Still ken pov.
*Ring, ring!!* Came the sound of the phone. It was a business call, so I answered it at once.
" Hello." I spoke to the unknown caller.
" Good evening, I would like to speak to Mr kenith, please." By the sound of the voice it was a man.
" Yes, this is him speaking, how can I help you."
"Hello Mr kenith, I am Benjamin Ave, the assistant to miss Beckett and I would like to make an appointment with you."
" An appointment with me?." I asked a bit confused.
" What I mean is I would like you to come for a check up on our miss pets. You are a vet right?." The man named Benjamin said.
"Oh yes I am but I can't come today or tomorrow but am free on Monday morning, would that be good enough."
" Of course that would be fine and don't worry about the fee, I promise you would be paid nicely and please don't be late for my sake and yours." The way Mr Benjamin said it was a little consigning but either way a job was a job.
" It's not a problem. So what's the address...." I said as I soon as I grab a pen and note book to write down the address. I was still on the call when I heard the sound of my door unlocked and someone came in.
" Honey... Am ho-."Dennis sang but stopped half way when he saw me glaring at him. I indicated that I was still on the phone and the person I was speaking too might have heard him.
" Oops.. sorry." He mouthed then went to play with Barker till I hanged up the call.
" Are you serious!." I said before hitting him with the couch pillow.
" Ouch, hi am sorry, how was I suppose to know you were on the phone." Dennis complained.
" Maybe you shouldn't shout like that and enter like a normal person."
I fired back to see him pouting.
" Am sorry but on the bright side I got you dinner." He said joyfully, showing me the takeouts he had bought with him.
We soon sat down on the couch watching TV, each of us with our own food with can's of bars on the table, even Barker had his own.
" By the way, who was that you were talking too on the phone." Dennis asked when he was half way through finishing his food. To Dennis food always came first before anything else.
" Now you ask?. Anyways it was just work" I answered for Dennis to nod his head as he feasted on a chicken .
" By the way do you know who the Beckett's are?." I asked to suddenly see Dennis start choking on his chicken wing.
Ken:😳😳😳.
" Hi, are you better now." I Asked Dennis as I gave him a glass of water after the whole choking drama was over.
"*Coughing* yeah am fine now." Dennis said before taking a sip of the water.
" why the reaction on hearing the name Beckett's?." I asked very consigned.
" That's because the name Beckett is a very powerful thing to say or don't you know?." Dennis said to see me shake my head.
" No I don't know who they are, that's why I asked."
" Are you for real!!, you mean to tell me you lived in this city for four years and you don't know who the Beckett's are." Dennis eyes went wide with shock when I confirm I infact have never heard of them it went wider.
" I was busy and why do I have to know them, are they famous." I asked now curious.
" More like famous for being the richest family in the whole country. How on earth did you get yourself untangle with them." The look Dennis gave me was strange.
" I was only call to do a check up on they're pets nothing more." I explained waving my hand to get Dennis to stop looking at me the way he did.
" Just make sure you don't get on their bad side especially their daughter, she can be very scary." Dennis warned.
" The way you said it means you've been in contact with them." I said making him to flinch a little.
"I..I, of course I know them, they sometimes come over to the restaurant I work at." Dennis explained nervously and I was a little suspicious but I said nothing. It was true that Dennis was working at a five star restaurant as a chief so he must have seen them but something told me they was more.
" So how was work." I asked changing the topic to something else.
" Well that reminds me, I have nearly enough money to get my own restaurant." Dennis announced.
" Waw, good for you." I congratulate him knowing full well that this was had always been his dream of having his own restaurant.
" Thank you very much but what about you."
" Me?." I asked confused.
" Yes why don't you give your dream career a chance." Dennis said.
" Oh no, we're not talking about that." I dismissed immediately before taking my unfinished food and went to the kitchen to dispose of.
" Come on ken, you can fool me. I know you still want to join the military." Dennis called out, still seating on the couch while i was in the kitchen. I was glad he didn't following me or he would have seen the harden expression on my face.
It was a secret of mine that I have always wanted to be part of the military since I was a kid. I wanted to join not for my father or to continue the family legacy but for myself.
