Chapter 2 - 2. The Morning Visit-1

It was on the early hours of dawn when the mages of Kona appeared in our house. My father ran to meet them and also to inquire the reason for their sudden visit because we live just a little bit under the social class, we were not rich but we're not suffering either, we just have enough to get by.

"Good morning mages, to what do we owe this honor?" My father asked while trembling. Visits from the mages have two meanings, either good or bad. No one wants the bad ones.

They didn't answer him immediately, they just simply looked around the house, I was in a corner, behind my mother. I was an only child. When my eyes met with theirs, they showed a little bit of fear and for some disgust while some were just indifferent and unimpressed.

'I cannot believe that the most powerful sorceress is her ' one of them whispered but loud enough to be heard.

'Indeed, it must be a mistake because take a look at this place, it's repulsing and not fit for such high power ' the robust looking man replied.

The tallest mage among them cleared his throat and shot them a warning glare which made them swallow what other disapproving comments they had to make.

"Greetings to this household. We apologize for the sudden visit as for the reason is of upmost importance. We came here to announce the selection of the next great sorceress. Different mages from all of the land got signal that she's been born for over 10 years and now her magical powers are starting to awaken." With that he turned and faced me, my father followed his line of sight and he was heartbroken because he knew what was going to happen next.

My mother held me more tightly, I can feel her starting to tremble.

"There must be some sort of mistake, great mage. My little pumpkin doesn't have any magical powers. I'm the only magic user here. My wife was born without magic too"

The other mages frowned at my father for insinuating that they were wrong, if the circumstances were different, they would have punished him greatly. But that would be the fastest way possible to get on the wrong side of the great sorceress.

The great mage turned and replied to my father.

"We are not mistaken, all the other mages confirmed this. We all couldn't come but a few of us. We brought the seeing magic ball of the great sorceress that only responds to the touch of the sorceress"

He signaled one of the other mages, who carefully brought out the crystal ball, that once belonged to the deceased sorceress, who died while fighting for the land in a fierce battle which won the war for our kingdom but cost her life.

Placing the ball on the table, I was summoned. Looking at my mother's defeated expression she nudged me to go, struggling in order not to let her tears fall.

My father was really hoping that I would not pass this little test but something in me knew that I was going to pass it.

I knew that I was different but I didn't expect to be this different.

The crystal ball that was placed on its holder that was black had delicate purple and gold designs that was similar to vines, growing up from the buttom to the top where the crystal was placed. It was as if it was it's life force.

I took small steps, as slow as possible, even a snail would win me in a race. As I approached the ball that was dark and void, there was a little white glow which got stronger as I approached it closer. I felt a pull towards the crystal ball.

As I touched it, the glow changed from white to blue then it changed to blood red before shining a bright purple.

It was so bright that we had to squint our eyes and the light shined more and the whole house was lit up in less than a second.

During that the time of the glow, a powerful force took over me, my eyes turned pure white and was glowing and my head was flung backwards.

After what was lasted like five minutes. I removed my hands and opened my eyes.

The mages were in awe and shock, my parents were too but with fear for what lies ahead of me.

My dull eyes had changed color from what was dull grey to a mixture of purple and blue. The purple shade being the dominant color while the blue was the recessive one.

But no one noticed because it was still the early hours of the morning and you can't see it in the poorly lit room that had only a few candles and an oil lamp.

After everyone had recovered from the whole crystal ball glow and their eyes had adjusted.

"So, what does this mean?" My father asked in a spiritless tone.

"This means she's going to come with us to be trained in the ways of magic". He replied but paused to ask how old I was.

I just turned 12. The shock on the great mage's face was impossible to miss.

He then further explained that it was unusual.

He mentioned that the powers was supposed to come once I was 18. This changes a lot of things.

It means I can't come with them because I wasn't of legal age and I could be taken advantage of. So I had to stay with my parents until I turn 18 years, they would be coming once in a while to teach me the basics of magic.

This is all still too unreal to me. To think that I went to bed the previous night a non magic user to being the great sorceress is like from going to zero to a hundred in a split second.

I have always wished to be able to use magic but I never thought that I would be one of the greatest and strongest magic users.

After discussing with my parents the other details. They all bowed down to me. My parents followed suit, I didn't know what to do but to bow back to them.

After that, with the shoosh of their long dark robes they all disappeared without a trace.
