Chapter 7 - Familiarising With The WishperWind

The morning sun peeked over the horizon, bathing the Whisperwind settlement in a warm glow. Unlike the previous day, the air was crisp and invigorating, carrying the promise of a new adventure.

Argos, feeling revitalized thanks to Irene's healing magic, stretched his muscles, a satisfied sigh escaping his lips.

"Feeling better, Argos?" Irene's voice startled him out of his reverie. She stood at the doorway, a bright smile adorning her face.

Her hair, usually meticulously braided, was pulled back in a loose ponytail, giving her a more casual appearance.

Argos grinned. "Much better, thanks to you, Irene. Your magic is truly formidable."

Irene chuckled, a light blush dusting her cheeks. "It's nothing compared to the raw power you displayed in the duel. You surprised everyone, even Father."

They shared a comfortable silence for a moment, the weight of the previous day's events hanging in the air.

Argos smiled, his own fatigue momentarily forgotten. "As ready as I'll ever be, Irene.

Though I must admit, I'm still curious about yesterday's challenge. Don't you think slaying orcs would be a walk in the park for a skilled warrior like myself?"

Irene burst out laughing, a melodious sound that echoed through the quiet hallway. "Oh, Argos," she teased, wiping a tear from her eye, "you underestimate the impact you've made. Father, despite his stoic facade, respects strength and courage.

He wouldn't want a worthy opponent leaving with a bitter taste in their mouth, especially after nearly defeating all three of his sons.

Deep down, he admires your prowess, even if he wouldn't admit it readily."

A surprised chuckle escaped Argos' lips. "So, it wasn't just about proving my worth?"

Irene shook her head, her smile turning thoughtful. "Not entirely. We spirits are generally considered superior to humans physically.

But," she added, her voice gaining conviction, "that doesn't diminish human strength. I've witnessed the immense potential within your kind. Your greatest weapon, though, isn't magic or brute force.

It's hope. Humans possess an unyielding capacity for hope, a fire that burns ever brighter in the face of adversity."

Argos pondered her words, a newfound sense of pride blooming in his chest. Humans weren't weaklings, as some might perceive them in this realm. They were survivors, driven by an unshakeable hope that defied all odds.

Their journey to the eastern border was filled with lively conversation. They spoke of their respective cultures, their hopes and dreams for the future, and even shared childhood anecdotes that elicited laughter and lighthearted reminiscing.

The border region, a stark contrast to the lush greenery of the Whisperwind settlement, was a harsh landscape of windswept plains dotted with the occasional hardy shrub. A tense silence hung in the air, a constant reminder of the threat they were about to face.

Reaching a makeshift outpost manned by a handful of weary-looking Whisperwind warriors, Argos and Irene were met with startled stVhadros. The warriors, accustomed to seeing only their own kind patrolling the region, were visibly surprised by the sight of a human accompanying their princess.

Irene, ever gracious, greeted them warmly, inquiring about recent orc activity. Their responses confirmed reports of increased orc raids, their voices laced with worry.

Argos listened intently, his mind already formulating a battle plan based on his past experience with orcs back while training with Mythra.

The battle itself was a whirlwind of adrenaline and controlled chaos. Argos, wielding his blade with deadly precision, cut through the orcish ranks like a whirlwind. Irene, a blur of graceful movement, fought at his side, her GALEWOOD WAND flashing like deadly power. Together, they were a force of nature, driving the orcs back with relentless fury.

The grateful warriors at the outpost cheered as the last orc fled the battlefield. Leaning against a rock, his chest heaving, Argos surveyed the scene, a sense of accomplishment washing over him. He had proven himself not only to the Whisperwinds but also to himself.

As they returned back toward the Whisperwind settlement, they were met by a worried-looking Orion. Relief flooded his face as he saw his daughter unharmed. He rushed towards her, engulfing her in a tight embrace.

"Irene! Are you alright? You don't have any wounds, do you? And what about that injury you sustained in Vordheim? I told you not to go to the human realm alone! Promise me, Irene," his voice laced with a mixture of fear and concern, "you'll be more careful from now on."

Irene, touched by her father's unexpected display of affection, hugged him back tightly. "Papa, I'm fine," she reassured him. "I'll be more cautious, I promise."

Orion's gaze then shifted to Argos, his expression unreadable for a fleeting moment before a hint of respect glimmered in his eyes. With a curt nod, he approached Argos and bowed deeply, an unexpected gesture that left Argos speechless.

Argos, still slightly stunned by Orion's deep bow, fumbled for a response. He stammered, "Th-thank you... for allowing me to stay here. Your hospitality has been..."Invaluable,"

Orion finished his sentence, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. The stern patriarch, a man who commanded respect with a mere glance, had just shown immense gratitude towards a human warrior.

As the last embers of the commotion died down, a sense of quiet descended upon the Whisperwind settlement. The warriors, weary but exhilarated from the day's events, settled into their routines, their voices a low murmur as they recounted the tale of the human warrior who deuled them.

Argos, his body spent but his spirit soaring, retreated to his temporary quarters. The familiar weight of his pendant, nestled against his chest, offered a comforting reminder of home. As he traced the intricate design with his fingers, a silent prayer escaped his lips.

"Mythra," he whispered, gazing up at the unfamiliar constellations sprawled across the night sky. "I may not be on the path I originally envisioned, but something feels right about this. I don't know if it's the way you intended, but I believe I'm heading in the right direction."

A pang of longing pierced his heart as he thought of his family. "Mom, Dad," he continued, his voice thick with emotion, "I miss you both more than words can express. I hope you're alright. I promise, I'll find a way back someday.

Not just to return, but to repay the kindness I've received here. To fill that void I know my absence must have created. Don't be sad, please. I won't die here. I'll come back, stronger and more capable than ever before."

With a resolute sigh, Argos closed his eyes, the weight of his responsibility momentarily heavy on his shoulders. But beneath it all, a spark of excitement flickered.

Tomorrow held a new challenge – training under the watchful eye of Orion himself. The very thought sent a thrill coursing through him.

On the same night of dinner, as they sat around a table laden with a hearty meal, Orion, his gaze fixed on Argos, broke the comfortable silence.

"Argos," he rumbled, his voice carrying an uncharacteristic weight, "we haven't spoken much about your purpose for journeying to Vordheim. You wouldn't have found yourself there if you didn't seek to become stronger. Tell us, what drives you?"

Argos hesitated, a flicker of doubt crossing his features. Should he reveal his true purpose? Was it wise to trust these people with such a monumental secret?

He met Orion's unwavering gaze, a flicker of understanding passing between them. Taking a deep breath, Argos decided to take the leap.

"My journey," he began, his voice firm yet tinged with solemnity, "is fueled by a duty bestowed upon me." He paused, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the Whisperwinds, their expressions a mix of curiosity and concern.

"Two years ago," he continued, "I received a sacred task – to prevent the world's destruction. It was the goddess Mythra herself who trained me, honing my skills for this very purpose. I spent two arduous years under her tutelage, believing I would confront the upcoming threat. But fate, it seems, had other plans."

A collective gasp escaped the Whisperwinds as Argos mentioned Mythra. Irene, her eyes wide with astonishment, gasped, "Mythra... the goddess of knowledge? You trained under her?"

Argos met her gaze, a solemn nod confirming her suspicions. "Indeed, Irene. That's why I'm here. Mythra, in her infinite wisdom, believed I was the key to stopping the coming catastrophe."

Orion, a tremor running through his powerful frame, rose from his chair. A dark look clouded his face.

"So, the tremors I felt two years ago... they were real. I feared the worst, but..." He trailed off, his gaze hardening.

"But if what you say is true, then we must prepare ourselves. The enemy may come in a month, a year... we have no way of knowing. But one thing is certain – the final battle is coming."

A tense silence descended upon the room, the weight of his words hanging heavy in the air.

"Argos looks like it was fate that sent you here in the spirit realm, I guess Goddess Mythra predicted this to happen" said Orion.

So I will train you Argos so you can face your battles without any problem. Starting tomorrow.

The news that Orion, the stoic and powerful patriarch, had agreed to train a human warrior spread like wildfire through the settlement.

Whispers filled the air, a mixture of curiosity and cautious approval. The training grounds, usually a place of rigorous practice for the Whisperwind warriors, became a stage for an unlikely student and master.

Orion, a man of few words, approached the task with a surprising intensity. He started with the fundamentals, drilling Argos on footwork, swordsmanship, and the flow of energy within his body.

Argos, eager to learn and fueled by a deep respect for his teacher, absorbed every instruction like a sponge.

Argos, as you know, being a Sentinel allows you to learn others' ways of using every style of power. We Spirits, unlike humans who use the surrounding mana, draw our magic from Nature itself.

We don't need mana to live; we are one with nature, and we harness power from our surroundings. That's the fundamental difference between our magic systems and human magic. For instance, if a human creates a flame, it's merely a flame. But watch this.

Argos used a flame spell, and then Orion did the same. As you can see, my flame is much stronger because it has a soul. A human's flame is just an embodiment of mana, while ours is the true flame itself.

That's the basic principle. Now, I'll teach you how to harness it.

The following days were a whirlwind of intense training. Orion pushed Argos to his limits, testing his endurance, reflexes, and spirit. Fueled by his determination to return home and his newfound respect for the Whisperwinds, Argos faced every challenge head-on.

"Remember, Argos," Orion said, his voice steady, "Your power comes from the very heart of nature. Feel it, embrace it, and let it flow through you."

Argos nodded, his eyes focused. He raised his hand, and a gentle breeze began to stir. "I can feel it," he murmured, his voice filled with wonder.

"Good," Orion replied. "Now, let's amplify it."

Orion guided Argos through a series of intricate hand gestures and focused breathing. As Argos followed the instructions, the breeze grew stronger, swirling around him like a miniature tempest.

"Impressive," Orion commented, a hint of surprise in his voice. "You're a quick learner."

Argos smiled. "I have much to learn from you, Master."

"And I from you, young one," Orion replied. "Your potential is limitless."

He learned to channel his energy with newfound precision, a stark contrast to the brute force he had relied on before. He discovered the grace and fluidity inherent in the Whisperwind fighting style, a stark departure from the heavy swings of his homeland.

As the weeks turned into months, a bond began to form between the unlikely pair. Orion, initially skeptical of the human warrior, found himself impressed by Argos' unwavering dedication and his capacity for growth. Argos, in turn, discovered a mentor who challenged him not just physically but also mentally.

The training wasn't just about combat. Orion also shared snippets of Whisperwind history and culture, revealing a rich tapestry of traditions and beliefs. Argos listened intently, his understanding of this intriguing realm deepening with each passing day.

The nights, once filled with loneliness, were now filled with a sense of purpose and camaraderie. Argos spent evenings with Irene, sharing stories of his homeland and learning more about Lumina Fey'an. They discussed their dreams, their fears, and their hopes for the future, a silent understanding blossoming between them.

As Argos drifted off to sleep each night, exhausted yet content, he knew he wasn't just getting closer to his goal of returning home. He was forging new bonds, discovering a strength he never knew he possessed, and finding his place within this extraordinary world.
