as he smell romance it would be over.

She'll have to come up with something else.

***

That same day, at the I.M.P offices, Loona tried her luck:

—Hey, Blitz. Can we talk? —Loona's voice was uneven—.

Blitzo; the imp, was jumping out of a portal just as she asked – interrupting him as he closed it with a mysterious stone he carried on his glove.

Lucky for her, no one else was at the office. Moxxie and Millie were away on personal affairs.

—Uh? Talk? —He sounded surprised but also confused—. Sure

Loonie, what is it?

Curiosity shined in his eyes. Loona would usually only talk when talked to and she rarely asked for attention from anyone unless necessary –but it was also true that she had been opening up some more as of late. Blitzo expected this to be one of those moments.

—Remember Octavia?

—Yeah, Stolas' kid. What about? —His voice shifted to discomfort—.

Not long ago, when he got the gem to open portals; an Asmonean crystal, Blitzo also had a little altercation with Stolas. That was eventually resolved, but ever since it happened, he had been worried about making further mistakes.

—Her boyfriend is looking for work. He's a hellhound and-

Loona interrupted herself for a second, remembering Arturo's visit and how he wanted to talk to Blitz in the first place.

—Sure! —Blitzo accepted unhesitant—.

—W-Wait, really?

—Sure!

She couldn't believe it, not a single roadblock. It was too good to be true. What she didn't realize was that the reason he accepted so quick was the result of quick guesses and assumptions: Another Goetia dating a commoner, Stolas' daughter too –to him it was safe to think that Stolas knew of their relationship, approved of it and therefore by helping this hellhound he would prove to Stolas as a reliable partner once more.

The keyword being approved.

***

—You haven't told him?! —Arturo was in total panic—.

—Should I tell him?

—Not really. —Stella brought insight—. If he knows, I am certain he will try boycotting our relationship, worse if he knows about my involvement. But if he doesn't then he can't stand in our way at all.

—I… guess… —Arturo still looked troubled—.

—Don't worry Art. If anything happens we will protect you! —Via intercepted with a hug—. As long as no one tells on us, we are safe.

***

« Got you that job, dude. Come to the office at 9 tomorrow, k? »

Loona sent the message directly to Arturo, as she had his number already.

« Apparently all you needed was a nice girlfriend. »

***

—Well, so much for secrecy I guess. —The trio said in unison—.

—And how did she know?! —Arturo complained—.

—Loona's my best friend, she was first to know. —Octavia got embarrassed—.

Nepotism. You never expect it happening to you. That's how Arturo was once more employed, and in transit to his next venture.

***

The next day, Arturo woke up early; ate some of the leftovers from the day before and took his time to review the situation one last time.

He had already discarded most of his theories about his curse: Being with Octavia helped keeping others away; but Stella still fell in love. He had little contact with Loona so she was probably already enamoured as well; this job would only make it stronger. Rejecting some seemed to help too; but at best it was an unproven theory since he had never met any of those woman twice after the fact.

The only way now was to simply live with whatever happened and try to test further ideas as time went on.

With that in heart and mind he made his way to his new workplace. An office he wished he had never seen, a building he wished he had never walked into.

The door opens, Blitzo and Loona are already waiting for him.

—Hey! Welcome to I.M.P! My name's Blitz and the o is silent.

—G-Good morning, dude.

Blitzo was first to introduce himself, then Loona. The little imp acting hyperactive while reaching for Arturo's hand to hide his stress, while the hellhound gal simply blushed; moving her tail.

—A pleasure to meet you sir. I actually wanted to talk to you before, but you were out. Left my number too.

—Oh! You did?! —Blitzo's smile was creepy and anxious as he looked at Loona—.

—I mean, he did- yes. But since he was coming anyways so I figured… you know… —Loona kept acting embarrassed, then pissed at Blitzo—. Ok, I forgot. Doesn't fucking matters anymore.

—You must forgive our receptionist, who also happens to be my daughter.

"His daughter? I guess she was a stray or something and adopted her." Arturo wondered as he was surprised to hear that.

—Damn, Blitz. —Loona had now fully switched to Blitzo—. Since when are you such a bootlicker?

—I would love to hear the answer to that question too. —A new voice, Moxxie—.

And behind Moxxie was Millie, who also seemed excited to hear the scoop.

—Ye' Boss! You usually telling folk to fuck off instead. —Millie continued—.

—Now, now, everyone. This here is Arturo; he is Octavia's boyfriend. —Blitzo explained slowly—. Who happens to be my boyfriend's daughter. He will be working with us from now on.

—Oh I get it. You are afraid of disappointing Stolas again, aren't you?

—Moxxie mocked him—.

—C'mon Moxx, give him a break. If it wasn't for the prince we wouldn't have this job at all!

—Uh, no? We had a job with the book that he lent Blitz in exchange for sex. Then one day Blitz gives it back, returns with an Asmonean crystal, gets depressed because now he's getting ignored-

—And don't forget the anti-Blitzo party. —Loona interrupted Moxxie—.

—Christ on a stick! Can we move on already?! —Blitzo seemed angry now—. We worked it out and now that is water under the bridge. This is just a favour.

—A favour? To whom exactly? —Moxxie pressed on—.

—To myself. You would understand; Moxxie –if your wife's family didn't think you are such a fucking looser. —Blitzo fought back—.

"Wife?" Arturo wondered, finally realizing Millie was yet to act strangely to his presence, wondering if there was a connection.

At this rate Arturo was simply an observer of a well-crafted exposition scene. Everyone was instead focused on the discussion at hand; except for Loona who was fixated on Arturo instead.

Once it died down, everything returned to normal.

—And how old are you, Arturo? —Blitzo seemed not too interested on him despite being the one asking—.

—28. Turning 29 this year.

—Wait, 28 dating a 17 years old girl? Are you one of those disgusting freaks?

—Wh-What?! No! I haven't even done anything with her! I swear! It's complicated.

—C'mon boss, I am sure there is a reason for them to be dating without the prince himself killing him. —Millie felt like interrupting for his sake—.

—And… I am also dating her mother…

—Shit! Are you serious?! —Blitzo couldn't believe him—. That crazy bitch?! How the fuck did you manage that? Loonie did you know about this?

—Ugh, yeah I did. Why? —Loona seemed bothered—. Now you want me to tell you about everyone's life or what?

—Yeah, nah. I don't give enough fucks for that to be honest. But shit! Anyways. As I was saying, Arturo here will now work with us as part of the assassination team. —Blitzo said proudly—. Loonie did tell me you worked as a guard before, so you will do just that every time we are on earth.

—As of late we have been getting targeted by two humans and some cherubs and we fear they might try something eventually. —Moxxie added—.

—Yeah… I personally don't fear those fuckers but it's better to be safe than sorry. —Blitzo continued spreading his ego—. As for your schedule, there is none. We stay here from 9 to 5, Mondays to Fridays and wait for costumers. Understood?

—Simple enough. Yes. —Arturo agreed—.

—Good, then. Welcome to I.M.P.

—Welcome, Arturo. —Moxxie extended his arm—. I am Moxxie, if you anything gun related feel free to ask.

—Name's Millie, mister! And I am more of a close combat girl myself.

—And I am Loona. But you already knew that… —Loona blushed again—. Anything else you can ask me.

The more Loona acted embarrassed, the more you could feel Blitzo's jealousy building up. He made something up on the spot to distract one from the other.

—Anyway. Today I am seeing a client so everyone can just wait around while they arrive. —Blitzo seemed to try and separate Arturo from Loona—. Loonie you can go to your desk now.

—Really? And how come I didn't know about them? —Loona seemed bothered—.

—Because I met them in person, Loonie.

Loona was good at telling when Blitzo was bullshitting someone. And maybe a little better at telling when he was jealous.

But despite it all, she was still a troubled girl on her own right and struggled with her emotions in her own way –one that always managed to get the best of her.

—Oh, really? Then you don't need me at my desk. —Loona turned a little more passive aggressive—. Might was well show Arturo around.

—Show him what? The meeting room he has seen already and the toilet at the end of the hallway? —Moxxie interrupted again—.

—You shut up, fatty! —Loona shouted—.

—You gotta forgive these idiots, Mr. Arturo. —Millie approached him from behind—. They act like this but we love each other and work as a team when it matters most.

Arturo simply chuckled nervously.

—It's no big deal compared to what I've been through as of late, if you can believe that.

—And I can, hell is one helluva place. —Millie pat him in the back—.

—It really is…

After a while; everything finally settled and it was approved to have Loona show Arturo around the place, explaining to him everything that he needed to know about the work environment.

Blitzo wasn't the most organized individual when it came to keeping tabs on his own business so most of the things she had him take notice of where papers and notes others kept around of either clients, previous jobs or expenses. At one point it was blatant that Blitzo was just the face but none of the muscle.

She told Arturo about the book, how to disguise himself as a human, even some inside knowledge of how Blitzo's persona worked. She was pretty much a walking encyclopaedia of I.M.P.'s history.

The more she talked with him the closer she felt, and the pain of feeling left out also built up. She truly felt in love with him and knowing he was taken was like a dagger hurting her deep within.

Arturo; to his own credit, remained unaware of this pain. Loona was pretty good at masking her emotions and even though she was thrown off at first; the more they spent time together the more natural her behaviour became.

Her blushing subsided, her speech was fluent and her attitude was just as it always had been. A contrasting hue to that of herself back when she met Vortex for the first time and also felt enamoured –and hurt just the same when he mentioned his own girlfriend as well. It was like her luck had decided she would never find love.

But regardless of how she felt or acted, Arturo was still well aware of his curse and was more than conscious about its effects on Loona. You could see him smile, but deep within he had a crushing guilt.

He was starting to like her. She felt genuine, and carefree.

A voice that was feminine and seductive but still strong and imposing. And her figure was too; as if she could either snap your neck or tease you with a revealing dress.

Short but enchanting laughs and jokes that albeit lame, felt sincere.

These growing connections were troubling Arturo the most by now –a full plate of morality and guilt.

Was he truly into Octavia? Could he develop feelings for Stella? Was he now after Loona too? But most important of all; was he willing to use the curse for his own gain now? Or was he under an effect as well?

Once more he said and did nothing. Letting the flow of water follow its curse and take him with it along the ride instead. No matter how much he had this inner monologues, no matter how many times the same questions were made he once more took no action.

« Knock, Knock »

Out of nowhere, someone was behind the door. Moxxie answering

the call.

—Hello, sir. Welcome to I.M.P. —The little imp made a bow—. You give us a name, we deliver payback.

On the other side of the door, a cat-like sinner. He looked tired, wearing a typical blue collar worker's attire. He had narrowed eyes and had a funny accent, but otherwise he looked like any other sinner out there.

He was taken to Blitzo the next second.

—So, Mr. Swan. Who are we killing?

—It's Mr. Zhuan. And I want my supervisor to face death.

—Whatever, Juan. I'm going to need a lot more than that.

The sinner was visible bothered by the mispronouncing of his name, but he pressed on:

—Before I got here, I worked at a factory in the beautiful city of Tianhe. I was then killed by my supervisor's stupidity! We were ordered to work a machine that had been malfunctioning for a while. I was crushed by it! Because they refused to listen to us and fix it first!

The sinner shouted and hissed. Arturo and Loona could hear everything from the other side, followed by an explanation of how it was common to have this occur. Many sinners come with revenge on their mind so they lash out their stories constantly.

—Worst of all! —The sinner continued while Blitzo dozed off; bored—. They blamed my friend! He also warned them; instead they blame him. Xue most pay!

—Well, that's capitalism for you.

—We are communists! —Once again Zhuan felt offended—.

—That's even better. Just wait a couple of weeks, he'll die too.

—I have waited long enough. —The sinner pulled out some cash—. Blitzo was quick to grab it and count it.

—Of course, we can always speed up the process. Just head up to my receptionist and she will take on your contact information. We will notify you once he's dead.

—If you can, have him die the same way. Let it be poetic justice.

—Hey, I got ya'.

Seconds after the departure of Mr. Zhuan, everyone was reunited once more.

—Well, everyone. —Blitzo announced—. Since this is Arturo's first, I want to take everyone to our next job. That means M&M.

—M and… M? Like the chocolate? —Arturo raised an eyebrow—-.

—Like what now? —Blitzo sounded confused—. No, it means Millie and Moxxie. What chocolate is called with such a stupid name?

—Oh, well. You see… —Arturo felt like he said a little too much—. Via told me a little about her first time on the mortal realm and how you rescued her –and how ever since that, she goes there for a quick runaway, sometimes getting stuff from there back to here. That's how she got some chocolate with "M&M" in the package. I decided not to try it, but apparently is good.

—Wait, she goes back there after what happened?! —Blitzo sounded worried—.

—Yeah, Loona taught her, apparently.

—You did?! —Blitzo's sweating intensified—.

—Hey, at least she can return by herself now. She's not getting lost; and you are not getting blamed. —Loona added—. She even learned how to disguise too.

In fact, that was what troubled Blitzo as soon as he heard Arturo's explanation. He had the book all that time she was probably world-hopping. But Loona's addendum helped him calm back down swiftly.

—Anyways; the job is simple and Mr. Swan or whatever, already paid. —Blitzo returned to the topic at hand—. So although this feels overkill, better to show Arturo here a job well done as a first impression. —Because all of our jobs are well done… —Fuck you Moxxie.

Hours passed and before he could realize it, Arturo was back at his apartment. Already receiving texts from Octavia, Stella and now Loona as well; checking up on his first day at his new job.

To Octavia and Stella, he was a little hesitant but the group chat proved useful once more:

Octavia: « Art! How was your first day? I wanted to ask Loona but I figured it was better to ask you first ⊂ ((・▽・)) ⊃ »

« It was… something. Learned a lot of things I didn't need to learn.

That's for sure. »

Octavia: « lol. Did Loona say anything about us? Did you say anything about us? >(///) < »

« I did, about us three. » Stella: « I bet that lousy imp shit himself. »

While this conversation continued, Arturo went back and forth with Loona as well:

« Excited for your first hit? »

« From what Via told me of earth? I guess so. She said it was worse than hell. » «To some extent I suppose. All those people end up for a reason. And what about us? »

« I think the answer to that question is still cooking. But something tells me your dad already has one for me. »

« Don't worry about him, as long as you do your job you will be fine, trust me. »

« I don't think he's worried about that. »

« Oh… that. He's like that with every guy I talk to. You'll get used to it. What? Stolas isn't? »

« Let's just say he is, but not talk about it. » «Fuck, dude. I get why you're worried now, lol. »

Both conversations continued through the night. Loona shared with Arturo some brief examples and explanations of how jobs got carried out and even gave him her perspective on the day Octavia had run away; as well as known enemies like Striker, Agents 1 and 2, The CHERUBs, etc. Pretty much the whole story of the company and who to watch out for.

She also shared with him the disguise spell; since neither M&M or Blitzo used it, having a human-looking bait was a good trick to keep.

« I can teach you how to use it after the hit. Takes time to get the hang of it. »

« Thanks Loona. And you can just call me Arturo. » « I like dude more, dude. »

As for the one with Via and Stella; it went on a tangent shortly after about the mortal realm. There, Arturo learned that Stella was unaware of Via's little escapades as well as the rescue mission.

It was clear how little Octavia trusted Stella with her personal life, and how if kept unchecked; it could affect things going forward. Showing more of Arturo's bias towards Via.

—Ok, the client sent me an image of how everything looks like and where everything is. —Blitzo updated everyone—. Loonie, daddy will be right back.

Saying so, Blitzo opened a portal with his glove. Moxxie, Millie, Arturo and himself jumping through.

—Neat trick uh? —Blitzo showed off—.

—Have to admit, they look fairly different from the ones I'm used

to.

—And what is the plan, sir? —Followed Moxxie—.

—Well, with Arturo with us I thought we can sneak into this dude's office, get something with his sent and track him down.

—And what about the machine?

—Well, you see Moxxie. Once we find him we just tie him up and throw him to it or something.

—Assuming that's how it works.

While the two imps argued about the details, they eventually reached the supervisor's office. From there they simply carried out the plan.

Arturo followed the scent, found him in a locker room with a coworker, the imps took out the coworker (she was a witness) and tied him up.

An effortless job with everyone involved –with everyone returning shortly after without a single scratch.

—Well done everyone. And nice tracking Arturo. —Blitzo praised them—. And as always, fuck you Moxx for not trusting me.

—I must say this was a first for you not ruining things. —Moxxie joked—.

The following days were like a montage of different jobs for Arturo. Most of them going as planned, while others diverting to improvisation or messing around with the humans.

Between what Moxxie said to discredit Blitzo and what Loona told him about their misadventures, he truly expected it to be a difficult job, but glad it wasn't.

But while Arturo had the easiest of times; Loona had the worst ones yet. Due to his curse, she felt more and more in love with him –prompting her to share her stories, past, as well as what she liked and disliked –be it favourite food, least favourite colour –the type of things you share with your loved ones most of the time.

Arturo also got attached to her in some regard. He liked talking to her as much as she did and did nothing to stop her from feeding this connection.

It was a matter of time for both to feel connected, and for Loona to take a step forward –steps that wouldn't go unnoticed.

During a date, Octavia finally shared her concerns:

—Art… Can I ask you something?

—Sure, Via.

—I-Is this relationship open?

Arturo felt uneasy with her question. Was she interested in someone else? While she asked; he noticed how much her hands played with her phone; was she talking to this person right now?

—Can you elaborate?

—Octavia, you are not thinking of doing what you father did, are you? —Stella added, also surprised—.

—What?! No! I-It's not me… —Octavia looked at her phone in a short moment of silence—. It's more about Art.

—You think I've been cheating? —Arturo felt worried, a misunderstanding of that level would be catastrophic—.

—Neither! I just- I don't know how to phrase it. —Octavia paused again—. It's Loona… I've been talking to her and ever since you started working with her, she constantly brings you up. She only ever did that with someone else…

—Well, he is special. —Stella interrupted, sipping tea—. But why bother with her when he has us.

—What I mean is- I think that- —Octavia once more struggled with her wording—. She's my friend and I'm afraid she will stop talking to me because of our relationship. So, you know, maybe she could join?

Arturo spit his tea at the suggestion. Surprised on how she could even draw that logic.

—My, sweetie. How do you even come up with that chain of events?

—Stella was flabbergasted—.

—I have the same question. —Arturo struggled to say, coughing—.

—I think she likes you, and being that I am your girlfriend could maybe make her feel like an adversary, or less of a friend. And well… me and mom, I feel like you hold back with us a lot… Mentioning my age or giving some weird excuses… having someone else of age and of your same circle- —Via, I love both of you, I don't need anyone else. Trust me.

—Come to think about it, the only time you kissed us was back when we decided to date you. —Stella suddenly took Octavia's side—. Or whenever you least expect it and we go for it. You also change the subject when we try to go deeper. If this Loona girl is more your style…

—Ok, ok. Wait, that's not what any of that means!

Arturo was between a rock and a hard place. They weren't lying either; he had been keeping his distance because of the curse –only showing romantical interest but nothing intimate at all to avoid further guilt. If they kissed, it was because either Stella or Octavia would do so at random and whenever they tried to get closer Arturo would excuse it on Via's age or Stella's aggressive forwardness to keep distance.

Any excuse was a good excuse to keep the relationship platonic. Dates, outings, meetings; no matter the event Arturo would always keep it safe for work between the three. Even more so with Octavia.

Because of this, Loona's interest looked like a good gateway to have him ease into the ideas of a more physical relationship now that Octavia had brought it up. This made sense for the girls at least.

—Then I propose a group date. —Stella pushed—. Via, that hellhound and me; with you.

"How is that even supposed to prove anything?! Now it just feels like you want me to date her!" Arturo couldn't understand their logic nor how could they be fine with the idea of having more girls join them.

—Oh! That sounds great! —Octavia sounded excited—.

"No! It doesn't!"

In the blink of an eye. Loona, Octavia, Stella and Arturo were on their way to a one-of-a-kind date.

***

Octavia: «Well, time to see if the name "Arturo's harem" is anything to go by. »

« That name was a joke! Don't I have a saying on this? I want my shy and reserved Octavia back! »

Stella: « Darling, you're a man, you don't have to say a thing. »

« What is that even supposed to mean?! »

A hellish carnival, with no real theme of its own or an occasion that warranted it but that Octavia herself proposed to get Loona to agree.

Her exact words being: « We want to take Arturo somewhere next weekend; you can join us. ». And with Loona interested in spending time with Arturo, it didn't take any persuasion to have her say yes, so any plan Octavia or Stella had, was unnecessary to begin with.

Furthermore, with Octavia and Stella's intent being on testing the "harem" part of their relationship; and Loona's wish of being with Arturo on play, it would depend solely on him how things would turn out at the end.

The poor guy nervously adjusted his jacket as they stepped into the carnival. The flashing neon lights, the smell of fried food, and the sound of wacky music made him question how he got roped into this situation.

His two girlfriends clung to his arms, smiling as if everything was perfectly normal. Loona already felt left out, but carried on regardless.

—Isn't this place great? —They asked, looking at him with wide, hopeful eyes—.

—Uh… yeah, pretty fun… didn't even know this place was a thing…

—Perfect place for a date, right? —Stella chimed in, her voice dripping with amusement as she glanced over at Loona—.

Loona had been silent so far, her usual aloof expression plastered on her face. But everyone noticed the way her ears twitched whenever Octavia or Stella leaned a little too close to him.

More than an invitation to share him, it felt like a silent statement to show Loona her place.

—So, what's the plan? —Loona asked, trying to sound causal, though her eyes darted between Arturo and the horizon—.

—Oh, I saw this game booth where you shoot at some targets! We should totally try it! Loona, you are good with your aim, right? —Octavia beamed—.

Well, Blitz did teach me how to shoot… —Loona crossed her arms, her tail swishing behind her—.

—Or you, Art! You can win us something! —Octavia continued—. Right, Loona?

—That would be nice, yeah… —Loona blushed, her tail going faster—.

Octavia glanced at Arturo, who was now sweating slightly under the pressure.. "Why do this happen to me, I've made my mistakes, got nowhere to run…"

As they approached the booth, Arturo nervously took the rifle as the rules were explained to him. The rifled felt poorly made, and it was incredibly light –he could tell that it was going to be an impossible task to win at least once.

Still, he aimed at the moving target, and with a steady hand, he pressed the trigger, missing the shot.

—Shit… —He muttered, before regaining his poise—.

—These games are always rigged. —Loona chuckled awkwardly—. You don't have to win first try…

—So humble. —Stella sounded entitled—. But I'm sure he can do it.

"Whose side are you on?!" Arturo was about to use Loona's words as an excuse to stop playing. But was stopped before he could even try.

—She's our guest after all.

The more uncomfortable the scene was for Loona the more Arturo would feel worried about her. If they wanted to play this game, he would play it too –by giving his attention to Loona as much as he could as a way to fight back on their rude behaviour.

—You know, you're right. —Arturo confidently took the gun once more—.

Taking his time, he aimed, waited and took shot after shot until he eventually he won something. A black; spiked wrist band. Arturo gave it to Loona as soon as it was given to him.

—T-Thanks, dude. —She blushed, putting it on—.

—That's more like it. —Stella jumped in—. Now it was all worth it.

—Now it's our turn! —Octavia added—.

As quick as Loona was happy, once more Octavia felt like a third wheel, it was now evident a part of her regretted the idea. But this time Arturo was swift and fought them back.

—Like she said, these are too rigged to win once, let alone three times.

Would you like to try something else, Loona?

Surprised to be given the lead, she didn't know how to answer, and both Stella and Octavia couldn't help to feel left out –jealousy getting the best of them as expected.

—I-I mean, we can try ourselves too! Right, mom?

—I don't know… —Arturo kept pushing them, now talking only to Loona—. Do you want to keep playing?

—We don't have to if they want to do something else…

—I insist. You are our guest after all. From my point of view this is your night, Via and Stella have me every day.

—No. —Suddenly, Loona sounded like she was fed up—. That's not what this night is. It's a clear message to show me my place, isn't it Via?

—Loona! That's not what this is about! —Octavia's eyes widened—.

—Oh, really? —Loona raised an eyebrow—. Because last I checked our conversations, you seemed pretty worried about me 'stealing' Arturo.

—That was a joke! —Octavia was worried—. I didn't mean that!

Arturo, sensing the tension but determined to keep the mood light, raised a hand. He was the one now feeling regretful of his actions.

—C'mon girls. This isn't a competition and no one is stealing no one from anyone.

Loona, however couldn't resist her anger.

—Oh, I think it is.

She smirked, sidling up closer to Arturo, her tail brushing against his leg in a way that made his heart race for entirely different reasons.

—Maybe I do want to steal him. You two already share him, might as well lead myself in for a slice of the pie.

—Uh… what now? —Arturo nearly choking on air—.

Arturo was caught between his two girlfriends and a suddenly casually confident hellhound. "What the fuck is going on, now?!", he muttered to himself.

—Let's just… play the game! —Octavia announced, trying to break the scene—.

She grabbed the gun and promptly tried to shoot, missing it entirely.

—Hehe, woops. I think the game doesn't like me. —Octavia nervously laughed—.

Octavia's voice cracked halfway through, earning an amused glance from Loona. She grabbed the gun next, aimed, and perfectly hit a target first try, knocking over another prize.

—See? —Loona smirked—. That's how you do it.

Arturo, sensing things going worse from now looked at Octavia, who was desperately trying not to let Loona's cool performance get to her. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly) enough, Stella was at all times unbothered by the small confrontation, she wasn't the kind to let her feelings show.

Besides, for her; there was nothing to worry about. She knew she was good enough for Arturo and felt like there was nothing to prove or disprove about their relationship –or at least that what she told to herself.

After all, the main reason she was ok with Loona's involvement was to make sure Arturo's needs were met at all times. A way to keep him happy. An idea she made herself believe in after Stolas' affair. In royal terms, she saw Loona as a concubine of sorts.

—It's fine! Via, you don't have to be good at this. —He said, patting her arm with a supportive smile—.

Stella, already bored with the game, now eyed a nearby food stand.

—Well, while you three sort out who's winning what, I'm going to get something. Anyone want anything?

—I think we're done here anyways. —Loona gave the gun back to the imp running the booth—. What do you think Art?

After what was an awkward moment of silence, followed by an uncomfortable dining experience. Arturo once more felt culprit of everything that went bad.

He looked at his food, looked at the three ladies and knew he had to do something eventually.

—I'm sorry, Loona. You don't deserve being put up to this.

Loona, Octavia and Stella all looked at him with wide open eyes.

—There's nothing to be sorry about, dude. I get it.

—No, you don't. This date, this… idea. I was supposed to be the

target.

Stella and Octavia now looked away ashamed. Loona reacting to it.

—What do you mean?

—Via didn't want you to step away from her because of your interest in me and figured the best way to go about it was for me to date you too.

—And do you… want to date me? That's why you played along?

—Actually… it was to prove them that they didn't have to worry about anything… I- I really don't know why I did play along.

—Is that true? —Loona looked at Octavia—.

—Well, yeah, pretty much.

Loona couldn't hold it, laughing at her response.

—Via, why on earth would I stop being your friend over a guy?

Octavia blushed with embarrassment. Not a single word coming from her.

—Hey, dude. You truly got yourself some weird girlfriends.

—No shit.

After another short moment of silence, Arturo wondered if he should push forward. Slightly moved by everyone's involvement and response to the events.

—So, you're in? —Arturo awkwardly smiled—.

—Wait, you guys are for real?

Stella gave a thumbs up as she continued eating, still unbothered by the drama, while Octavia shrug her shoulders.

—Might as well make the night worth it, right? —Arturo added—.

—Blitz' gonna kill you.

With those words said, Loona grabbed Arturo and kissed him deeply, he couldn't help but to kiss back –glad to have things to end like this instead of some form of conflict or argument. Unbothered by what this turn of events could mean in the future –and once more ignoring everything he told himself not to do because of his curse.

That's how, somehow, with some weird and inexplicable logic behind it, Arturo now had a new girlfriend. And a new set of problems to arise from that too. Should he keep it a secret like he had done with Stolas, would Loona tell Blitzo right away? She wasn't as reserved as Octavia, and Stella had no one to talk about her personal life as far as he knew. So he wasn't ready for whatever consequences this could bring.

All he could do was add her to their group conversation to "formalize" things a little more and hope for the best. But something told him that this was but the start of something more complex, bigger and unexpected journey.

Loona: « Really? Arturo's Harem? »

Octavia: « We told him. »

Stella: « a 'joke' apparently. »

« I'm changing the name. »

Group chat has been renamed to "The girls"
