Chapter 11 - The Accident

Clark, Ruby's husband, looked at Mia calmly sitting in the back seat with his wife. Once in a while, Mia was willing to respond to their simple chat after she felt safe around them. Ruby would occasionally stroke Mia's hair to express how happy she was. The atmosphere in the car felt so comfortable because the husband and wife could also occasionally enjoy the beautiful voice that Mia sang when Clark played Mia's favorite song that Enzo had told them before leaving earlier.

"Your voice is so nice, Mia. Do you want to be a singer in the future? I'm sure many people will like you if they hear your voice," Clark informed her.

Mia's cheeks blushed when she heard the compliment. "Like me," she whispered to herself. Seeing Mia's reaction, Ruby smiled widely. She shifted her body to face the child before her hand rubbed Mia's cheek very gently.

"I also really like your voice. You can make people happy by singing, Mia," Ruby said softly. Mia stared at her for a long time after that. Her cheeks blushed as she seemed very embarrassed to hear the compliments.

"Thank-"

"WATCH OUT!" Ruby's scream successfully made Clark reflexively return his focus when he saw a truck from the opposite direction strangely speeding towards them. They didn't even have time to avoid it when the big truck hit their car. All Clark could do in that short time was protect himself while Ruby moved to hug Mia.

The car was thrown far away due to the hard collision, while the truck driver also did not move anymore after he was hitting Clark's car.

The situation around the scene was chaotic after the accident occurred. Blood was splattered everywhere. No one thought someone could survive the fatal accident while Mia was still conscious in the destroyed car, seeing everything with open eyes in the car that was now lying upside down in the middle of the highway.

The smell of gasoline that greeted her nose, the screams of people around her, plus the pungent smell of blood made Mia unable to focus on the situation around her. It took a long time before the child realized what had just happened to them when she realized that Ruby hugged her tightly with her eyes closed.

Clark, who was sitting in front, was no less tragic. His sturdy body was no longer moving because large shards of broken car glass pierced his chest.

Mia's breath hitched. She couldn't feel the pain in her body as she realized what situation they were in. Her hands tried to move Ruby's body, which had managed to protect her from serious injuries. Her voice faltered as Mia tried to call Ruby's name. Tears quickly began to fall from her eyes when she still didn't get any response from her.

"Aunt... aunty? Un... uncle?" she asked. She couldn't do anything because she was trapped while the rain pouring outside.

The sound of thunder rumbled, coinciding with the car door being forced open by a medical officer.

"Someone's still alive! She's trapped! Someone please help me get her out!" shouted the officer. Many hands reached out, trying to grab Mia after that, whose focus was still on the two bodies in front of her.

When Mia was successfully brought out, the child continued to ramble about the couple who had been declared dead at the scene. The rain that fell harder washed away the traces of blood that came from the car. Right in front of Mia's eyes, who recorded all the events down to the smallest detail.

At that moment, in Mia's eyes, the rain had washed away the person she loved in her world.

Enzo ran into the hospital lobby when he got news from his father's subordinate, who received a call from the hospital a few hours ago. Sweat soaked his forehead, mixed with rainwater because Enzo didn't have time to wait for his driver to cover him earlier. Enzo kept running until he finally arrived at his destination.

In the room, Mia was tied up by her hands and feet because she kept struggling while screaming. Her gaze was blank as she tried to find a figure that was no longer in the room.

"LET ME MEET AUNTY AND UNCLE! SOB, THEY TOOK MY AUNTY AND UNCLE! SOB, THEY WERE IN PAIN!"

Enzo froze when he heard Mia shout those words desperately. Her hair was limp with sweat and rainwater, and the doctor seemed to have difficulty injecting the child with a sedative because Mia had been moving brutally since earlier.

Mia kept screaming until her voice was hoarse. Enzo, who realized that his cousin was not okay, immediately ran to the girl. He pushed the doctor who was trying to inject Mia before he quickly untied the ties that had injured his sweet cousin's wrists and feet. Seeing the person Mia recognized for the first time made her hug Enzo, sobbing on the tall teenager's shoulder.

"Enzo... Sob, Aunty... Uncle... I want to meet them."

"It's okay, Mia. You go to sleep first, okay? Everything will be fine when you wake up. I'm with you now."

Mia began to stop crying when Enzo gently stroked her hair. Mia hugged the child's trembling body until she fell asleep on her own because of the exhaustion and shock she received.

"I suggest you get out before I get mad. You can talk about Mia's condition with my subordinate, who is on guard outside. I'm not sure I can stay calm if I have to talk to a doctor who dares to tie up his patient who is in shock after an accident like what you did earlier."

Enzo's face turned cold as his eyes stared at the group of doctors and nurses who were still standing in front of him. They nodded stiffly before finally leaving. Everyone knew they would get in trouble if they dared to offend Enzo, who was well-known in their country.

There was only one doctor who dared to talk to him before he left. The doctor bowed. "Sir, please forgive our rude actions earlier," he said before leaving with the others.

Enzo remained silent as the doctor and nurse finally left Mia's room. The teenager took a deep breath as his feet climbed Mia's hospital bed to adjust its position so that Mia, who was sleeping while occasionally talking in her sleep, could continue to hug him comfortably. While gently stroking Mia's hair, Enzo watched the rain from Mia's hospital room. His gaze was sad when he remembered that his parents had died in the accident.

Enzo, who was still a teenager at that time, realized that he would be required to act maturely after that incident. He now had to maintain his family's business while protecting Mia, who only had him in this world from that moment on.
