Chapter 1 - 1 Where am I?

Ryo jolted awake, disoriented and breathless, as if he had just surfaced from the depths of a dream. The air around him felt different—crisp, fragrant, and oddly familiar, yet wholly foreign. He blinked against the bright sunlight streaming through a nearby window, its rays illuminating a lavishly decorated room that seemed straight out of a fantasy novel. Intricate tapestries adorned the walls, depicting grand battles and noble families, while a polished wooden desk was cluttered with scrolls and quills.

"What… where am I?" he muttered, shaking his head to dispel the remnants of sleep. The last thing he remembered was drifting off in his cramped apartment, far from this opulence.

Ryo pushed himself up on the plush bed, his heart racing as he took in his surroundings. The furniture was ornate, the bedspread a rich blue embroidered with golden patterns. A wooden sword hung on the wall, its hilt intricately carved, and he felt a strange sense of recognition wash over him. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, feeling the cool, polished floor beneath his feet. Something was off; he could feel it in his bones.

As he stood, he noticed a large mirror in the corner of the room. He approached it cautiously, half-expecting to see a stranger staring back at him. Instead, he was met with his own reflection, but it was different—his hair was longer, and his features more chiseled. The young man staring back at him had an air of nobility that he didn't recognize. He wore a simple white tunic, its sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and dark trousers that fit him perfectly.

"Lucian Aldrin," a voice echoed in his mind. The name resonated deeply, but he had no idea who this person was or why he felt such an affinity for it. A vision flashed in his mind—battlefields, swords clashing, and a voice shouting commands. The realization hit him hard: he was not just in another world; he was in someone else's body. He was Lucian Aldrin, heir to House Aldrin, a noble family in this fantastical realm.

"What kind of trick is this?" Ryo whispered, panic rising within him. He stumbled back from the mirror, trying to grasp the situation. How could he be here? Was he dreaming? But the sensations felt too real—the warmth of the sun, the weight of his body, the very pulse of life surrounding him.

Taking a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down. "Okay, Ryo… or Lucian. Whatever," he muttered, "let's figure this out."

Ryo explored the room, noticing various items that hinted at the life Lucian led. A beautifully bound book lay open on the desk, filled with intricate sketches of combat techniques and historical notes about House Aldrin. He flipped through the pages, absorbing the information about the family's lineage, their enemies, and the ongoing struggles against a group known as the Blackthorn Raiders.

As he read, snippets of memories began to surface—Lucian's training with the sword, lessons from his father, and the weight of expectations that came with being an heir. The burden felt heavy on his shoulders, a legacy he never chose but now bore.

Suddenly, the door swung open, and a woman entered, her demeanor commanding yet warm. She had long, flowing auburn hair and wore a dress of deep green that accentuated her striking features. "Lucian! There you are! We've been searching for you everywhere," she exclaimed, her voice filled with relief. "Father has been worried."

"Father?" Ryo repeated, a mix of confusion and curiosity swirling in his mind.

"Yes, your father, Lord Aldrin. We must hurry; the council meeting is about to begin!" She rushed forward, her hands gripping his shoulders, her eyes searching his face. "Are you all right?"

"I… I'm fine," Ryo stammered, trying to play along. He could sense a bond between them, and it struck him that this woman was likely his sister, Elara. "I just… lost track of time."

"Come on then," she urged, pulling him along. "You need to be there to represent the house."

As they made their way through the grand halls of the estate, Ryo marveled at the opulence surrounding him. Elaborate chandeliers hung from the ceilings, casting soft light over the marble floors. He could hear the distant murmur of voices and the clatter of armor, heightening his anxiety.

"Lucian!" a voice called from ahead, and Ryo turned to see a tall, stern-looking man approaching—a knight adorned in polished armor, his expression a mix of respect and urgency. "We need you at the council. The situation with the Blackthorn Raiders has escalated."

Ryo nodded, his mind racing. He had read about the Raiders in the book, but now he felt the weight of their threat. "What exactly is happening?"

"Reports have come in that they've been attacking nearby villages, stealing supplies, and terrorizing the populace. They're bold, and their numbers seem to be growing. The council is discussing our response," the knight explained, his tone serious.

"Do we have allies?" Ryo asked, trying to absorb everything.

"Some, but many are reluctant to act. They fear retaliation," the knight replied. "But we must show strength, or we risk losing everything."

Ryo's resolve hardened. He might not know everything about this world, but he was determined to protect it. He was Lucian Aldrin now, and he would not let fear dictate his actions.

As they entered the council chamber, Ryo felt a rush of adrenaline. The room was filled with lords and ladies, each wearing expressions of concern and unease. A long wooden table dominated the center, laden with maps and documents. At the head of the table sat Lord Aldrin—Ryo's father—an imposing figure with silver hair and a commanding presence.

"Lucian!" his father exclaimed, relief evident in his voice. "You've finally arrived. We were just about to begin."

"Father," Ryo said, his voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions inside him. "What can I do to help?"

"Your presence will lend weight to our discussion. We need to demonstrate unity against the Raiders," Lord Aldrin replied, gesturing for Ryo to take his seat. "We must devise a plan to protect our lands."

As the council commenced, Ryo listened intently, absorbing every detail. Various lords spoke of their fears and suggestions, debating whether to fortify defenses or send forces to counterattack the raiders. Ryo noticed a growing tension; some lords were hesitant to act, fearing they would become targets.

"This is a pivotal moment," Ryo interjected, finding his voice amidst the clamor. "If we do not act decisively, we will appear weak. The Blackthorn Raiders thrive on our hesitation. We must unite our forces and push back before they strike again."

A murmur of agreement rippled through the room, and Ryo felt a flicker of confidence. His words had resonated with some, sparking a fire in their hearts. Lord Aldrin nodded approvingly, a proud smile breaking through his stern expression.

"Lucian is right. We must show strength," he declared. "I propose we send envoys to our neighboring houses, seeking alliances. We cannot fight this battle alone."

The discussion continued, but Ryo felt a shift in the atmosphere. He had stepped into a role he never anticipated, and with each passing moment, he embraced it more. He was Lucian Aldrin, and he would protect his family and lands.

As the meeting drew to a close, Ryo stepped outside, the cool evening air refreshing against his skin. He looked out over the sprawling estate, the gardens bathed in twilight, and felt a sense of purpose settle over him. This world was beautiful yet perilous, and he had been thrust into its depths.

Elara joined him, her expression thoughtful. "You spoke well, Lucian. I knew you could do it."

"Thanks, Elara," he replied, glancing at her. "But this is only the beginning. We need to prepare for what's coming."

Together, they walked through the gardens, their steps in sync. Ryo's heart raced with anticipation and fear. He had a lot to learn, but one thing was certain: he was ready to fight for this world, to protect those he cared about, and to unravel the mysteries of his newfound identity.

As the stars began to twinkle overhead, Ryo felt a strange sense of belonging in this realm, a connection to the legacy of Lucian Aldrin. He would discover his strength, gather allies, and face the challenges ahead. This was not just a dream; it was his reality now, and he would make the most of it.
