Chapter 22: Gathering Clouds

The camp settled into a tense rhythm as the heroes regrouped after the encounter with the mysterious figure. The sky above remained shrouded in thick clouds, the air heavy with the scent of rain that refused to fall. Aaron, Deku, Tempest, and the Pro Heroes, including Endeavor and Shoto, worked together to secure the perimeter and assess the damage. But even with their victory over the Coalition's leader, an unease lingered, as if the shadow of a greater threat loomed just beyond sight.

Aaron felt the weight of that tension as he stood at the edge of the camp, looking out over the forest that stretched into the distance. The encounter with the figure had left a mark on him, deeper than the physical strain of battle. He could still feel the echoes of the place between worlds, the veil that had momentarily pulled him into a space where reality felt fragile, where ancient power had called to him.

He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and trying to focus on the steady rhythm of the storm within him. He had survived, had fought back against the darkness that sought to consume him, but the figure's words echoed in his mind: The power inside you will continue to grow, and when the time comes, you will face the true force that lies beyond the veil.

Aaron had thought he was fighting the Coalition, battling to keep his power from being used by those who would twist it for their own ends. But now, he sensed that the Coalition was just a part of a much larger game—one where the stakes reached far beyond his own life.

"Aaron."

He opened his eyes to find Deku standing beside him, his expression serious but laced with concern. The green lightning that usually crackled around him was subdued, as if reflecting the gravity of the situation.

"You've been out here for a while," Deku said quietly, glancing at the darkening sky. "Are you all right?"

Aaron let out a slow breath, turning his gaze back to the trees. "I'm not sure, kid. I thought beating the Coalition's leader would mean something—would feel like we'd finally turned the tide. But it doesn't. It feels like we've only stirred up something worse."

Deku frowned, his mind working through the implications of Aaron's words. "I know. That figure… the way they talked about ancient forces and the veil—it's like there's a whole other layer to this that we're just starting to understand. But whatever it is, we'll face it together, right?"

Aaron studied Deku for a moment, then nodded slowly. He still wasn't used to trusting others, but he couldn't deny that having Deku by his side had made a difference. It had given him a reason to fight beyond mere survival, a purpose that he hadn't felt in years.

"Yeah," Aaron said, his voice rough but sincere. "We'll face it together. But if we're going to do that, we need to know what we're up against. The Coalition might have had some answers, but I think we're dealing with something older than them—something they only thought they understood."

Before Deku could respond, Tempest approached, her expression tight with urgency. "We have a problem," she said, cutting straight to the point. "Our scouts just picked up some chatter from the remnants of the Coalition's forces. They've regrouped faster than we expected, and they're moving toward a location north of here—something they're calling the 'Nexus Point.'"

Aaron turned to face her, his brow furrowing. "Nexus Point? What is it?"

Tempest shook her head, frustration clear in her voice. "I don't know exactly, but it's tied to the same symbols we found in the Coalition's journal, the same symbols they were using in that ritual to try to control your power. My guess is that it's another location where the veil between worlds is thin—where they might try to harness that ancient power again."

Deku's eyes widened with realization. "If that's true, then they're planning to use it to complete whatever ritual they couldn't finish here. They might try to force open the connection between our world and whatever's on the other side."

Aaron clenched his fists, feeling the familiar surge of the storm rise within him. "Then we can't let them reach it. If they're trying to break through that veil again, they could unleash something even worse than before."

Tempest nodded, her expression grim but resolute. "I'll gather the other heroes. We don't have much time. If we move quickly, we might be able to intercept them before they reach the Nexus Point."

She turned and hurried back toward the camp, leaving Aaron and Deku alone once more. Deku glanced at Aaron, his determination clear. "We'll stop them, Aaron. But we have to be careful. If the Coalition is desperate, they'll do whatever it takes to succeed—even if it means sacrificing themselves."

Aaron's jaw tightened, his mind racing with the possibilities. "I know. But this time, we won't let them catch us off guard."

Within the hour, the heroes were on the move, cutting through the dense forest as they made their way north toward the Nexus Point. Endeavor led the main force, flanked by Shoto, Bakugo, and other Pro Heroes. Tempest and Aaron took a position near the front, their senses attuned to any signs of movement in the underbrush.

As they moved, the tension in the air grew thicker, the sky darkening until it seemed to merge with the shadows of the trees. The wind picked up, howling through the branches like a distant warning. Aaron felt the storm inside him respond to the
