Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Battle in the Dense Forest

"Sister," Aurora trembled in Afura's arms, her eyes filled with fear. This scene was eerily similar to the day she was playing with her brother and was called away by her panicked mother to hide in the secret room. The secret room had been broken into, and her mother...

Afura crouched down, gently picked up Aurora, stroked her hair, wiped away her tears, and said, "Don't be afraid. Nothing will happen. It will be over soon."

"Sister," Aurora's tears flowed again. Afura placed her on Kelly's broad back and instructed, "Hold onto its fur tightly."

Then, she lifted Aix and placed him behind Aurora. "Protect your sister."

Aix's face paled, but he nodded firmly.

"Afura, Phoebe, and Kelly, take these two little ones and evacuate upstream along the stream. There's an orchard there, which is the territory of the fire monkeys. Wait for me there."

The two large cats nodded and quickly ran out of the cave.

"Bane, come with me to see who's approaching."

Bane licked his lips, picked up his long-handled great axe, and followed Afura out of the cave.

James and his team picked up their weapons. James asked loudly, "Wait, what about us?"

Afura looked back at them and said, "Do as you please."

With that, she left the cave with Bane.

The group looked at each other. Jack spoke up, "James, what are you waiting for? Let's go quickly."

James didn't speak, and the atmosphere became heavy. Mary hesitated and said, "Why don't we catch up?"

Oliver Knight's face turned green.

James gritted his teeth and said, "Let's follow and see."

He walked out, with Mary following closely, and Oliver Knight, with a dark face, also following.

Old Warren shook his head and sighed, "Too young!"

But in his heart, it was precisely this youth and recklessness that made him decide to follow James.

With a hearty laugh, Old Warren also walked forward, shouting back to Jack, "Kid, what are you waiting for?"

"Hey, I said you guys..." Jack raised his hand and then let it fall dejectedly, stamping his foot and gritting his teeth as he followed, cursing in his heart but feeling relieved.

James showed a bright smile. "Everyone, thank you."

As soon as Bane followed Afura out of the cave, he saw the undulating green light in the forest, like ghost fire. He knew this was not ghost fire. Any animal or monster with night vision would have glowing eyes, and most of them were green light.

The last trace of luck in his heart was extinguished. Bane gave a bitter smile. It seemed that after living a few more days, he had to fight hard again. Thinking this way, he tightened the axe in his hand, pulled the corner of his mouth, and a trace of bloodthirsty light flashed in his eyes.

A wisp of smoke rose beside Afura, followed by a spark, and then a flame gradually expanded. The flame accompanied Afura forward, like a hot fireball, getting bigger and bigger.

The restlessness in the forest suddenly quieted down, and then a violent roar came, followed by the green light fluctuating more violently up and down. Branches were broken, and a strong jackal man jumped out first, followed by hundreds of jackal men.

Jack, who had just come out of the cave, felt a little shaky in his lower legs. He ran to James and said in a trembling voice, "James... James, I think we should run quickly!"

He saw clearly that under the illumination of the fire, the ones rushing out from the forest were clearly jackal men, and judging from the undulating green light in the forest, there were at least hundreds.

They could deal with ten jackal men, and they could fight against twenty, but this was hundreds, maybe more, and there was no way to fight hard.

He wondered in his heart, with Afura's skills, it would be very simple to run away directly. Why bother to stay here and fight hard?

Afura, of course, knew this. If she was alone, she would have run away. The key was those two children. She had to attract the attention of the other party so that the children would have a chance to escape.

As for who the other party was, she had already guessed roughly when she was in the cave—it was probably the same kind of jackal man she killed during the day who came to avenge her. The place where she acted during the day was indeed too close to the cave, and it was normal for the jackal man to find it.

Boom!!!

The flame spread violently, and a group of jackal men hit a wall of fire. Their hair was ignited, and the jackal men made a shrill cry, like a ghost crying, which was chilling.

However, these jackal men were already red-eyed, speeding up, and rushed out of the fire wall with a body of flames. What greeted it was an axe on the head. Under the firelight, a cloud of blood suddenly exploded. The ugly head rose to the sky, and the headless body rushed a few steps and then fell to the ground.

The second and third jackal men rushed out. Bane wiped the blood on his face and rushed up with a loud shout. The weapons collided, and the jackal men screamed and flew back, then were swallowed by the flames.

Bane made a muffled hum, and his waist was hit by a wolf tooth stick, and immediately a piece of flesh and blood was blurred. He raised his fist and smashed it on the bridge of the nose of the jackal man in front of him. The jackal man covered his nose and retreated in a mess, and was immediately hit by the axe that caught up. The iron rings on the chain shirt burst and splashed, and in the face of Bane's axe, the chain shirt did not play a protective role at all. The body of the jackal man was torn in half and could only lie on the ground helplessly waiting to die.

More jackal men rushed out from the flames, and Bane fearlessly raised his axe. The flames swayed wildly, and under the firelight, Bane killed one after another of the jackal men who rushed out from the flames. More than a dozen jackal men who rushed up, half fell in the flames, and the other half died in Bane's hands.

Afura felt a little uneasy in her heart. Although fear turned into mana was enough to support her [Fire Control], the fear was decreasing. More importantly, Bane killed eight jackal men in one breath, and he was also injured a lot. These injuries did not affect anything, but his body was not perfect, and his movements began to slow down, presumably something was wrong again.

The jackal men bypassed the fire wall and rushed over from both sides. Two arrows were shot from behind Afura almost at the same time, knocking down two jackal men to the ground. James and Sir Oliver rushed up, James's dragon-slaying spear danced, and he stabbed one spear after another, knocking down three jackal men to the ground. Oliver raised his shield, withstood attack after attack, and ended the life of a jackal man with a hammer, covering Bane who was injured to retreat quickly.

The old hunter placed one trap after another on the ground, and then scattered a piece of iron caltrops. Mary shot one arrow after another, and almost every three arrows could take away the life of a jackal man.

Jack had quietly approached, hiding behind Oliver's tall body. Taking an opportunity, he quickly rushed forward, stabbed a dagger through the eye socket of a jackal man into the brain, stirred it, and then quickly retreated with a strange smile, hiding behind Oliver.
