Author Note: shamelessly begging for forgiveness for the late update.
Vivian remembers a part in the original novel where the duke and the original Vivian were having an argument about his relationship with the female lead and the duke was reminding the original character of what he told her on their wedding night and that's how the readers find out that the male lead made such a heartless statement to his wife the original character on their wedding night for that matter.
After heartlessly breaking her heart with his words, he did not wait a minute longer before leaving the room and letting her spend the wedding night alone and even after that not for once did he enter her room and talk less about touching her and the original Vivian who is also an innocent girl has never for once try to enter his room or seduce him, leaving her to die as a virgin in the novel.
"What a pity for such a pretty girl like her, leaving such a beautiful face and body to waste," Vivian thought to herself while remembering what the original Vivian passed through especially now that she inherited her memories and she is in her body, she can clearly feel her pain and sorrow, this made her want to deal with all the people that are supporting the female protagonist and her male leads and hating on Vivian.
"The only crime she committed is Falling in love," Vivian thought to herself "And this is why it is good not to marry for love," she thought to herself proudly, she looked at the duke and noticed that his expressionless face flashed with guilt but only for few seconds but he switched back to looking expressionless.
This causes Vivian to be more confused than before, everything is just different from what she expected since she Transmigrated into this novel, not only are the male leads indifferent toward her bullying the female protagonist, but there is also no case of the world interfering to protect their protagonist like some Transfiguration novel and now the male lead is feeling guilty, she can not help but ask herself if she truly Transmigrated into the right novel.
But even though the male lead is feeling guilty, it seems like he still wants to keep on acting as if he is nonchalant toward her.
"No, I'm not affected and just felt like you might be feeling cold, I don't want you giving the excuse that it's because you arrived at me as a guest tonight and that is why you ended up caught cold and that's why I will suggest for you to cover up but if you are good then Im also fine," Leonard said nonchalantly but he was still betrayed but his redden ear.
"If that's the case then both of us are good and there is no need for you to worry that I will use cold as an excuse not to go to the holy temple tomorrow so there is no need to fear"
"That's not what I mean… you know what? Forget about it" Leonard said as if he just realized how he acted just now was breaking his facade.
"Ok then, quickly say what you are here for as you can see, im about to sleep, and I really need my sleep because I've never been this mentally drained before in my life, it seems like have used too much of my mental energy and now I need to recover it," Vivian said with her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Her words once again made Leonard guilty and a little bit sad, he was only trying to provoke her into divorce but he seems to have gotten carried away and hurt her too deeply in the process forgetting that she is a noble with the noblest bloodline, his actions have completely disregarded her honor and end up changing her personality, his kitten is now showing bearing her fangs to him.
"Maybe I should have just listened to Alaric," Leonard said when he remembered his conversation with his best friend a few years ago.
Alaric has once advised Leonard not to pressure the duchess into divorce but rather talk to her and let her be aware of his plan but he believed that Vivian is too obsessed with him to understand so he believes pressuring her is the best action and now he feels like a fool for not taking Alaric advice and he's not liking that feeling one bit.
He knows that Vivian is definitely not a pretender like other noblewomen, she is truly kind and gentle, she tolerates almost everything and she is generous to people and very naive, she only and has only seen the good side of the world until she marries him.
When he visualized their divorce, he had never expected it to be this dramatic and now he feels guilty knowing he's the reason why this innocent woman schemes for the first time, and he does not feel good about it because he feels like he has stolen her innocence from her.
The once innocent and generous duchess is now becoming a being like the other scheming noble women and the strong disdain and disregard in her eyes is so different from the usual worshipping and idolizing look that he used to find in her eyes when she looks at him, he really wants to cover up those eyes.
They make him feel so guilty that he feels like living like a happily married couple with her without the need for divorce but at the end of the day, he feels like his freedom matters more.
Even if he decides to stay in the marriage, he feels like he will never be able to truly get rid of the psychological bondage that his father has placed on him, he will continue to feel like their marriage is nothing but an exchange relationship whereby he's a commodity sold to her for her own happiness and his own family progress, for this reason alone, divorce is a must.
