Ling is an innocent, determined,intelligent teenager from Shanghai who doesn't understand what is going on in her familysince her mother Sophia died away and Miss Wang joined the family and tries to understand it but doesn't. She began to act rebellious and insulted her step- mother, Madam Wang. Madm Wang is actually a malicious woman who is abusive and manipulative. Madam Wang thinks Ling is acting weird lately and tries to talk to her but she tells nothing to her. Madam Wang tried her best but to no avail.
Madam recently has High blood pressure, depression, and her health has been deteriorating. Her husband Chen is not caring about anything happening in the family doesn't believe or trust in her daughter and spends all his sabings lavishly on Mrs. Wang. Mrs. Wang couldn't take it any longer and held Ling's neck and beats her and she almost suffocate her to death.She beats Ling because she was becoming more uncontrollable and Ling told her that all the things happening in the family is Wang's fault and stands on her father's side which infuriated Mrs. Wang more and she stomped away angrily.
