As she neared the door, she noticed something peculiar—it wasn't fully closed.
The smallest gap remained, barely an inch wide, but enough to allow a sliver of warm, flickering light to escape into the dark hallway.
She swallowed.
A part of her told her to turn back. Whatever was happening inside, it wasn't meant for her. She knew that.
And yet…
Her curiosity got the better of her.
"R—" She barely managed to say his name before the words died on her lips.
Her breath hitched.
Through the narrow gap, she caught sight of something—something that sent a jolt through her body.
Diane froze, her pulse pounding in her ears.
Her mind screamed at her to turn away, to pretend she hadn't seen anything.
To pretend she wasn't standing here, intruding on something she had no business witnessing.
But she couldn't move.
